Yes, there is life after retirement no matter what your age! If you have been wondering what to do in retirement this video will be a help for you. I highlight some of my own post-retirement activities including getting up in a timely manner each day, making my bed, exercising and enjoying life, work and my family.
My name is Amelia and I want to inspire you to reinvent yourself in order to live a life of joy, fulfillment and purpose. Hi. I just found your channel and am intrigued. I retired at age 66 (in 2019). I had a hard time adjusting because I felt guilty about not working when I knew I was still physically able. But mentally, I had had enough of the corporate world. I really missed the daily camaraderie with coworkers. I’ve settled into a routine kind of like yours. Wake up early (5:30-6:00 usually), breakfast, read my Bible and a daily devotional, watch some KZread videos, get dressed, do an exercise video. Then I run any errands. Next is lunchtime, then some housework, sewing or crocheting, then I walk on my treadmill while I watch an episode of a show on tv. I waste a lot of time looking at KZread, but I love some of the channels I’ve found and have learned so much. It’s kind of like mini seminars with some of them. Next comes dinner. I only cook for myself; my husband cooks his own food. He likes it that way! I have GERD so we can’t eat the same foods. We just started going to church, so I hope to eventually get involved with their programs as I feel more a part of the congregation. We are both very introverted, so it takes a while to feel comfortable around new people. I’m really looking forward to seeing more on your channel!

For this reason, It's important to have a solid support structure (financial consultant) to guide you through especially in asset picking. I operate with (REGINA LOUISE COLLARO) an investment advisor who partners with a licensed wealth management firm. For the record, the experience has been the best for my finance. She is quite popular for her services so you might have heard of her. I retired a few months ago and still find there is NOT enough availble hours in a day for the tasks I need to do. Seriously, not enough availble hours each day. For example this AM: Woke up at 7:30 AM, had small 1st breakfast, went into external shop, changed engine oil in lawn mower, cleaned its underside deck, came inside house and made fresh coffee for my wife (who wakes up at 9:30 AM), had my 2nd breakfast, visited the neighbour (to meet his grass cutting contractor - to hire him to cut our summer time lawn when we are too busy), came in at 11:15 AM, had a nap until 12:00, woke up and lunch was ready (wife made it for exchange of morning's fresh coffee), go hardware store shopping, came back home and visited a different place at 3:15 PM to buy some steel pipes, had dinner at 6:00 PM, then a little walk around the city block. Not enough time to change winter-summer tires on our vehicle and no availble time to fill in lawn Divots / Grass seed either. Again, I ran out of avilble time (while retired). I often tell my wife that even retired, my days are too busy. Cannot wait for summer vacation time.... As stated to many folks, we do NOT really retire. We simply work (enjoy) many other things instead....

The game changer for me is to go to bed when I first feel sleepy. And right now that seems to be about 8:45. Yes, I know that’s early! But I have found if I push myself to stay up later then I get a second wind and I do not sleep well that night. The benefit is that I wake up refreshed, early. This time is for whatever I want or need to do. It has truly been a game changer dealing with my insomnia and feeling bad the next day due to the lack of sleep.

I am new to your site. Glad I found you. I am a retired nurse (retired almost 8 yrs ago...I am 72 years old). My husband I were quite active (loved to travel...and go out to dinner with friends...active in our church...I taught a Bible study for women in our local jail along with 2other ladies... loved it... used to horseback ride). COVID kind of brought things to a screeching halt. Then my husband hacks a stroke in August. He had complications because of several very bad med reactions. He is finally doing much better. My morning routine revolves around him and our 8 yr old mini Schnauzer. I do have a devotional time...usually at least five days a week. I read a short devotional, have prayer time, either use a study book or guide. I have been writing the New Testament which I love doing, but since he has been sick I haven’t done much. I too do not like housekeeping, but I do like a neat home. I do a little each day. I love cardmaking and all kinds of needlework. And I love to read. I watch more TV than I should because of doing my cross stitching. Sorry to have rattled on. Looking forward to being a part of your journey!

One of the things that I find time for now is helping people who have little if no support... not necessarily financial...mostly emotional and spiritual support. Friendship. When our kids were young all of our time was tied up with them and their activities. And we loved it. Now our kids and grandkids don’t live close so we have extra time. (And yes we miss them terribly, but we don’t want to despair when there are so many things to do.) We love taking day trips (our big trips are to see family.) Our local community college and library offer a variety of programs...most are free or very low cost. We have met so many new friends. In addition to our church activities, I participate in CBS (Community Bible Study). Again making lots of new friends. There is also a senior center, but we have been too busy to take part. Of course, many things have stopped or are on hold because of COVID. The beauty of retirement is picking and choosing what to be a part of with no pressure. I used to want to join everything...now I have cut back to my favorites. Book clubs, knitting groups, etc are great...if your area doesn’t have any start one. So excited to see other ideas that are shared here. Thanks so much for providing this site and feedback.

I enjoyed the video. My days vary with the school year, but I continue to get up early regardless. I'm back to walking and must continue when the school year starts up. I get out of bed, dress to go walking and go. Then it is coffee, read and/or computer, eat and plan my day. Those, along with calling mom, are ingrained into my daily routine. Well, hopefully the walking will be. I call it my zen walk.

Thanks for making this video. I’m a widow and my day is similar but lately I get SO SLEEPY after lunch (which varies between 12-2) that I nap almost daily unless I have an errand or appt. I like KZread and reading or listening to audiobooks. I don’t like exercise but know I need to at least walk. I recently re-homed my cat because she had recurring allergic hot spots, became aggressive, and I couldn’t take care of her properly. Hoping she’ll be adopted by a vet. I have IBS & GERD control it by eating small amounts of bland foods. I’m in the midst of decluttering. It’s hard to start but once I do, I enjoy putting lots of things in boxes to donate and dropping them off. It helps others and me, too. I’m considering dating but not sure if I should put myself out there. I love my church activities and enjoy some things about living alone, but I do miss having a strong male partner.

One thing I noticed is that you didn't include any place where you are volunteering or using your gifts in the community and for the kingdom. Maybe this is more about a weekly routine since it wouldn't be daily. I'm searching to find a new purpose. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

As if retirement is possible! I could not afford to retire and stay in the U.S. At 58 I was divorced, so I had to split my retirement with my ex-wife. I was born in 1945 just at the end of the Silent Generation. In 2003, I had worked for the Federal Reserve Bank for 30 years. Because of a toxic work place, I had to retire to keep my sanity. My only option was to retire to the Philippines on $348 a month. It is very possible to do this. It was dicey until I was 62 and got Social Security, after that I started living very well and still do. Had I stayed in the States, I would have been homeless and on the streets. But you cannot depend on checks coming in the mail. I have many retirement checks I have not received. I believe they were stolen and cashed with fake IDs. The Fed will do nothing to help me in this regard because they show no checks unpaid. The logistics of where I live make it nearly impossible to even send a letter to the Fed. It takes two months for me to receive a letter from the States, the Fed will not entertain phone calls from retirees. They do have a company go between that takes care of retiree needs but again due to logistics, security issues, Etc, If you get locked out of your account online, it is very difficult to get any help. Even though the Fed calls itself the Federal Reserve Bank, it is not federal at all, but a commercial bank (private enterprise). Therefore, they do not direct deposit to any foreign country, unlike the federal government. All I'm saying is, you do not have to stay in the U.S. if you need to retire and cannot afford to stay in the States. Just make sure you are 62 so that you can get Social Security direct deposited to a foreign bank. A check in the mail may not work and will most likely get stolen, forged, and cashed without you or your bank knowing about it.
