    Poor Roger for getting nailed for political reasons. But as i grow older I actually notice that, spreading truthful information to make the world less information asymmetric is like standing in people’s way of making money. Because information (or lack there of) is what makes a lot of people rich.

    My girlfriend and I saw police men being responsible for a young man’s death. Next thing we know in the news paper, the story isn’t at ALL what we had seen. I talked about it and people told me to talk to the IGPN, the « police of the police » in France (which in reality, is just other policemen covering things up). They harassed us over and over again until we would change our deposition. My girlfriend ended up being scared and did what they wanted to. I couldn’t lie or bare to let alone an injustice like this so I didn’t budge. I ended judged and guilty with either 2 months of prison (remember, I’m a simple innocent citizen) or 105 hours of community service. I never used to say anything bad about the police. Let me tell you one thing, the place where human rights are the LEAST respected aren’t in bad neighborhoods, they’re inside police stations. I have seen things you would not believe. They are litteraly continued Stanford experiments. It has changed me. Made me hateful. Made me mad. Made me hate them all, because the good ones either don’t stay in this line of work, or end up being bad as well. I’m just one tiny exemple, some people have it way worse.

    Heres a playlist outlining mechanisms of arbitration between competing non-territorial law providing agencies kzread.info/head/PLoq3503aGbdcENRSUCHoUU9hNywYQrHgR It's similar to switching between ebay / amazon / aliexpress, if one service provider fails to resolve disputes between buyers and sellers faily you can choose a different one. It's also similar to the legal system that functioned in Icelandic Free State for some 400 years where competing chieftains arbitrated disputes. These are ideas of David Friedman, the economist Roger referenced.

    Great to know Roger's insights on BC and why he had it in the first place. But not very convinced about his thoughts on regulations (price interfere, etc). Over a couple of thousand of years, humans have changed from no countries, clearly less central control, to the current state with a great central control. This lets me think people are self-interested, thus honor systems will not work, and regulation is necessary to have society that could be fair for most of people. I think that gov regulations will not go away in the future, and decentralization is also not going away too. Some of kind of mix of both would be more practical.

  • @yes-vy6bn

    the government creates monopolies with regulations paid for by the monopoly companies. monopolies are not natural, they are a perversion. think about how hard it is to start a bank with all the licensing and regulation. now you understand why the same banks have been around forever.

  • @robbiero368

    @robbiero368

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@yes-vy6bn now think about Facebook and explain how government created that monopoly and how a libertarian system would prevent that. If the system is no better I don't see it taking hold. Certainly the market forces don't work in that instance as the "product" is free to the "customers" whilst the real product is the data sold to 3rd parties and to displace them you need bigger scale. The bottle of water examples are all well and good but never seem to accurately reflect the real world. Genuinely interested in what a better system would actually look like. Just can't see this working without it being properly stress tested. I also don't see how it would prevent "government" from reasserting itself, given that there would be by definition nothing to prevent that.
