Not being aware of the dissimilarities of Turkish and Arabic is not prejudice. 99% of people don’t know a lot about Turkey, but that doesn’t make 99% of people prejudice, it just means they are uneducated on the matter.

I am fluent both in French and Turkish and I can confirm that it is French (not Turkish) that has more consonants similar to those in Arabic. For instance, there is no /tʃ/ (ch) sound neither in Arabic nor in French that is pronounced in the palatal place of articulation etc.

I love how they say Turkish and Arabic sound similar although they do not at all. They are very different languages. In my opinion Japanese sounds more similar to Turkish since Turkish is a middle Asian language. Yes there are many borrowed words from Arabic and French but the grammar and pronunciation are completely unrelated. People assume that nations living near would speak a similar language understandably. Still, I am impressed that they know the capital city lol

Yeah agree but as Arab we can understand a lot of Turkish words although as you said they are different grammatically. For me I found Turkish easy I actually speak and understand Turkish very well more than English which I studied almost whole my life.

Yeah we also have many french word but we dont sound french either because we have turkish accent when pronouncing french and arabic words :)

I don't know how they find Turkish and Arabic similar? Even the Arabic loanwords in Turkish are pronounced completely different. Turkish has 8 vowels and Arabic has only 3 short and 3 long vowels. Not even close

I am able to differanciate even Portugeese /Spanish / Italian/ French even tho all of them are latin languages. I assume if the interview was not about Turkish/Turkiye and you played the voice record to ask their opinion about the language and ask them for guessing which language it is, they would never say it sounds Arabic. To me Spanish sounds more Arabic than Turkish does.

I'm a native Spanish speaker I've never thought of that before. But, it kind of makes sense since Spanish have a strong arabic influence mostly in vocabulary. For example the word "alcántara" comes from Arabic (see the beginning syllable al-)

They are nothing like Arabs (and also you need to stop associating Arabs with something bad, like even if they had things in common, it wouldn’t be bad) but like I said they don’t. Also the Latin alphabet suits the Turkish language a lot better. I watched a video where they said that Turkish has like 9 vowels and Arabic script only has three short and three long vowels, so obviously it’s not good for representing their sounds. And I think even the fact that they have nine vowels makes the language beautiful. Vowels are the key for a beautiful language in my opinion. Man your comment is just so ignorant and wrong. Turks don’t even wear a turban hahahah like WTF where did you even get that from? And Camels? Are you for real? I went on vacation to both Greece and Turkey and there wasn’t a big difference between the two countries at all (I‘m sure this will be hard to comprehend for you, but please take your time). I learned some turkish words from watching dramas xd like (so sorry for bad spelling) "emet", "gunayden", "merhaba" and they all say "ala ala ala" when something bother them, I guess. Great video as usual :)

There is a desert in Turkey: Karapinar Colu, Konya. It is touristic location and on the route of Silk Road. There are camels in Turkey, yörüks were using camels in Toros and Anatolia. Since they were identified as Turks during Ottoman times, turks using camels is not an unordinary thing (search Sarikeceli Yoruks in Karaman). Yes, we are not Arabs and we pick anatolia/west asia for our destination because it highly resembles central & east Asia steppes and mountains (not deserts :) )

Let's be honest, Turkish sounds nothing like Arabic. It has many Arabic loanwords but even those are Turkified and spoken with a clear Turkish accent but other than that it has no connection with it. I think the only reason why they say it sounds Arabic is that Turkey is a majority Muslim country so they stereotypically call it Arabic without actually knowing anything about the language. Funny enough, French has more sounds that use the throat. :=)

Absolutely awesome comment. Turkish took words from many languages, but adapted it to its own region. I don't think Turkish and Arabic are alike because Turks never speak from their throats. Probably french is more like arabic :D We know, of course, that the reason they answered like that was political.

You say that like using “throat sounds” is a bad thing. Almost every Turkic language uses some of those “throat sounds” including your neighbor brothers. Also, why does everyone think sounding Arabic means having throat sounds and vice versa? There’s a huge variety of languages that have sounds produced in the back of the mouth or in the throat.

