Experimental games ARE usually niche. Experimental games are VERY risky and far less likely to be backed by Xbox.

Man, I missed the Xbox 360 times that generation was great. PlayStation had great games Xbox and Nintendo as well.

when Xbox started going exceedingly woke, I canceled my game pass subscription. Not that I have anything against diverse characters, it's the woke prioritising against a good story. Anyway, I wishlisted my most played games on GOG and Steam and was able to buy all of them for LESS then I was paying for game pass ultimate AND the ones I bought on GOG are DRM free so I know they will continue to work even if their publishers go down. I hope Xbox can reinvent themselves but until then I will stick to pc gaming.

It's like any other big company. They buy tons of assets to screw/beat competitors. They try to sell the product, it doesn't do to good. Since their heart wasn't really in it in the first place and it not making money, they close it. I already had this fear when Xbox started buying studios.

I think if jobs want us to give them a 2 weeks' notice they should give us a two week's notice before firing us. Telling someone "oh you have no way to make money now" in an email is outrageous.

Oh, it is making sense. MS is doing what they are in business to do which is increase revenue, and it seems the only way to do this is to put their games on as many platforms as possible which is good for all gamers, and if that means burying the Xbox brand, well, it seems, so be it. The sun will come up no matter what they plan to do with Xbox.

Games not on gamepass sell significantly better than games on it.

I'm sorry but Gamepass is a big problem here. The reason Xbox is pivoting and focusing on the big AAA releases is because GP subscriptions are slowing to a halt so no new money is coming from that. This means that every time a game like HiFi Rush comes out it doesn't matter how many people play it because no one is buying it. This is what I always knew would happen, this is why many developers hate Game pass. Your games don't make money and that puts a big target on your studio's back. I understand it's great for the consumer but at this point it's not worth it. Who cares about saving money on games if it means losing the team's that make them?

Well, when you look at the numbers what with the overhead being higher than the profit margin necessary to sustain the viability of the studios, then duh. The rationale for shutting down non profitable development studios makes absolutely perfect sense.

WTF? How does it make business sense to close a studio that makes brilliant games?

Great video, but what KZreadrs, gamers sharing their opinion fail to provide a perspective from a business management view. The items were touched upon in this video, it should have been a topic to dissect more into. I studied business management, I understand how shifting resources even after a hit makes sense to me.

As consoles get bigger and better games are going to push the limits and take longer to make or have to hire more people which pushes the development costs

They took in a ton of the devs into other jobs. Also if people didn’t see Arkane going down they weee blind, dishonored while loved didn’t sell well and niether did prey. Redfall was the nail in the coffin.

I still remember the Microsoft 2008 E3 press conference, where they started by saying that all the games that will be announced today are games that will be released this year.

Prey was a masterpiece, and Dishonored was one of the best series in the stealth genre. I don't get why they couldn't have granted the studio independence instead of shuttering it.

I'm still going to keep playing my XSX, along with my 360 and OG Xbox backlog of games. Same with Playstation and Switch. But moving forward, I'm leaning towards going strictly PC/Steam Deck. Using my Switch for Nintendo Exclusives.

Prey was awesome, dunno why they'd do the studio like that?

Always been an xbox guy since i was a kid…… ive been thinking about getting a PS5 for over a year now for various reasons. Im almost certain my XBOX series X will be my last xbox console, and thats sad to say.

Starfield wasn't bad, but when I think the best thing about it was the musical digital artbook, you know it could have been better. We have to just wait a few days more and see what the full story is. We'll see. Right off the bat, it looks like doom and gloom, but ... we'll see.

Ray, just recently listening to you and some other podcasts. I’ve heard that they’ve kept a bunch of talented employees and just move them to other studios. Is there a possibility that they may still work on hi-fi rush or do a sequel for it or do something for Redfall. I think red fall is pretty much done. I’m wondering if the reason they closed the studio so they didn’t have to refund because in a lot of countries if you don’t do the DLC you have to refund the person for the video game. This is their way out saying that the studio shut down so they don’t have to refund the people that bought deluxe packages that included the next DLC for free.

