The Zimbabwe side not only has the most beautiful view, but there are many natural attractions as well along the Zambezi River - Mana Pools, Matusadona National Park and Lake Kariba. 100 km away from the Victoria Falls is Hwange National Park, a park with the largest variety of big land mammals in the world. Much of nature in Zimbabwe is generally untouched and uncrowded. There are lots of attractions around the country like the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Eastern Highlands, Vumba and Nyanga Mountains, Matopo Hills and Khami Ruins. The problem in Zimbabwe is poor marketing or lack of (People just don't understand tourism & marketing). South African tourist agents promote the Victoria Falls more than Zimbabwe and they often route visitors from South Africa to the Falls. Zimbabwe doesn't deserve to have these wonderful attractions honestly speaking. I am sure Zambia and South Africa would make much better use of them. I give props to Zambia for patriotism and love for their country if you consider the fact that Zimbabweans have been chasing away visitors over the past two decades. When an American celebrity announces that they are going to Zimbabwe for vacation, they would flood social media with negative comments. Sad. They don't realize that there are poor vendors in the streets who make a living from tourism, selling local crafts, souvenirs and food. People can also make money as freelance tour guides and escorts. Sadly Zimbabwe is behind.

Why have they not changed the name to its original African name?? They should! None of these were discovered as they were never lost. The African people knew about it. Just like Machu Picchu always existed and was known to the natives who pointed it out to Bingham. Or Vasco De Gama, who received the help of Gujarati sailors to reach India that were trading with the Africans. Or Columbus "discovering" America. He was trying to reach India for spices and decided to go in the opposite direction from the Portuguese. They knew the world was not a flat. Besides the Vikings had already reached the Americas long before. I admire Dr Livingston for exposing the brutality of Slavery but he didn't 'discover' Victoria Falls. It needs to revert back to its original African name.

It's Mosi oa tunya (the smoke that thunders) it's even written at the entrance. The Vic Falls thing is probably for marketing and tourism.

@xa589 Wow! Why woukd you say that? Please no. July is the worst time to visit Vic Falls because its the dry season. Meaning the water levels are low at the lowest point

Actually I've only been there one time but from the research I've down I understand the best time is from February to May, directly after the summer rains, because then you'll see a lot of water flowing down the falls, Thank you for watching and commenting, enjoy your trip to the Falls

it is called that because of the dangerous currents and undertows present in the water and the risk of falling over the edge of the waterfall. Thank you for watching and commenting.

This is during the low level zambezi river. This is a trickle compared to a full zambezi falling. This is the most underwhelming time to view the falls!
