SANSAMP KILLER!!! (Sonicake BOOM Ave.) Full Review + DEMO

Gotta be real here. This stupid little multi effects pedal is RAD. And you know how I feel about multi effects pedals. Well, maybe you don't. Bottom line, I don't like multi effects pedals. I don't even really like bass effects pedals. So it's saying a lot when I say I LOVE this little pedal.

    I was so glad to find your video on the Sonic boom, I need a good sounding pre for recording Bass. I’m a guitar player, so I guess you can call me a frustrated Bass player, and I need all the help I can get. The comp sounded great on Fingers, Pick and slap, yes it’s a bit like throwing a limiter on the slap, but to my ears in a mix it would stand out like Jaco. Thank you for the video. Also you are an amazing player. I just hit subscribe.

    Yeah the compression did seem to leave more to be desired on the pedal. But other than that I'm sold, definitely picking one up for the holidays. I've been running the same SansAmp in my kit for about 5 years now, and my old DigiTech anniversary whammy octave broke/stopped working. So this'll hopefully fill out that lil something-something I've been missing. Impeccable taste and reviewing as always Dan, thank you for the recommendation.

    Thanks jay, that means a lot to me! Didn’t notice you commented again, ignore my reply to your other comment. I agree about the compressor on this, for slap it is just way too heavy. For fingers and pick it is actually quite nice though.

  • @jayvessel3444

    @jayvessel3444

    @@GunsandGuitars yeah it's surprising that finger and pick sound so much better. I suppose slap is just much more sonically dynamic that they just couldn't nail it. Have you tried the Sonicake out with any of your other basses? Just wondering if the results and sound happened to be better or worse in response.

    The Sonicake pedals I’d like to see reviewed are: Multi-effects: Rock Stage because they claim it can make you sound like you’re playing through a Marshall Plexi with good sounding delay and chorus, and who on earth doesn’t want THAT?!? And the Twiggy Blues, because sounding like you’re plugged into a Dumble amp, Tube Screamer, and analog-sounding reverb and delay is something every guitar player should aspire to!! Finally: ALL of their mini stompboxes! Just because we need to hear them all, why else?! Ever since your reviews on mini stompboxes I’ve grown to love them! The right ones not only sound great, but they take up so little space and are so much lighter and easier to pack, carry, and they allow me to have more room on the stage. But the best part is, when the wasted on alcohol barflies decided to jump up on stage, they’re so small that the lushes usually can’t find them to step on them! 😂

    Awesome demo, dan...the effects sounded pretty cool. I did like how preamp sounded with the fuzz. it sounded pretty heavy. \m/ if it has a chorus effect, I'd buy one. other than that, I'd buy it along with a joyo or mooer chorus and flanger pedals to complete my set-up. also that schecter stiletto stealth sounded killer. I've actually tried out the 4-string version a few months ago and I really like how it sounded. I am thinking about getting the 5-string version of that bass. that or a sterling sub ray 5.

    Mine is supposed to be here tomorrow, gig on Sunday. Since it is a church gig i don’t need major effects, but the ability to kick it up for up tempo songs. Currently using a Fender ‘65 Reverb pedal, but planning on using a HOF mini in the future. They don’t want amps because of the small size, so hoping this will cut my stuff carried to minimum. Wanted the Mooer volume pedal, but went with the Sonicake because of price. I will let you know how it shakes out. Recommendation for a Bass mini reverb would be nice, but I will try the HOF mini for now. Thanks for all your reviews.

    I bought this after I saw your video. I agree, there are some minor issues with this pedal, especially when I match it against other pedals. The Pre-Amp is great for my silvertone and bassman because these amps do not have a mid level. This helps give these amps a bit more adjustment, when dialing the mid down and up. I do like the octave settings. Overall - I only paid under $70.00 for this pedal and I will use it for my practice travel gear. I still have not matched this against my sans-amp pedal yet. I will have to tryout some of their other pieces, I just wish the guitar pedals had an XLR out as well....might need to break out the drill and soldering iron for those????

    Dan, have to say. You're saving me a lot of bucks and heartache to figure out what cheap clone pedals to stock. For a lil country (NZ) with no direct amazon route, I can be their Amazon 😍 lol. I used to just stock Rowin but really the donner and sonicake multis (and let's face it they aren't a zoom 505, we can unhate multis now) are a good future plan right there.

  • @GunsandGuitars

    I hate multi’s still, but I like Sonicake’s take on it. Only 4 effects with 4 foot switches. No paging through hundreds of effects, blending them together, programming banks, etc. too hard to tweak that stuff on the fly. I like to be able to bend down and tweak a knob a tad to make a small adjustment. That’s all.

  • @valvenator

    @valvenator

    4 жыл бұрын

    I won't say I hate multis but I do hate dealing with them and trying to dial in my sound is a total pain. But, you mention the Zoom 505. I have a 506 for bass. One thing I have to give it a plus for is the octave generator. You can play full chords through this unit, guitar, bass, even CD's and such and it picks the lowest note and harmonizes a perfect octave down. No glitches that I could hear. I would love to have that as a separate pedal. None of my more expensive pedals could pull that off.

Paired with my hyper luminal ,b3kv2 and my t.c electronics sub n up.. 399.99 +199.99.169.99+299.99+75.00 (korg pitchblack tuner) so my current pedal board set up cost 1,000. Great review, thanks. I was seriously tempted, but no. If they lost the fuzz and added a tuner, and an octave up, I'd have snapped one up. Would have been the perfect one stop shop, but as it stands I'd still have to have two more separate pedals, which defeats the point.

    @@GunsandGuitars The reviews seem to get lots of views, etc. I just ordered an older model Guitar from them as B-stock. - 1 guitar max had on his show actually - $150 out the door with shipping AND a guitar stand. You could get a kit from them for about $100-110 all in. Coming from Germany the shipping time seems a little slower than what we've become used to .

    @@GunsandGuitars I've solved a similar problems with backlit knobs before by using little triangles (the width of the entire knob) cut out of an aluminum can, and glued in place. Considering how junkyard jury-rig that sounds, in use it's amazing; the markers are 100% opaque, and much larger besides. That said, who wants to glue shreds of aluminum to your brand-new pedal? Meh.

    As a touring/recording musician in a wheelchair for almost 40 yrs, continue to learn from others and constantly look for equipment that makes my stage and studio time run smoothly... you seem to have pointed into the direction of a good tool. Do you know if they ship to Canada? I presently use a GT-1B multi-effect from Boss, but wanted something straight forward. I think how this one is built, the Sonicake could be strapped to the front of my chair on the frame beside my knee so I can operate it with my hand, by use of a wireless. Just might work for me.