Reducing Arabic to “throat sounds” is ignorant. Nobody in the video mentioned anything related with the throat, nor did they express a negative opinion of Turkish; for some people, however, “sounds like Arabic” is already an insult (and, apparently, it means “spoken with the throat”). I doubt you can establish as a fact that French sounds closer to Arabic, just because it has one or two sounds in common with Arabic that Istanbul Turkish no longer has. You could say the opposite too: Turkish has an h like Arabic which French doesn’t pronounce. The fact is you attach a stigma to some particular sounds, because they’re considered rural or vulgar in Turkey, and because they remind you of Arabic which you don’t like. You completely disregard every other aspect of pronunciation anyway, and reduce it to gutturals.

Not gonna lie ,Im so disappointed . People also keep saying that it sounds like arabic just because of the religion i guess. It cant be because of the common words because turkish also has as many common words with french as with arabic . So turkish would be also similar to french in this case ( but it is not similar at all because we pronounce them with turkish accent ) . Every person speaks english and pronounce english words but almost Noone sounds like any native english. Because they pronounce the words with their own accent. So when we turkish people pronounce an arabic word . We will again sound like turkish. A person with a little bit knowledge would know that turkish is an asian language but not from middle asia ( at least not from the part that is close to arabic countries ) 👀 people usually get surprised when we say '' turkish is more like korean and japenese '' and they usually dont accept that because they insist that it is closer to arabic language. No offense , I just want people to put their prejudices aside and make their comments in a logical way. Also it is sad that people seem to think of turkish as a language that has no importance. It is ridiculous that people thinks Turkish sounds like Arabic.I personally only have knowledge about on Turkish and English. Despite that,I can recognize Spanish,German,French,Arabic, even Portuguese or a Slavic language.People who comments in this way are whether does not care about listening or they have no any information about languages,literally "uneducated" in polite words.

Que vous le vouliez ou non la Turquie sera toujours assimilée à un pays du Moyen-Orient. Dans la tête des gens, les Turcs sont censés parler arabe. Bien évidemment que la réalité est totalement différente. La langue arabe est diamétralement opposée à la langue turque et les Turcs ne sont pas arabes. C'est comme dire que le français ressemble au danois. Je remarque aussi que les Français et plus globalement les Européens ne connaissent pas grand chose de la Turquie et encore moins de la culture et de la langue.

That's embarassing for them that they don't know anything about people close to them geographically and act arrogant. Europeans need to get better education because this is shameful. Spaniards, French, Norwegian and Russians arent the same just like how Arabs, Turks, Iranians etc arent the same.. at all.

As a Turk, I know more or less about a random country in the middle of Africa. This is respect for nations. I know about the history of all the countries in the years when it was so easy to learn thanks to social media. I hate the French without being racist, but I know something about them too. For example, I know something about your iron heap, which looks like nothing and has no historical significance. Turkey is a country in the cradle of human history in Mesopatamia. If you're going to learn world history, you have to look at Turkey. but people know what the biased and stupid media shows. like people who think of desert and camel when you think of this Turkey. however, the number of countries without deserts is very few in the world and Turkey is one of them. In summary, their ignorance is their own problem and ignorance.

Orta Doğu ülkesi olmak veya olmamak önemli değil. Türklerin Arapça konuşması gerektiğini düşünmek veya Araplara benzetmek sizin cahilliğinizle alakalı bunu genellemek yanlış.İnsanların Fransızların Almanca konuşmasını düşünmesiyle eş değer bir cahillik.

Ils relèvent pas pour les comparaisons avec les autres langues mais être associés à l'arabe ça leur fait péter un cable mdr. On va pas rappeler le pourcentage de mots arabes dans leur langue.

@@mahzarbey5074 Sen ne saçmalıyorsun? Tamam arapça kelimeler var ama Bu Türkçeyi aşağılama nereden geliyor ? 6000 küsür arapça kelime var gerisi %89 Türkçe kelimelerden oluşuyor . Allah Yani Vallah kelimelerinin japoncadan geldiğini düşünecek kadar aptal olmandan belliydi .

