I thought my supplier was crazy when he told me 30 years ago to keep my leftover chunks and melt them down and make new bars out of them. I'm glad to see you do it and save money my recycling your chunks.

I have the same trays that you are using and while I was cooking Thanksgiving turkey and food I was also melting green and brown pieces from the last 2 years and my bars look and weigh the same as yours. Counted and figured I saved myself about $300 while cooking Thanksgiving. 🤑

I add I bit of mineral spirits to my melting process. It makes the green alot thinner and easier to pour. Plus mineral spirits is a "oily " petroleum product

You can add a little mineral oil back in when need to keep sealant going in your favor

If you let it get too hot you sure can. Mineral oil is great for sealant.

If you cut the green chunks up even smaller such as using a blender into almost shavings will that help the melting?

Yes but blending them in a blender isn't easy. They are pretty solid.

Can we add some additive increase adhesiveness as big blocks break down in summer heat here

When you are melting them down and pouring them into the mold they will dry out.

Not many fridges in WI that have more anything than beer inside, especially polish

If i find an old bar of compound that is rock solid, is that still useable ? Don't want to chuck them but not enough to melt a full pot lol

Some brands are still good. Some not so good. Depends what the product is made with depends on if it will have a shelf life.

Sounds like if you over cook them you could have a compound that’s more abrasive than the brown is naturally. Could use it to cut bad stuff that doesn’t quite need sanding but needs something a bit more aggressive than the natural brown. Then you could probably use the same buffing wheel to use the regular brown. Just a thought from a guy who knows absolutely nothing about it.

Why not use a mold with a handle? Eliminates new chunks.
