    That's why I always believe in education. Money can't buy class and culture; but with the right education, you can become classy and cultured. Education may not make you a millionaire, but it will definitely lift you out of poverty. On another note, Kate's example rings a bell with a book I read called "The Sum of Small Things". The book says that the poor and the middle class spend a lot of money on tangible things like branded goods in an attempt to show their status. The rich, other than spending on branded good, are actually also paying a lot of attention on education, health care and child care. Because these are the intangible things that truly help them and their generations to stay in the upper class. Kate's parents definitely are smart parents.

    I found it interesting when I recently saw statistics showing that the middle class obtain higher levels of education, on average, than the rich. The upper middle class are the people most likely to get masters and PhD's. For the upper middle class, a high level of education means they can usually maintain their socio-economic status and wealth.

    yes but you need to remember that those tangible things like branded goods last longer than 'normal' things. so a person coming back from a poor or middle class background can spend money on tangible things because they last longer. and i know what i say. i come from educated middle class in my country but its not upper middle class. when me or my family started spending more money on tangible but branded goods with better quality, in the long run we had more money saved that we could invest on education or health care and ect. people coming from rich backgrounds doesn't waste time on thinking which goods to buy because they buy those with better quaity ( meaning more expensive firstly ) so they are already one step further from other people who need to think first which goods to buy and re-turn the investment later ( its only an exaggeration and and hypothetical example, in my statement '- the goods' can be associated with clothes, furniture, applinces and other equipment)

  • @sophien5416

    @sophien5416

    @@mayka90 yes, I agree, but buying quality branded goods comes at a higher price tags and naturally if you have the money, you will go for the well crafted item. Poor people don't necessarily have the money to purchase the high quality bag, so they will buy the "outlet version" of the brand or thrift shop. Which is fine, but it may not last as long (unless you find good vintage). And in fact, that is what they ought to do. They shouldn't be spending their money on a $1k designer bag if other things are more important. A long lasting bag doesn't compete with compounded interest, certainly if that poor person is carrying debt. But debt repayment and being financially responsible isn't as Instagram sexy as a designer bag. But maybe it should...people need to start doing stories of cutting credit cards...LIKE A BOSS (until you get rich and they start sending you cards like the Centurion) LOL

    NONE of this happens for Kate without Carol. Carol upgraded herself, and her family. This kind of trajectory, to the British Royal Family, to the heir of the throne, is difficult to do on your own. You need family backing. Carol had the vision for the family company, Party Pieces. Carol had the gift of networking. Carol used the family resources to get her children into the right schools. Bless Kate that she was wise enough to heed her mother's counsel. Sometimes, we would all have landed better, while we were younger, had we had an older, wiser, ambitious woman helping to steer our ships. Now look, Carol helps raise her grandchildren, princes and a princess. She no longer has to curate the best life for them, because at long last, her grandchildren were born into it. Carol is someone I would love to do lunch with. She has been an inspiration to me for a LONG time, and will forever be!

    I grew up in a poor family having to work when I was a child because I had to help pay bills. My parents tried their best and gave me a slightly better life than what they endured. They bought the smallest house in a decent neighborhood so they could send me to the highly rated public school. I worked multiple jobs to pay for college so I never had time for networking. Now I have two kids and desperately wish I could send them to private school but I can not afford to so they are attending the same school system I did. I hope that the trajectory of their lives can improve by college because I have really tried hard in life but can't seem to get ahead no matter what. But since watching your videos I have started valuing myself more and making more of an effort in my appearance. I shop the thrift stores in wealthy areas looking for nicer pieces. I always makes sure that I look put together before I leave the house even if it is just to run to the corner store and I do the same for my children. I have noticed people are more respectful towards me because of it. I have become more 'selfish' and recently took a trip by myself for the first time since having children and it was amazing. Every day my mantra to myself and my kids is we are going to be better.

    The secret about private universities, at least in the US, is they have more flexibility with scholarship money and have more money than the public universities. If your children do well academically, and/or become expert at something - sports, music, debate, art, etc - they can get a full scholarship that pays for tuition, books, and sometimes housing. If you have a private university nearby, go with each child at some point and have them listen to a college advisor tell them what to do to earn a future scholarship. It's much easier than with a public university that has soooo many hoops to jump through to qualify.

    I am not sure if you are talking about sending kids to private middle/high schools or private post-secondary (universities)? You might check private schools in your area - they normally have bursary funds. We were new immigrants with no money at all. My first child got a bursary for a prestigious private school but would send her there even if I had to rent forever. My second child was not qualified for bursary because we already making decent money. I have zero regrets for paying tons of money...I am glad to see that my kids have high standards for everything and date people from influent families. Good luck to you!

    There's nothing wrong attending public school or going to community college. What is important in my opinion is to be authentic and be who we/ you are. Kate or her support system was able to pay for her tuition for a prestigious university. What I don't agree on are people who keep appearances for show and validation for an ego boost but nothing to back it up. I too shop at thrift stores but then again thrift stores are more expensive compare to retail stores that sell brand new ones🤷

    I think what makes her experience different from Meghan's is that they had a long relationship. Plus, being born British she already had a sense of what the Royal Family was like and William chose to wait until she knew exactly what she was getting into, which is where Harry failed miserably, and it's probably the main reason why Kate ultimately thrived in the family. Not to mention William has always been the most level-headed and she also seems to have a more docile character herself, she doesn't seem like the type to dwell on negative comments (which she has received a lot of, especially during the "Waity Katie" days). Even if the greater family is dysfunctional, it's not like they have to see the toxic relatives everyday either. Like all families, they only have to endure them for a few hours on special events and then they'll go back home to their kids and move on.

I just couldn't stand it and some people can't. There's honesty and freedom in not being in that who's who in the zoo etc. It was expected I'd marry a private school wealthy boy, and I didn't. Never regretted it. Many of my friends stayed in that class - some are happy, some aren't but MOST don't give a damn about the disadvantaged and less fortunate in society. They live in an elite world in many ways, and any charity they do is mostly for show. Not saying they're all like this but in my experience the genuine, intelligent, authentic funny and talented people who had to work for it were far better company. Don't mean to offend anyone, just my experience... getting back to Kate, the thing I LOVE about her is that everyone show has even known her said she has always been kind. Good to see you back! Kate Middleton is one of my favorite public figures. While I do believe her power to network was so important, I also believe her personality had a place on it. She seems to be such a genuine person, one who has a lot of empathy and compassion for others - something William certainly appreciated granted who his mother was.

    Thank you so much for this video Anna! I'm glad you said there is nothing wrong with working towards a better life. So often women are told that meeting the right guy will just "happen" and there's no need to try so hard. You can of course meet decent men every now and then, but if you really want a higher quality man, you will need to work on yourself and your strategy. I like that you give us actionable steps we can take to achieve our goals!

    @Joan In Florida She doesn't! Because as you rightly pointed out, she is one of the descendants of those colonizers. And I have absolutely no self-esteem issues, FYI. But maybe you should think about what the Royal family does that they deserve the kind of respect and adulation their receive when so many others in your own country deserve better for the work they do. And maybe think about why a successful woman has to put in so much effort to marry just a rich man when she shouldn't be needing to do that! It is 2022 after all.

    Vivienne Westwood still has an over the top design style so they are not simple and elegant. They are still punkish in a way. When she ran Seditionaries with Malcolm McClaren she used the Royal family as a style influence hence the tartan kilts worn by punks and those fitted tweed coats worn by the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.