I agree. I wouldn't blame Game Pass either. It just seems that certain games struggle with sales because they're too niche. Alan Wake 2 is nowhere to be found on any subscription service and it's struggling too, if the reports are to be believed.

1:42 Xbox dont have exclusive games. NO one and I mean no one can name at least one Xbox Exclusive game made in the last 10+ years. Edit: Hi-Fi Rush was not an Xbox Exclusive. It was also released on PC and any other devices you can play GP games on.

I find it hilarious that what was left of Tango was pushing for multiplatform and it still didn't survive these closings! If we're talking about saving money isn't it more expensive to develop for multiple platforms instead of one. Look at Nintendo!

Since the moment gamepass got announced, i knew immediately it was a ticking time bomb. As consumer friendly as it is, i always say it as something that would negatively impact the gaming industry. Soley due to the fact the model itself did not seem sustainable, i only saw it as something that would slowly try to kill its competition, with the dev teams behind it being the ones taking a hit. Hi-fi rush soley didn't sell well due to it being on gamepass and no marketing, as it released the day it was announced.

I hope that we get an xbox handheld, we already have the psp and psvita, where the xbox handheld at?

I never liked hi fi rush or ghost wire but I really like Evil within games so it's a sad time

Buying developers can be a good thing. But if Microsoft starts micro managing then, they'll just suck out all inspiration and motivation. That would back fire.

Ghost Wire Tokyo is one of my favorite games, i didnt think i was gonna like it, but i loved it but like you, i didnt play it till the DLC came out either but i played it on my PS5 and my Xbox and i loved it. So thats disappointing, i feel they could of came out with a sequel or even a prequel, id of liked to experience the game as K and what he did when he was alive.

The gaming industry has been doing that to people's job's for year's. My father and I used to have our own trucking company that delivered physical copies of videogame's to store's. We no longer have that contract.....

To be fair all the faction quests in star field were 10/10 but the main game story was 6/10 the sheer fact they force you to new game plus to be able to get the best choices the ship building is great the lives worlds they built were well done but so few settled planets with giant cities and no mechs? I do wish the faction main stories were a lot longer though but most were about 8 hours a piece give or take.🤘🏻🤘🏻

Remember buying Xbox 1 and how bad an update from 360 it was, I was so deluded. I now have an Xbox series x basically because of the hardware and a load of 360 games with backwards compatibility. This machine is still not a 100% with all 360 compatible games so I bought a slim 360 and now realise why I fell in love with Xbox. This machine is pushing games to max with Xbox only exclusives, and doing a great job of all the rest. Truth is we have been told for years of all this crap about Xbox going to do this and that and reality is they sit back and let PlayStation do what they want. When I saw that all these studio's were getting bought up I thought yeh lets take the fight to Sony. But sadly Xbox don't have a clue so I am sticking to pc as my series x game pass is same shit every time I look and my 360 kick's ass.

The Initiative and Ninja Theory are next and I am very worried for Obsidian.

I enjoyed Redfall, yes it did have a lot of issues at launch but after a few patches it was miles better,. A good solid 7/10 from me just not the great game we were expecting which i guess is a recurring issue with big Xbox releases.

I never understood the console wars. Play on the one that has your games or buy both I started gaming in the 70’s in arcades, then Pong, etc Then I grew up and stopped playing. Got back into in the 90’s and now I am almost 10 years in playing Destiny exclusively after my COD days Gamers have power in their spending but was never really used to make the industry better as gaming is a whole, one industry, and should be viewed as such. PAX used to be filled with Devs, free merch and excitement, now it is just a ghost of what it used to be for many years. That told me long ago that the industry was in trouble, even though the news was saying differently… I hope things improve as gaming is more than just a fun pass time, it has become part of our culture

Nothing these days catches my eye and because of that I’m just happy to wait to play it on gamepass. There’s no real games I used to look forward to like Fable, Banjo Kazooie, Bioshock, Mafia etc that I would pre order regardless arriving on any platform. Hell is still miss the simple things like console UI features, Avatar integration and just sheer innovation and interesting things. It also sucks that the XBLA store no longer exists thus all games are just shoved into a single storefront.

assassin‘s Creed codename Red is going to be a great game to play I hope Xbox figures out some good way to come back before the game releases.

