CAN you RETIRE HAPPY?
Фильм және анимация
In our modern, long-hours culture, we place a high value on career and success. So it’s not surprising that retirement is seen as an end, rather than the start of something new.
But it’s a mistake to think that you have to have a job to be productive or fulfilled. Many people achieve much more when they retire than they ever did at work, finally having the time to pick up on their interests, and be true to their passions.
Retirement is a state of mind rather than something that starts at a certain age. And life doesn’t need to close or end. In fact, it can open up in surprising and healing ways. And it can also be a journey of discovery and adventure. Go into it with curiosity about yourself and embrace the possibilities that open up to you.

Am 58 retiring next year but the thought of retirement gives me weakness. My apologies to everyone who have retired and filing social security during this time after putting in all those years of work just to lose everything to a problem you never imagined to happen. It’s so difficult for people who are retired and have no savings or loved ones to fall back on.

True, It has never been easier to understand how to build your money after retirement than it is right now with the inflation, when you may study and experience a completely variegated market passively by employing a successful portfolio-advisor. The impacts of the U.S. dollar's gain or fall on investments, in my opinion, are complex.

I know how scary this is. I have found a private mortgage investment firm, been around for 30 years, I took what I had and invested it. Today it gives me the luxury of monthly income without working. I’m doing what I love knowing that I do have a resources, while also building what I want. It’s worked beautifully for me. 🩵🕊🪷
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this. I'm in the U.S. and retired early also - at 62. I simply refused to die on the job as a factory worker and corporate wage slave. I drank at least a 6 pack of beer every day after work. Now I am an artist full time, I write and illustrate books, and my life is full of peace, and contentment yet constantly busy, I could not be happier or more fulfilled and I have no reason to drink alcohol. I am healthier and more vibrant than I ever was before. Everything changed for the better when I stopped following money and began following my bliss.

My goal is not to be a Bible thumper, at all... but an interesting quote, Ecclesiastes I believe, is "the day of ones death is better than the day of ones birth". Really enjoyed this video....
I had to retire early in 2008 due to a work related injury. Had to fight for my pension and felt ashamed having to claim disability benefits. A friend kindly pointed out that during my career I had supported many people with mental health issues and also paid my taxes. She also helped me with my garden as pain prevented me from doing too much. I took medication as prescribed by the specialists and was later told that I was dependent on opiates and needed to reduce the tablets. Withdrawal was a challenge however my garden was my saviour bringing me peace and serenity. My friend supported me despite having her own health issues. Sadly she was found dead in her bed at home alone. I believe she's now free from suffering and finally at peace. She was 51 years of age. Her funeral was beautiful and she's in a natural burial site surrounded by trees, wildflowers and birds. I will always remember her kindness and her plants survive in my garden and many other gardens where she volunteered. Thanks so much for this uplifting film and hope it helps others like me.

I once told a friend that retirement is like receiving a box with a big red bow, and inside, is permission to enjoy your life. I retired at 53, and I can honestly say that it may very well have been the best decision I ever made. It provides a level of freedom and peace that is hard to match. Suddenly, days belong to you, in a way that they never have before, and life opens up with a sense of joy and possibility. Retirement allows for the appreciation of the small things and the time to devote to the people who matter most to you. Stumbled upon this video today, and it is filled with so much wisdom and kindness. If you are contemplating retirement, embrace it if you can. There is so much happiness to be found in living the life that you choose.💚

Thank you for your heartfelt comment. It made me realize how the pandemic has thrown many of us into change that wasn't always wished for or longed for. The loss of a job, a loved one, or friendship due to the difference in choice, regarding remedies for healing, but also, for those of us who are courageous, to see new opportunities, and make genuine choices, finding unexpected solutions. In that sense, tribulations can be a mixed bag of blessings and grievances, depending on if we allow ourselves to be worthy of a good life, no matter the journey to arrive at it. To me, this video is a great example of how simplicity serves peace of mind, and good health, in sync with following what's dearest to our hearts. In my life, I've found such realisations after I'd made a choice to enjoy my years of retirement to the full, travelling in Britain for almost 5 years. Until the pandemic started, March 2020. I knew it was time to return to Holland. Quite a transition 😉
I'm considering early retirement. This video has inspired me. I crave nature and look forward to having more time to spend in it. Also, more time to care for others.

Please do it! My husband retired early. The money is tight, but we have time. Glorious glorious time. He has done more living since retirement than he ever did in all the years preceding. He saw so many waiting waiting waiting for 65. Many didn't make it. We decided right then that no matter how much we had to do "without", it would be worth it. It has been. It's funny how when you are retired, you don't need "things" anymore. Things were bought to feel better about the life we give away working. Best of luck to you. I hope you can.

My current side gig is ending soon. I am at a crossroads, but I feel I am in a good place to choose what I'd like to do next. I see this as my next great adventure. I'm exploring my plan to use my accumulated skills and become self employed. It's never to late to learn and no experience is bad, you just take the lessons you've earned and move on. Owning your time and deciding how you spend it is the ultimate freedom. Time is our most finite resource. Being able to control how we utilize that resource is a very underrated form of wealth. Even if you spend some of that time working for someone else or for yourself on your terms, you are still free since you are the one in control. Those who define retirement as simply doing nothing all day or never earning any money from working are viewing retirement from a very myopic lens.
When I retired it took me a year to not feel guilty, that I should have a job, etc. Now I'm really liking it, more each day. I'm finding who I used to be as a child and that part of me is coming out more and more.

