For those that think I said only 1% speak Welsh. No. That’s not what I said. when I said 99% of people speak English, that doesn’t mean only 1% speak Welsh. It means that 99% of the people can speak and understand English. Believe it or not, some people can speak multiple languages so just because most people speak and understand English in Wales, doesn’t mean they can’t speak Welsh. Didn’t think I would have to explain that, but next time I’ll be sure to elaborate 🤦🏽‍♂️

Some scenes from Robin Hood, (the Russel Crowe one) was also filmed there, (the beach scenes near the end of the movie, you would not know it though to watch the film as they had filmed some cliffs from a few miles up the coast the bunged that footage as a backdrop to the beach. Quite a few other films and tv series have used the local area to film stuff. :)

@@Spnlgrl1985 The national animal of Scotland is the unicorn. It’s hilarious because every other country in the world has some animal that actually lives in their country, that they can see out in the wild and point to and say “That’s our country” about, and protect the ecosystem for it and lead conservation efforts and look out for it, as their national animal... And then there’s Wales and Scotland. Actually, England having a lion as their national animal is pretty silly, too-they definitely don’t live there, either, except in zoos-so I guess the three of them deserve each other.

What bothers me is that people apparently think “Scottish” is a language. There are two living languages from Scotland: the Germanic language Scots and the Goidelic language Scottish Gaelic. I love Wales. I'm from England; just over the bridge, but spent a lot of time in Wales as a kid. We used to holiday in a little bay called Parrog in Pembrokeshire every summer. It's a beautiful country and most people are very warm and friendly (even to the English). Also, when I was at school, half of my teachers were Welsh. Many used to travel over the bridge to teach, or moved over for the work. The first Severn bridge was completed when my parents were kids. It transformed Bristol. Nowadays, there are thousands of Welsh people living and working this side of the bridge, and vice-versa. Also, for those who don't know the meaning of the long town name....."Literally translated, the long form of the name means: "[The] church of [St.] Mary (Llanfair) [of the] pool (pwll) of the white hazels (gwyn gyll) near to [lit. "over against"] (go ger) the fierce whirlpool (y chwyrn drobwll) [and] the church of [St.] Tysilio (Llantysilio) of the red cave (-ogo[f] goch)"."

Kudos to everyone having a go at the place names and am surprised no one said where are the vowels ;) It's lovely that people are slowly realising that there are THREE countries in Great Britain ;) (Four in the United Kingdom!) - Cymru am byth!

Very nice Vid! I'm pleased that they all 'had a go' at the place names. The funny thing is that after you've learnt how to say some of the letters like 'LL' and 'CH' , Welsh is easy to say as it's almost completely phonetic, (and yes, I can say 'LlanfairPwll.............. from memory! )

Thanks gelli! I’d like to go there and learn a bit of the language myself. I know I could just look it up, but there’s nothing like immersing yourself in the culture by being there.

Only the North speak the Welsh language I believe, and I visited Rhyl once and everyone sounded like they were from Liverpool which I know is not too far over the border. My 3x great grandparents were from Anglesey and Denbighshire so i am 17% Welsh. And Wales is a beautiful little country

Thanks just highlighting Wales….you could ask me the same questions about other small nations I would probably be clueless so fair play to some of those for great answers