I havent played my Xbox or Ps5 in months cause Quest3 has taken over my gaming time.

I think the last game in gonna play on Xbox (and it’s not even an exclusive) it’s the Elden ring DLC, and only because my save it’s on the console. After that I think pc it’s the way to go

Those old games are stopping games from pushing limits. Studios don't seem to want to.

I think Fable is going to bomb also I mean it will sell several million copies to the hard-core fans, but that won't be enough to cover the cost of a 5 year AAA development program. I'm certainly not interested in it.

The problem is that despite these huge teams focused on developing games, so many new games release with bugs and glitches, and there's no excuse for it. Devs have become so lazy these days, and it shows because of the lack of QA before release. We didn't have this problem ten years ago (not to this extent, anyway). That's why I'd rather play an older game that works, rather than a game that's been out for less than a year that's practically unplayable (I'm looking at you, Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

They messed up. I Love Xbox. Those developers should get together and create and new brand name. I love Xbox but they are moving everything to PC and handheld, I think. Make "PC Ready?"

I really think Microsoft needs to launch all their games as multiplatform at launch and make them free on game pass at launch they can charge on the other platforms. I just don't think the games are getting the sales needed since they are on gamepass people just decide not to buy them. I wouldn't even mind if after a few months they take the games off game pass so they could make some sales off of the games. Maybe they should rotate games in and out of game pass to make more sales. Clearly the current model isn't working for them if they are having to close down studios they recently bought. What the hell is the point of buying them if you're just going to shut them down.

They have that. It's called Game Pass.

You can't trust big companies. I think developers need to keep their studios independent as best as they can. Selling their studios to publishers will eat up their freedom to make unique games. But I suppose this is easier said then done.

Xbox might as well come out with an upgradable pc that doesn't require proprietary hardware like their storage on the Series X.

I don't care much as i play on PC, but i had Game Pass Ultimate for years. PC gamers also gets most Sony games. Next port to be revealed this month is GOW Ragnarok.

Anything related to the entertainment industry is risky. Actors/Actresses need people’s attention span and time to watch their films. Game developers need people’s attention span and time play their games. There is only so much time people have to watch all these films and play all these games. To make matters worse for the entertainment industry, there are enough games and movies to occupy people’s attention even if they were to watch movies or play games 24/7. Actors/Actresses and game developers are counting on people to ignore everything else that has already been released, and focus on paying for whatever is upcoming. Everyone needs a backup plan (multiple skills, rainy day fund, etc) for those times when they lose their jobs….but this is especially true for anyone making their living off of entertaining people.

The topic is that we should be warn about the world of Xbox is that my Xbox died out after 5 months of purchase it won’t even get any juice the Xbox button won’t even turn on

My theory: Only a hunch, but maybe this was their plan. They probably just wanted the bigger IPS, and they didn't really care about the other games made from most of the other studios. These Developers deserve to be their own where their games can't be hounded or their studios won't be shutdown. At least they weren't a target when they were with Sony...

We need to make more short single player experiences. Seems like the industry is solely focused on big budget AAA games.

I came back to Xbox because of Starfield. I was not disappointed. I genuinely like it flaws and all! I love my X, playing classics on it is awesome! No regrets for missing out on these mind you. But the unending exclusivity trend will bring down the consoles...

Problem is as consoles get bigger and better games take a lot longer to make test and everything that drives the cost up in development... The reason Nintendo is staying afloat is because that doesn't apply they can make games faster and probably with less people nobody has patience either they want great games right now and when they aren't done or are shit they complain

Looks like Microsoft should've just let it all burn which if zenimax goes so does Bethesda then that would be a real headliner they wouldn't know how to run a business

Saying hi-fi Rush was out, selling for spoken that’s not very high metrics to beat

I was hoping for a new sequel of evil within 3,but with the shut down of tango game studio, it's no more ,there won't be an evil within sequel again

Im an oldskool gamer (48). Games where magic and yes it was about making money wich is fine. But games are now taken over by investors who coudnt care less about the magic of games.