Just like I refuse to suffer fools along my path, those who’s advice of life inevitably leads down the dead-end alleyway of false livelihoods. I’ve spent my life pursuing an ultimate goal, to live a simple, meaningful, purposeful life of wonder and inquiry into the unknown of my existence. I’ve studied the great minds, thinkers and court jesters of thought within my journey. Some get relegated to the rubbish heap of past thought, lying bare to consciousness, hoping for a future review for some pearl of wisdom. Others give head to thought games of possibilities. Some of which carry values of which I’ve cared to emulate, while others get casually tossed into the memory banks for future reviews. Hoping for some glimpse as I move along in this life. One thing that I thankfully learned early in my life is that doing for others is its own reward to yourself. It really takes so little to give of oneself, while our attempts at retention of those material collections of life, takes a monumental effort. None of which end up being worth the time it would take to simply set them aside and wander away on your own self-directed path. Those little efforts of giving of yourself allows those we touch a glimmer of what a life full of potential can become. Some may learn while others may simply take and scurry along without a thought of concern as to just how close they came to a living lesson of infinite possibility..... Thank you green renaissance for another beautiful video of life’s infinitely wondrous journey…..

I love it, life begins at retirement. I too retired early. I couldn't waite to get off the mouse wheel. A family member couldn't understand what I would do. Freedom, for one. No alarm clocks and highway traffic. I've loved the country walks and trails since a young child. I am grateful to have that experience in my childhood. In Michigan, I would walk through the woods in the new fallen white snow, with our hunting dog, Brucilla. The only sound, was the crunch of the snow under my boots, the first human footprints. Look, there, a rabbit went by..and those must be deer prints. I couldn't waite to return to Gods garden. The place, where I felt Him so near.🌿🌱☘🌲

I retired a year ago after working 49 years straight, the last 33 helping people get civil legal aid. Very rewarding. What I’ve learned this past year is do what makes you happy. Sometimes it’s puttering in my garden, sometimes it’s petting our dog, sometimes it’s walking in the park on a cool morning. Sometimes it’s doing nothing. And it feels wonderful. You’re welcome Meg. 😊💚
Thank you for this presentation. When we stop long enough to really see and experience our life, gratitude naturally arises. Here is an excerpt from the writings of Marshall Vian Summers about how the world can teach us through its "grandeur and its folly." "The world in its grandeur and in its folly teaches you what to value and to recognize what is true.... You must taste the meaningless to find out its true nature and content, and you must taste the meaningful to find out its true nature and content... You have already indulged yourself in the false so sufficiently that it has dominated your mind and attention. Now We feed you the true, but you must also learn to benefit from what the false has given you. Then you will need to investigate the false no more. The only benefit the false can offer you is to learn to recognize its lack of substance so that you may desire to know what is true and have greater capacity to receive it... The world you see so far is largely comprised of the fantasy of individuals, but there is a world that will arouse in you Knowledge, appreciation and true self-application as well...Remember and keep [this] in mind when you view the world. Do not let this day be wasted upon you. This day is a day of recognition, a day of gratitude and a day of wisdom." (Steps to Knowledge, MVS)

I learned this message in my early 20s...watching many people I worked with either die at work or die the first week of their retirement. I quit and have followed my heart for the past 42 years and I have no regrets. Life is to brief to waste time chasing things that mean nothing at the end of one's life. What a beautiful and meaningful video this is. 💜🙏💜🙏💜🙏

It's really inspiring to read that someone followed their own heart, creating their own unique path and living life at it's fullest, trusting themselves, and eventually experienced such a beautiful life. I absolutely relate to this perspective on retirement. I’m so glad I came across this video today. I’ve been resisting retirement, and yet I know inside there’s something beautiful waiting for me as soon as I step through the door, as soon as I release the resistance. The change has already begun inside. I live intentionally each day. I know and I can love freely, I can hold space for others, I can be kind and helpful. I have a light within and I believe that I have to let it shine. I want to be a part of the collective of people that are making this world better each moment, each day. Be willing to stretch out a hand to somebody else. Beautifully inspiring video.

I'm a funny fish, I love my job and could have retired at 60, but chose not to. I know the time is nearing. I am enjoying the change in my outlook. My work days are full and busy. My off-duty days, which used to be filled with responsibilities of child care and then aging parent care, are now free. I rediscover things that gave me pleasure as a child. I might walk barefoot on the grass, or even feel the discomfort of walking on gravel, I might crawl on all fours to follow a beetle, or get a better view of a raindrop on a leaf, rising with wet and dirty knees. Thank you for helping me to know it's OK not to have grand ambitions.

I was surprised the first few times I did a drawing that they turned out to look like the thing I was trying to draw. I couldn't believe it. Perhaps husband could ease into retirement doing some voluntary work for a charity he empathises with, to give his life the 'structure' he may miss initially? Being retired myself for the last 3 years I wonder how I found time to work! Retirement gives me the opportunity to breathe in Nature, smell the roses and exhale contentment and relaxation. Living simply is a boon and not going to work will save money and stress, once he steps off the hampster wheel. I wish you both well.

Thank you, we are so glad you are enjoying the videos and that they are meaningful. Justine and Michael. 💚
I too,had to stop working at 58 when body gave out. Living was like having to learn how to walk in high heels again..slow,painful, awkward, scary. Am delighted with animal companions and leaving only one birth child behind.

Glad it all worked out in the end Cheryl. But we can believe that it was a big change. Warm wishes, Justine and Michael. 💚
Living to work. It's the state many of us are in and feel that's what we must do to survive, but with a desire for more. Happiness is what we seek and wait for, but really we're striving for peace, tranquility, the ability to "do what we want" rather than what we have to do. I've been on this journey which started with an idea back in 2021 that I could make my work what I want by changing my outlook. The goal isn't to save as much now to prepare for retirement, but to live life so retirement isn't a desire because life is already pleasant, it's happy, it's what I want it to be now. Thank you, Gary, for the inspiring words.
