Which country owns the Victoria Falls? We travelled to Zambia. This is what it looks like.

In this video, I compare the two sides of Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. I visited both the Zimbabwean and Zambian sides of the falls, and I share my thoughts on which side I think is better.

The Falls are 1.7km. Zambia has 1.2km and Zimbabwe 500m, that's a fact. This information is available right at the information desk on the Zambian side. Also on the Zambian side you can experience the Devil's and Angel's Pool. You can actually swim at edge of the Falls. Zambian side has by far the best experience.

For being very objective, I’ll subscribe to your channel. I first saw the falls from your Zim & then saw it from our Zambian side later. Both sides are great & have their advantages & one needs to see them from both sides to really appreciate them. If one was to claim being the owner, Zambia would claim it because we have the source of the Zambezi. But there’s no need for claim of ownership. Both Zambia & Zimbabwe are sister countries & thus both own the falls for the enjoyment of everyone. You’ll have more foreigners on the Zim side because the Zim tourism has been a well established industry for a long time. But it’s good that more locals including children are now being exposed to tour the Vic falls. Next time, plse, visit the boiling pot too.

If you are not Tonga, your opinion is really irrelevant, whether you are Zambian or Zimbabwean. The point is that the Tonga on both sides of the river get to decide the matter. The falls are in Tonga land. The Tonga name for the falls is Shungu Namutitima; the name Zambezi is a Portuguese contraction of the Tonga name for the river "Kasamba bezi". Fully 95% of the Tonga are in Zambia. We do not want to be divided, and if forced to choose, we are going to Zambia together with Mana Pool, the Kariba Dam, the falls, and possibly Hwange in Zimbabwe.

The falls are twice as long on the Zimbabwe side, an issue that could be easily rectified with a few stick of dynamite, if we Zambians needed even more water than we already have too much of. You must understand why these Zimbos are so possessive. The have literally nothing else. Zambia has 500+ waterfalls, this just happens to be one of them. Unfortunately for the Shona and Ndebele spurring this divisive debate; the Tonga on both sides of the river get to decide the matter. The falls are in Tonga land. The Tonga name for the falls is Shungu Namutitima; the name Zambezi is a Portuguese contraction of the Tonga name for the river "Kasamba bezi". Fully 95% of the Tonga are in Zambia. People forget in Zambia there is no place called Victoria Falls. In Zambia, there is a place called Livingstone. Victoria Falls is a town in Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe made this place popular for obvious reasons. This whole place became known as the Victoria Falls because the falls are best seen from Victoria Falls. The Zambian side is called Livingstone. The Zimbabwean side is Victoria Falls. But if someone from lusaka is going to Livingstone, they say, I am going to Victoria Falls, and they never say I am going to Livingstone. It’s because it’s Zimbabwe that made this place popular, developed the more appealing Zimside. Zambia is trying to catch up when Zimbabwe is struggling economically, but that won’t happen because the falls can’t be changed. The physical falls are on both countries but you see 1.2km from Zimbabwe and only 4-500m from Zambia. During the dry season, it becomes completely dry on the Zambian side. You see more foreigners on the Zimbabwean side because the foreigners want the best.

Are you serious? The town in Zim got its name from the falls., not the other way round. The town in Zambia got its name from David Livingstone. Don’t forget that the falls existed before both towns got their white people names and the local people called it the Mosi-o tunya.

You can go and jump into the gorge, instead of trying to steal something that does not belong to you. Yes, you would cite English names, because without the English no part of the falls would be in Zimbabwe. I am not sure why you Shona are making so much noise over something that is not yours. Sorry to disappoint you but the place became known as Victoria falls because one English man who had no business makeni g the falls decided to name it after the then Queen of England. David Livingstone named it VIC falls . Not because it was best seen from Vic falls. And the locals were already calling it Mosi-oa- tunya. Livingstone is the City in Zambia where you find Vic falls.

I discovered that most people who think the falls are owned by Zimbabwe are people that have not even been to the falls. Because any one who has been there realises that they are standing on the edge of the gorge which is the Zim side, and they are looking at that river as it drops across the gorge on the Zambian . It’s as easy as watching your neighbour’s house from across the street.

Zambian side is great during peak season. If you come during the low season or dry season you will only be looking at a rock face. The Zim side has the main falls so there is always plenty of water. Zim also has a bigger share. I heard you say that its split in half but if you google you will learn that Zim has 2 thirds of the falls and a more lushy rainforest. Zambia akso has devil's pool for the daredevils.

Really wow that would be frustrating to come all the way to the falls just to see a dry rock . We were so lucky then . And yes you are right google says zim has 2/3 of the falls’s view.

The river starts in Zambia, flows in Zambia for most its course. At the falls, the people on both sides are Tonga. Fully 95% of the Tonga live in Zambia, and are Zambians. I say this as a Tonga myself. The Shona and the Ndebele are not involved in this discussion. We Tonga are Zambian. You are benefitting from the English drawing the border in the wrong place. If we Tonga are asked to choose, we are going to Zambia where all of us are, and we are taking the land from Mana Pools to Botswana with us, Kariba Dam and the Falls included. The president of Zambia is a Tonga, meanwhile in Zimbabwe, you are trying to suppress the Tonga language

Even kids know the falls are owned by both countries. Doesn't matter which side has beautiful. The falls remains the falls. Appreciate it instead of childish bickering. We will die and the falls will remain

Does it matter really? Both countries share the falls. This creates unnecessary divisions. After all we are one people. Before during apartheid and colonial days we were once one country. It’s not necessary dividing ourselves as Africans.

Obviously Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 is the top beneficiary of the Victoria Falls because you see it way better from Zimbabwe. Go ask the colonialists in London why they chose to establish a bigger tourism sector on the Zimbabwe side. Zambia is just a small brother of Zimbabwe.

The people on both sides of the falls are Tonga. The Tonga have lived in the area for 1600 years. Since 95% of the Tonga live in Zambia, while 5% live in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana, the Falls are rightly Zambian, on a Zambian river, which starts in Zambia, flows in Zambia for most of its course, and from which Zambia obtains its name. The river itself gets its name from the Tonga who to this day call it Kasambambezi. I can speak conclusively on this matter, because I myself am a Tonga. You Shona who are starting these useless debates have no stake in this fight. You are coming all the way from Mutare and Masvingo to try and inject anarchy and confusion into a matter that concerns you only because the English drew the border in the wrong place to start with. Please keep in your waterless part of the country of Zimbabwe. The falls belong to Zambia together with 500 other waterfalls in the country
