Knowledge is becoming more pervasive. So what's the difference between a MIT registered student and the learner online? Only diploma？

I am a poor person from Brazil that had to learn English to understand this video. Thanks to it - although I don't have money to pay for MIT tuition - I am watching a full class by MIT from my house in South America. Thanks for democratizing knowledge.

Well, you can catch a Lecture, possibly a few different lectures, which I agree is Awesome! Any info, especially free info, extra Especially really good free info... Is ALWAYS welcomed and sincerely appreciated. However, it is definitely lacking compared to taking the class for real. You miss other things like tests, mid terms and finals... All are a Pain in the ass, however it accounts for a significant amount of the information a student will aquire, as the average student will spend 2-3 times the amount of time studying for Mid-terms and Finals, than the average study period. Which accounts for about 1/3 of the information learned in the class. Also, we don't have the benefit of the assigned Texts or Syllabus (if he assigns one.. though there's probably not much reading for this class).

@@vladyslavbandrovsky9202 i don't think so, usually to receive a certificate or diploma you would need someone to verify your work = someone needs to get paid. Not sure if there is a possibility to sign up for a paid online course

It is fascinating to take this class in the year 2021 knowing what has happened in the crypto space since 2018. And big thank you to MIT for making this knowledge available to the world free of charge. That's unbelievable generosity.

So thankful for this class. I wish I saw it back in 2018 but February 2022 is blessed enough! So grateful! I'm sharing this with everyone! This is such a solid foundation

The world is your library if you want to learn. Unbelievable is the age we live in getting free education from MIT. This sets you apart MIT. Well Done!!

They are not safe, most crypto’s will not survive regulation in my opinion our investments are only safe if you invest in cryptos with utility and will be used dont follow price follow fundamentals. Im in for the long term not short term

I wish I had a teacher like Gensler. Easy to absorb, concise, follow thru, topics etc ... excellent.

It’s interesting going back to this video to see Prof Gensler talk about financial sector problems and blockchain opportunities and now see all crypto lending platforms and exchanges that participate in staking under fire. Oh, don’t forget XRP too.

This is probably one of the most important lectures for everyone to see.

It's such an amazing video to come across. Watching from Nairobi in Kenya, and this type of content.....isn't easy to come across from this side of the continent. Thank you.

A year after viewing this course and the FTC, SVB and Credit Suisse failures, I have retained the following. 1. A distributed accounting ledger is created that does not require a central responsible owner. 2. An system of creating an increasing but limited number of tokens allows users to agree on value through a market, so it can be used as money, a store of value and a medium of exchange. 3. Combining these two allows the creation of competing systems that may have the promise of lower transaction costs and perhaps less government control than other forms of tender. 3. In it's infancy, significant challenges remain. I term these infancy risk, promise risk and unknowns risk.

What an extraordinary opportunity to be able to access literally world-class lectures for free at your fingertips...the times we live in, just mind-blowing! - massive respect for MIT for sharing these lecture series with the world!

I love how this guy brought up transactions/s. A lot of newbie crypto investors make the mistake of FOMO'ing into Bitcoin or Ethereum when there are cryptocurrencies like Cardano that far surpass them in transaction load. This type of content really levels the playing field, Thanks

Appreciate the interaction between the students and the professor in order to set up his slide. This is something that seems to be common place in US higher education. It keeps the course lively. Here in the EU, many maintain the idea of writing down what you see on a presentation, and having work on slides -> memorize and dig in if you have time. It works but interaction is lacking. Notice how he asks for the first name? These are tiny details that make a difference when you are in the audience. I've been taught by both systems.

@@lindavaca3321 If you still want a translation : When a professor have a good overall view his course become instantly very pleasant. There's also the fact that he don't put barricade with his students and is happy to make them participate

I hope Mr. Gensler keeps his intellectual integrity and not let the politics kill crypto currencies. Blockchain and blockchain enabled ecosystem are still in its early stage. Yes there will be fraud and failures, but what makes USA a leader is the tolerance of new things.

13 years and no use cases beyond offering financial products that are regulation free. At what point can we say we're not in the early stages and that the window to prove usefulness has closed?

He became chairman 3 years after this lecture. MIT didn't 'tap' the chairman.

Stunningly Good. If you are new to Blockchain or Crypto and confused (don’t understand how it thinks) watch this! Over and over until you catch it. Different but not that complicated.

I didn't know anything about Mr. Gensler until I heard that he was being nominated to take over the SEC. I'm new to cryptocurrency! I'm impressed with his demeanor, style! and amiable teaching style! I would have loved to have been in some of his classes! After watching this I'm glad that he's now heading up the SEC because we NEED someone who understands money AND cryptocurrencies!

My first class in MIT!! This is great, thank you Internet! This makes a case for crypto. Crypto in 2021 is what Internet was in 1980s. Be wise.

BTC was like 14K$ in 2018. I started mining BTC in 2011, and it was so much more easy to mine, at lower cost. Ok, I am not a big PHD, people laughing at me in 2011 saying I waste my time. Now, really hard to make many in the US right due to the Electricity Cost and Algorithm to resolve. This is like 7-8 years late when this speech was made. :-( Well, at least, it's good they share this on the web. Good listening all.

I am so very grateful to have these university courses available for free. For the last few years I've been researching and studying crypto currencies, blockchain, buying, selling, trading, using exchanges as well as all the lingo etc... Just teaching myself. It seems every other youtuber (with a channel on crypto and such) is offering their own form of online courses to purchase for hundreds of dollars and up, and their idea of what is correct and helpful is questionable at best. So this is such a wonderful opportunity for me (and others) to finally get a great education at the university level, on this extremely important subject matter! I'm going to have a very busy rest of the year, who knows I might never stop school! lol. Thank you -
