@jasonexploring 😂 Then never eat a casserole, salad, sandwich, soup, pizza, late night snack, stew, pie, etc. Many of the best dishes we enjoy are based on leftovers. You can't make a good fried rice using fresh rice. The rice must be a day old. Repurposing leftovers actually respects the life of the animal or plant that gave its life to provide food for us. Being a leftover does not equate to bad. And, please note, the chef is making a snack/sandwich and not a main course.

You cook the for your job the way I try to cook for my family. My mother taught me how to pantry cook. It was a blessing when my ex walked out on my son and I 15 years ago and took every dime we had. I was able to continue cooking great meals with very little. This is a skill that needs to be taught in school.

That's really awesome! My mother was a very....let's say uninterested parent. So she basically didn't teach my any kind of useful life skills. No cooking, financial literacy, basic around the house stuff, nothing. I've managed to figure most things out along the way. But cooking is something I struggle with still! She never cooked, so I pretty much have the palette of a 5 year old 🤦‍♀️ A YT channel that teaches the foundational skills/knowledge that you mentioned would be an awesome idea!

@@gingerleamcwow435 Same w my parents. I’m thankful for neighbors and friends that brought me to church. Walking with Christ helped me make far better choices in life than I could have with how I was raised. I’m high school, my mom wouldn’t let me get a job. So I took a class in high school that required me to get a job. Oops! Sorry mom! I bought a used mini fridge so I could buy my own groceries. I had a lot of health problems and believed I could improve if I ate healthier but my parents thought that was silly plus then they would have to make healthier choices so they weren’t interested. I was determined to gradually become independent. I was so afraid of turning 18 and not knowing what to do. I bought my own clothes, did my own laundry, made my own schedule, etc. My husband and I got married at 21. We made a lot of financial mistakes and soon learned how to manage our money better. I have now been a financial coach for years, my hubs and I are marriage coaches. Oh and I taught myself how to cook and garden. I cook nearly everything from scratch and strive to waste as little as possible.

Very few people seem to understand what leftover means. She isn't scraping off the plates people eat off of, she means the ingredients left over from making the previous meal. For example if she used half a pound of ham for a recipe but has a full ham she will use the other half for something else. Its called reducing waste. Its essential on a ship where there is limited room for food waste, limited ingredients, and you can't just dash to the store to buy more food.

Lol my Dad who owned his own dinner club and was the chef. Growing up he'd come over and I'd say Dad, I didn't shop yet. He would say mija sit down. He'd go through what was in the frig and man we'd have a meal. Me... Dad how did you make this. You waste food and I took what you had and he'd make a salsa. And we'd grub. He could make nothing at of something. I worked in development in Silicon valley. Project Mgr's would see my Dad pull up. I'd get a call Linda we see your Dad. Me... yes come down he made burritos. He'd bring like 30 for me to share. Security just let him in. He also took care of them too Lol

Linda here…we’ve been living on our sailboat since 2016 and eat most of our meals aboard. My cooking skills are greatly improved in spite of the need to minimize the heat onboard (Caribbean). Recently started solar cooking which helps with that very much. The GoSun.