En fait en regardant tout les vidéos en français sur la Turquie, j'aimerais fort faire une échange avec un.e francophone qui voudrait apprendre le turc. Je ne savais pas qu'il existe des français qui trouve le turc intéressant 😅😅

As a Bulgarian who has been learning Turkish language, listening to Turkish music and watching Turkish series for years I'm impressed by the knowledge that French people have about Turkey. I'm wondering what they know about Bulgaria. 😅 The guy at 8:32 who said Turkish sounds like Bulgarian surprised me. I'm curious why he thinks so. We use a lot of Turkish words in Bulgarian but our languages are from different language families. It was an interesting point of view tho. In fact I have heard other people say that Bulgarian and Turkish sound similar but I keep getting surprised. 😅😅 I also don't think that Turkish resembles so much Arabic because even tho there are a lot of Persian and Arabic words in Turkish, the pronunciation is completely different. There are no throat sounds in Turkish. But ALRIGHT, 9:01. It sounds like Greek???? The most common sounds in Turkish are "c, ç, ş, ı" pronounced as j/dzh, ch, sh, â. These sounds literally don't exist in Greek. (I have been learning Greek for years as well. I hear Greek and Turkish on a daily basis.) Most Greeks can't even pronounce them. 🤔 (The comparison with German makes more sense. There are a lot of "ö, ü" sounds in both languages.) I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I don't expect everyone to be familiar with the languages I like or to be interested in them! No offence. I'm just commenting on their reactions/opinions. ✌🏻

Il me semble qu'il y a quelques mots d'origine turque dans la langue française. Divan sorbet ou laiton. La réciproque est également vraie. Il y a beaucoup de mots français dans la langue turque

For me as a Turk French sound like Arabic. They both using their throat. Which is i am not used to. We don't use our throat when we speak Turkish.

Le nom de la pizza turque est Pide.

The French saying Turkish is a rough sounding language is mad wild to me. We have zero guttural, and only few nasal sounds, when French language is all about them. 😄

Trop de mots français sont entrés en Turquie en turc, je pense que c'est à cause de Soliman le Magnifique, car il était en bons termes avec le roi de France. Jusqu'à ce que le royaume de France soit détruit en 1793, l'État européen avec lequel l'Empire ottoman était le meilleur était la France, mais quand la révolution française est arrivée, le roi a été pendu, puis nous sommes devenus ennemis car les relations entre tous les rois de france et l'état ottoman étaient très bonnes

Day 27 Trying to learn French

Salut d'Istanbul! J'ai aussi commencé à apprendre le français il y a 6-7 mois. Il y a beaucoup de mots en commun en turc et en français. Je crois que les gens qui disent que le turc et l'arabe sont similaires sont vraiment confus :D Franchement, la prononciation de l'arabe est plus proche du français que du turc. Pour moi, toutes les langues sont belles et intéressants. Merci pour vos vidéos et vos efforts pour les apprenants de français.

Un des plus grand marché du monde a istanbul, la mosquée blue, les kilims fantastique, une partie en Europe, l'autre en Asie central, En 1976 je suis allé en autobus de Grèce a travers la Turquie, l'Iran, l'Afghanistan, Pakistan jusqu'à Kashmir. C'était un voyage très intéressant. En revenant j'ai habité un a tehran. I was staying in Lugano, Switzerland at the time when the Swiss Italian who's I was staying with (his wife and son also) told me Europe was cool, but if I really wanted to see different cultures I should go east towards Asia or south toward Africa. He'd met his American wife in Morocco. To get to Greece I took a boat from Brindisi, Italy to Athens. Years later I would make it to 6 African countries. One of the reasons I wanted to learn French was to speak with the French speaking diaspora Africain a travers le monde. Alors, maintenant je fais une heure de français par semaine avec un haitien et une heure avec une guadalupiene.

Turkish is not very similar to Arabic. It is more like Russian and Ukrainian languages. French is completely like arabic
