They are a pack animal - and the one thing they love is to be with the pack = family and be included in everything... and when they appear to be sleeping, their ears are listening to everything you say and movement you make and they super aware of the sound that the refrigerator door makes when opened, and the sound of snack bags and boxes being opened. You can try trick them and be silent - but 99% of the time, they'll show up and want to know what you eating! So - you had better have something for them too! They love Air Conditioning and will find all the optimum spots to feel the coolness, including laying on top of a floor vent or blocking a wall vent. Don't feed them bacon and ham!!! They need their own safe space and their own eating and water station that is always full of freshwater. You must wash the water dish daily to get rid of the slimy build up in it from their salvia German Shepard's dream and they interact with their dreams - by whimpering, twitching, howling, woofing, and then may suddenly wake up and be a bit confused at first. Then they get up, go get a drink, come nack, paw at, claw the place where they were sleeping, flounce and throw themselves down and groan and exhale. They hate it when you scare or surprise them and will let you know it - They hate being left in a car and fret and worry about where you went and will watch and wait for your return with a lot of emotion while nosing and smelling you - to make sure everything is OK! IF you give them a bone to chew - leave them alone. A bone is sacrosanct and it is theirs - don't try to take it away from them. When tire of it, they'll either hide it and just leave it. They remember it and will look for it again. When you give them a bath - expect that the first thing they do once outside is find something stinky to roll in. Mine does. Do not wash their bedding and use fabric softener, scented soap, etc. They smell it and don't like it, Same with cleaning the house - remember, your German Shepard has a very keen sense of smell and many cleaning products will irritate them. Four Paws track in a lot of sand, mud, snow, water, and poo. Toenails need to be kept trimmed. Teeth need to be kept clean. Inspect ears for mites and awful smells. NEVER stick a Q-tip in their ears. With a healthy dog, their ears will self-clean. Dogs lick their butt holes and private areas, and their feet, and sometimes their legs... This is natural self-care grooming. Shepards will let you brush them gently. They hate being brushed roughly and too hard and will snap and fight you to getaway. During shedding, they absolutely do not like their hindquarters fluff pulled out or combed out. For some reason - that area is very sensitive. Always check your pet for TICKS, fleas, injuries, skin problems, and give them a general health check once a week by looking them all over while being gentle and talking lovingly to them. Do not let children pull on or yank on their tails, ears, or grab onto their snouts. Never let them sit on the animal to ride it. A German Shepard is well aware of its tail and doesn't like it messed with. By showing and always treating your loyal loving German Shepard with respect and not subjecting it to anything it doesn't like or want to do - you a faithful family member will always guard and defend you and the family. A Greman Shapard is very aware if you have its best interest and protection of it in your heart by the way you talk to it and how you treat it, They are wonderful beautiful creatures.

I live in the US now,but when I lived in the UK(at my sister's House)she had 3,long haired GSd .Can u imagine!! But they all had different temperaments and nature's.. And the boys,did like to dominate the bed(for example her Black Male would lay across the bed&when her husband would attempt to get in,ignore his requests to move,but when she told him he would jump up straight away!). .So ur dog is a Diamond(if a somewhat spoilt one-which I admit is a very easy thing to do) So I think u need to get him a Gf👍,,If u don't mind me suggesting? Two are easier than one to look after,because there's less anxiety for the dog,when u go out to work etc!..But u are doing a fantastic Job,u have a nice family!!

Whenever my dad’s GSD sleeps in my room, he rotates between laying on his bed and laying on my bed. What’s funny is, when I wake up from having nightmares, he’s usually on my bed. I think he senses my breathing patterns change if I have nightmares and gets on my bed to protect me. That’s the thing about dogs. They can sense things humans can’t.

Oh man I HATE Nightmares I seldom had nightmares as a kid [ except that one nightmare that would pop up every now and then about this dummy looking at me maliciously while he played the piano ] anyways I Frequently have them now that I'm an adult, Weird... my pupper is one of those rare dogs that doesn't care to much for sleeping in a bed he seems to like the floor just fine even though he has a comfy bed of his own But if he's Happy I'm Happy, ok so when I'm having a nightmare and I'm struggling to break the nightmare to wake myself up he will jump on me over and over and over again he will also start pawing me too wake up and he WON'T stop until he sees I'm awake and talking to him then he will stay in my lap licking me almost like if he's asking me are you ok are you alright?! my little woo has saved me from nightmares a few times already, he's my own little hairy knight in shining armor that's why "I ADORE HIM" khfan4life, I concur Dogs can sense things humans can't... also I'm sorry for talking your ears/eyes off. My girl dog does that too. She will jump from her bed to my bed to wake me up. It would really startles me when I have nightmares Then I am awake with a very sloppy kiss or a very happy smile.

Greman shepherds are the most beautiful and sweet and cute and caring and loving and smart and intelligent and loyal dogs ever and I honestly love them so much

I had a shepherd named Czar , , he grew up with a cat. . . .the cat learned to be a dog. . . .No Kidding. . . .Every Trait you attribute to your favorite pet. . . I believe is a learned behavior. . . .The cat would bark at the mailman . . .fetch toys. . . get jealous of tummy rubs. . . cuddle all night long. . . . Everything except follow the shepherd into jumping into the swimming pool. . . Cats will be cats. . . .

My 90 lb lab sleeps with me. He's already in bed when I go to bed and I have to push him over to make room. I sleep great as he doesn't disturb me during the night. He gets up about an hour before me and goes into the living room until I get up. He's 12 so our days together are short. But who knows....might live another couple of years.

