What CAN'T it do?! | Valeton Dapper Bass Effects Pedal [Review/Demo]
Музыка
Chorus, octave, bass amp, envelop filter, tuner and compressor all in one unit?! For £115, the Valeton Dapper Bass is a force to be reckoned with. But is it actually worth it? How does it compare to the similar Sonicake? Let me know what you think!

I think I’ve found my backup rig. I don’t intend on using it live, but I want something I can pull out of my case if anything goes wrong
It was me that loaned the pedal to Jonny for the review and I ended up selling it on soon afterwards. Now I'm regretting it as at the time it didn't give me what I was looking for but things have changed and now it would fit really well with my setup. My biggest issue with it was if you just put it on the floor as a completely standalone pedal it was very easy to accidentally move it when trying to activate one of the buttons, but if it was used on a pedal board in conjunction with other pedals that issue would be easily overcome.
I purchased one recently and wondered how I ever managed without one! I love it!
I own the Valeton Dapper Bass, and like it very much. I went through a pedal phase, and had 12 pedals, everything from boutique stuff to Electro-Harmonix MEL9 and microbass synth, MarkBass Super Synth, Wah Wah, Optical volume pedal, A/B/A+B switches, and the Digital Music Corp. and Bradshaw pedal board routing systems. Yes, lots of dough, and lots of fun, and now I just have a Sansamp 3-button preamp and the Valeton. I use 2 channels in the PA, and route my Sansamp direct out to one PA channel, and the Valeton to another PA channel, so I can keep my original tone and add in the effects tones as needed. I highly recommend the Valeton, it's clean enough for high-volume live stuff, and gives me the effects I need without a ton of programming time. And it's a great value at its price point.

Amazing! Sometimes less is more when it comes to tone. Thanks for sharing and checking out the video! 😁
Definitely going with this one
Soi use this pedal mainly for the pre-amp when plugged in to a board, at rehearsals and lounge-gigs an similar. I'm happy with it, it fulfills it purpose
I mostly use the compressor boost, I already have a built-in preamp on my bass so I think turning on the Bass Amp effect over doest it, maybe if I would play it in passive mode it would make sense. I think the most useful sounds on this pedal board is the Chrous, Boost Compressor and the Bass Amp mostly if you dont have a preamp on already.
Hey Jonny, love the channel! Would really like to hear you do a review of the Valeton Dapper Bass Mini some time. I think it’s new and seems to be a streamlined and improved version of this pedal. Thanks in advance. Keep up the great work! 😎👍
Good testing the octaver when you turn the dry down and let Ring only the low octave. Then you see the quality in tracking. Valeton Q-Filtre is very weak without compressor
I have it. Always use old strings on bass. Everything on this pedal works good. Chorus adds low end. Octaver is tracking godd as analog octavers do. Preamp is ampeg like and is very good. Q is good, compressor is good. Every unit except chorus has its own level. Chorus ads 2 db, comp ads 3 to 4 db on lowest settings. Great pedal. It's not boutique but sertanly don't sound cheap at all. Drive is tube like.
Bought one after your video, thank you!

That's awesome! Glad to be of service 😊
The only thing I use an octave pedal for is that synth sound, you just have to learn to play everything an octave up. The 'bad' tracking is what makes a old Boss OC-2 so great.
Had this pedal for 2 years and as a cheap pedal it’s ok , as a singer I don’t have time to fiddle with lots of pedals so I have it on a tray on my mic stand to add a little something to my sound .

thanks for the video. in your opinion is it similar to the sansamp tech21 model? I know that sansamp is much more expensive, almost three times as expensive, have you ever tried it to make a comparison?
I live in South America and the pandemic have increases our coin. I don't know anything about pedals so this one would be a great option to start because it has everything and the best thing: ITS CHEAP! I'm going to buy it. Great Review and Demo. Greetings from Colombia!

Lo compró? Yo estoy en las mismas. Me interesa un montón.
Q-tron, Enigma Q-Balls, Dr. Q, all pedals from Electro-Harmonix, all more or less grew from the Mu-Tron envelope filter pedals originally by Musitronics back in the '70's...thats how I associate "Q" with envelope filters. Don't know the real origin of how "Q" became code for envelope filters. Hope that helps...some.

"Q" is tech shorthand for the response of any filter - "Quality factor".
@luserdroog

@@MirlitronOne Very interesting. That explains why a higher Q setting means a narrower spike in the freq domain. That always confused me: I always wanted the higher setting to correspond to a bigger hump.

It's the shape of the slope that is moving in the envelope filter.....a very tall and narrow 'Q' , Q being the width of the bell shape in the eq
@javvieh
2 жыл бұрын
Q is a parametric eq term, and filters sweep that Q peak across the frequency spectrum. That's what the "au" sound is: a frequency sweep.
I just got this used for the compressor and preamp and tuner. The rest is ok, the octave is bad. But I'll used it every gig.
No headphone out though? Bummer. Still think I will pick this up. Would the line output power headphones?
I'd really like to know if you can get a hardrock/fuzz/metal tone with this pedal. I'm not in extreme sounds, but a warm, fuzzy tube-type-overdrive sound would be nice. Is it possible?
Sonicake for me... Cheaper (here in Australia) preamp sounds amazing and dedicated fuzz. Was a win
i just wanna fn know if i can use this direct from this pedal to my interface (i record in Reason) without a bass amp - my god

Hey Jonny, Zoom B1X4 or Valeton Dapper Bass? I play different genres (mostly wedding gigs)
Which is better guys the sonicake or valeton?
Compressor section works almost like Boss Slow Gear, because it have a fixed Attack parameter. It's funny but not versatile
Just got mine, MUCH better bass preamp than the sonic cake, I’ve had both now and I kept the valeton
£72.00 on Ebay. I was looking at getting an envelope filter and an octave too witch would cost three times the price of this and normally I would completely overlook something like this, hmmm.

Ive never got bass to sound good direct. so all that is bass to interface direct on the first 3 notes??? and nothing else. Wow wonder what Im doing wrong.. It works fine. It was a little tricky dialling it in for ADGCF tuning on the B, but a lot of tuners struggle with it so not super noticeable.
I cannot think of a single musical situation where that Dirty Q sound would be appropriate. So specific, alien, and useless.

@@JonnyDibble Np. Liked and Subscribed. Thanks for taking my critique constructively. Good stuff, keep it coming! I play bass mostly in musicals, so constantly looking for a tiny board that will cover all the bases. So far, my board has gotten pretty elaborate OD -> Morley ABC -> A/B -> 4 channels( fuzz -> chorus -> para EQ // rat -> comp -> octave fuzz // EQ/boost -> env. filter // dry ) -> 4 channel mixer -> amp. And a little black box in the loop to turn down the signal so the preamp section can crank. I feel like I need something like a Quartermaster from That Pedal Show to replace my switches and mixer. The tiny boards just don't seem to have all blending capability I need.

@@JonnyDibble As for hidden gems, the one I've found is called the Octo-puss. It's an octave fuzz, but it's totally passive -- no batteries. It needs to be after a buffer or a hot signal bc it feeds on the signal for its power. It gives almost a synth-like tone, purrs like a kitten. But it sucks all the bottom end out, so in shows I have to blend it with a dry signal.
Good content, but man, you really need to work on your sound levels. Bass super loud, then talking kind of soft. Get those levels equal.
