What Did These Hollywood Morons Think Would Happen?

Ойын-сауық

Hollywood writers and producers spent the last decade alienating customers and destroying every franchise they could get their hands on. What did these morons think would happen? That studios would keep hiring them to make shows nobody watched and turning Billion Dollar franchises into propaganda films? Hollywood studios are cutting back production after their concessions to the actors and writers unions. Leaving far less work in the industry. But still Hollywood writers and producers are acting like they're not sure how this happened. Wes and Aaron Sparrow explain why TV writers and producers are terrified by the new market their terrible ideas and strikes created. What did these Hollywood morons think would happen?

MARVEL had a really easy out with Shang-Chi and they blew it. They just needed to go back and look into why the character even existed in the first place: To capitalize on the American karate/kung-fu craze in the 1970s. All they had to do was essentially re-make Enter the Dragon and they would have printed money. Hell, they could have even set it in the 1970s and probably would have scored bonus points with some audiences with period references. Why no one thought of this is insane to me.

I love Aaron's example of the Star Wars game pushing female lead as their major marketing focus. I've been buying Tomb Raider games since the PS1. As everyone knows you play as Lara Croft who is a super cool character. It's been 30 years and there have been games and movies and comics. If this had been marketed as the 1st female protagonist in a console adventure game this never would have happened. Instead the marketing was all about you being able to fight and solve puzzles in this incredible 3-D world which had state of the art graphics. That's why I bought it and keep buying those games. Of course they'll probably now destroy the character by doing the same crap they are doing to Star Wars and Marvel but Lara Croft has been one of the truly great video game characters because she is an adventurer and not a female blah blah blah character.

BUT...when you get a pull back and you don't need the same amount of people because you aren't producing as much product then you don't need as many people. Usually it is the lesser talented people that lose the work, so I would consider that a good thing for the audience. Face facts the spending spree is over. Streaming is not what everyone thought it was. Go get your job at Starbucks near the studio and complain that Starbucks STILL doesn't provide enough benefits for despite all you do is serve coffee. Ugh...WTF20.

I have zero sympathy for any of the hacks that are out of work. Just about everything that has come out in the last few years has been straight garbage. Been watching Earth Final Conflict, Andromeda, and similar shows and enjoying it. Tubi is my best friend lol

its simple as bills go up (California's wage hike/ all these extra wages to actors) the company will find ways to save money usually by firing people or firing everyone when it closes.

Really appreciate the channel and the intelligent conversation; you are both knowledgeable and well-spoken . . . but I do disagree with one claim: KK did not fail because she forced "girl-boss" stories into SW to the point where boys left as a result. KK failed because she forced TERRIBLE stories into SW to the point where ANYONE who actually understood what SW was and how it worked got the fuck out. I refuse to accept that girls/women ALL automatically LOVE SW just because the stories are now completely gynocentric. The TRUE SW fanbase (well, what it USED to be, since SW is a dead brand) is better than that.

Years ago I gave up on most Western entertainment and now mostly watch Anime. Most games I play are Xbox 360 era games and there’s a ton of audiobooks I need to catch up on.

I mean heck the girls who were already interested in Star Wars left too cause it was changed too much with so much bad storytelling! (Coming from one of them)

We,our culture and country would not only survive perfectly fine without hollywood and their product but would in absolute FACT be improved and greatly heal if they would stop for a good long while if not permanently. Theres years of content to see us through if just couldnt live without it (we could). same with comics. i dont want to see it happen, but if it ended tomorrow, id be just fine. im closer to the end than the start of my collecting and theres plenty options to see me through to my last days. they can have my money till then or not. its their choice.

I was looking at box office numbers and the only conclusion is that Hollywood is delusional. They don't care about money. They chase the fame. Star Wars is a great example. Star Wars has a distinct pattern. It draws huge initial interest, then with each movie in the trilogy, it reverts back to the diehard fans. If they objectively analyzed the trend of the movies and cared about making money they would know this. The think that they just make money with each movie. Empire Strikes back is lauded as the best of all Star Wars movies but its box office isn't even close to the Original Star Wars. Star Wars had great fans that supported the franchise with each movie and the toys, while normies only showed up at the beginning of each new set of movies. If you don't cater to the fans there is nothing there. The larger audience they sought, naturally just stopped showing up; even for the good movies. These trends are easy to see. That a corporation, that pays people to understand this stuff, can't get it right; just shows they don't care. Bob Iger and KK just wanted to sip cocktails at a swanky party; while telling all the other Hollywood sycophants how much their movies grossed. This is also a failure of corporate entertainment. Iger and KK still got paid. The lost nothing over any of this. And they still have jobs. It isn't about making something good. It is just like working at a bank. As long as the paychecks come on Friday, no one really gives two cents about the product. As a caveat, when I mention the box office; I am talking about inflation adjusted numbers, which correlates better to tickets sold.

As angry as i get with modern entertainment sometimes, if they stopped right now and never made another movie/comic/novel there is so much good stuff out there already made before all this. In a funny way they have freed up our time to discover or revisit old stuff.

Incorrect. Legends of Tomorrow lasted 7 seasons and season 7 was one of the most watched shows on the CW Network. It was ONE of the many casualties of the change over to Nextstar. So budgeting issue, not that no one was watching it.