He may get more years than average. It's an experience like everything else in life. And no coming dog could replace him. Either way, I am with my third dog and the previous two are still with us within me. You just grow as a dog owner and make the life for the coming pupps better. Every end is a beginning is a fitting description in this case. Just enjoy the time you have and stay brave for the impending change whenever it may occur.

Buddy reminds me of Gullu, my GSD who slipped the rainbow cloud last year September 11 at an age of 10&1/2 yrs. I have forever missed him since. The love of a GSD is the purest form of love on earth and only a few are blessed to receive it. Stay blessed with Buddy in your life.

When I was sleeping on my own my German Shepherd would sneak onto the bed and nestle up close to me. Every time I moved in the night the dog would close the gap until eventually I ran out of bed and fell on the floor. I would then walk round and get back in the other side of the bed and the process would start all over again.

Who knew sleeping on pallets would make such a comfy bed. 👍

When I was a boy I had the most wonderful dog in the world. She was medium sized, about 35-40 lbs. She was sweet and affectionate and her gaze followed me wherever I went. When the kids 2 grades older than me would try to pick on me she'd chase them all the way home. But when I'd go to sleep she'd first get up just on the foot of the bed. By morning she was in the exact center of the bed and I'd be crowded up in the top third of the bed. That aside I still miss her.

German shepherds are the best thing that happened to humans and great prizes comes with a little sacrifice of sleep 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I had a wolve breed German Shepherd female. It didn't like none of my friends only family. 12 years still love and miss here. Wolve breeds are very special and can teach people a lot about them selves.

My GS sleeps on his own mattress in different room. Snores too, just like everyone in the house, sometimes difficult to make out, who is snoring 😆

My dog just likes to sleep on his dog bed. Live in Louisiana and had to evacuate from Hurricane Laura. Brought my dog and packed his HUGE dog bed with his pillow. Traveled out of a state. Four people and two dogs packed in one hotel room. Power going out in the hotel room. My dog was perfectly fine and content on his dog bed and pillow.

@@erikaalvarez5121 I been living bout 10-12 hours inland for close to 30 years. Normally when a hurricane reaches us it's a tropical storm with 60-80mph winds, sometimes a category 1 hurricane. It was a category 4 when it went over my house with winds reaching over 100 mph. I was at the hotel room and watching radar at 8 am. The eye was predicted to go over where I live and the eye and everything to the right of it will be hit the hardest. It changed course by less than 44 miles and went further right putting our house on the left side of the eye. We missed the eye by 44 miles. Our house didn't get a scratch, but our neighbor had half their roof torn off then folded in half. That was why we took the animals with us. Normally we just weather out the storm, but none of us seen a category 4 that far inland. Even the hotel I was staying at had a two pet limit, but that rule was voided as everyone staying there was evacuees. Some people had 4 and 5 pets with them in one room. All night long it was various dogs barking from inside these rooms. I seen more people with dogs more than I seen people with dogs.

Despite the fact that my dog is small I still wake up on the edge of the bed twisted in a pretzel

LOL They are so worth it though. I have two maltipoos....both have to be touching me while sleeping. One loves to sleep right on top of me. They follow me everywhere....lick my legs when I get out of the shower....stare at me while I eat....snore....they are gassy....they bark at absolutely nothing....taking them to the vet is a nightmare....but they are sweetest, most loving, most adoring, most faithful fur babies to have and I wouldn't give back a single moment I have spent with them.

German shepards will stay bye ur side no matter what they live for u .mine is the same way shes gotta be with me 24/7

naughty, obnoxious GSD !(: LOVE the long coats ! Buddy looks just like my beloved Rumble who passed away in 2016. at age 12.. I cried for 3 years, before getting my new boy. I still miss him, even though I now have a boy from the Czech Republic.

My wife had to shop for and buy very oversized sheet sets and huge blankets that overhang the bed on the sides. During the day our bed looks like a little kid wearing his father's clothes with the blanket draped almost to the floor on all sides. And then........during the night when we are in bed with out two 160 pound Leonbergers? It's amazing how bedding always seems to get sucked into the center of the bed when your dog(s) get in between you! My only suggestion for this nice couple is to go get a wider comforter and thank God every day for that beautiful companion Buddy. What a sweetheart.

Sleeping with small dogs is pretty alright. Mine just curl up against me when I’m sleeping, usually either near my chest or my legs. Course by the time I wake up, they’re always ready to go outside

100%,but Bax thinks that if I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night that means I have left my post in protecting momma. Therefore he takes over my position (my side of the bed) to "protect" the momma and I have to some how scooch my way in back into position to reclaim my spot

the thing i can relate the most is the fart under the hoomans nose....

Mine sleeps EXACTLY like that, on his back half the time... but I'm a single guy and have a touch of sciatica, so I sleep in an overstuffed recliner and let him have the queen-sized bed... 🙂 Oh- and carpet or rugs in the bedroom is a MUST for toenails!! Also look on Amazon for super absorbent pet rugs- I put the water bowl on one, and have a big one at his doggy door to catch dirt when he comes in...

My GSD sleeps the whole night and only starts to bother me in the morning when I show signs of waking.

That pretty much sums up what I am going through right now.

Had to build a reinforced bed frame out of ribbed steel for my massive California king sized bed. I have pyrenean mastiffs, 250+ each. All of them have slept in bed with me from 8 weeks old. I have no issues through the night.
