    So full disclosure: I read the transcript of the video instead of watching it (I can read a lot faster than I can listen lol), so please lmk if I missed anything or if the transcript is wrong anywhere. Pretty good video and good points overall, definitely I don't recommend steel washers if you like to just oil your balis once and never again! In my experience, steel washers don't need oiling _nearly_ as often as some people seem to think, but around weekly is probably a good/safe guideline. And thank you for clarifying to people that you should never assemble your balis dry! It's absolutely imperative that there is _always_ a layer of lubricant between the bushing/blade (and blade/washers). I will say, I think generally if you use Carbon Honey or Nano-Oil (something with an additive that acts as a dry lubricant) you can definitely get away with oiling steel washers even less. I've been assembling all Kuno units with a mixture of CH and Nano-Oil in them to try and safeguard against customers who don't oil regularly. I also include a set of pb washers with every unit for those who prefer them. Anecdotally, my personal Kuno has gone weeks without oiling before with no issues to speak of (although this is far from a scientific test). LDY's Ti-P washers are sort of an oddity. I've liked them a lot in my personal experience, but there are some potential issues with them (theoretically). The first thing is that they are literally Ti-plated hardened steel washers (hence "Ti-P") so really they're just steel washers with extra steps. The other thing is that Ti, afaik, is not a very lubricative material. The reason we generally only ever see pb or steel washers in balis is because those materials are very, very efficient at dispelling friction (when lubricated). I did think about using Ti washers on the Kuno, but I decided against it for a few reasons: 1. As stated earlier, I don't think Ti is a lubricative material (Deylan corroborates this btw) so I worry it would have adverse effects on swing 2. I tested steel washers fairly extensively (across multiple units) before deciding to go with them moving forward. In my testing, the steel washers really only provided advantages and 0 drawbacks (aside from the obvious one being that they sorta need to stay lubed) 3. Actual full Ti washers wouldn't work; this is why LDY makes their own proprietary Ti-plated steel washers. Ti washers would have a similar problem to non-hardened steel washers, where they bend on full crank and cause binding regardless of how good your bushing tune is 4. Availability is just nonexistent. LDY is the only company out there making Ti-P washers, and they use metric sizes. The Kuno uses imperial hardware, so I can't use LDY washers, and I'm not in a position to make my own hardware (nor would I be interested in doing such a thing rn even if I was) The biggest thing for me with steel washers is just that your tune basically lasts forever. On non-channel balis that run pb washers, I get so incredibly frustrated because sometimes I will drop the knife _once_ and the tune is fucked (and only restored w/ new washers). I basically baby the crap out of my balis too (only flip indoors, never over concrete). There are other advantages, but this is really the main one that keeps all of my collection on steel washers to this day. That said, I acknowledge that some people prefer pb washers, so I plan to continue to offer a set of spare pb washers with every Remshi Designs product going forward :)

    steel washers dont need to be oiled weekly, but id recommend it just to be safer than sorry, especially with typical bali content viewer LOL thats based of u to include pb washers with kunos did not know that they were plated washers, i thought they were straight ti washers, so thats my b wouldnt ti washers bending be a non issue considering pb washers bend? also didnt know they were like impossible to come by, cuz i was assuming they were straight up ti washers, so i figured itd be more available those are main points, but ty for the ted talk LOL, still wild u READ the video instead of watching/listening

    21:27 man i love this guy honestly this video does put things into perspective in a good way, while I do prefer tighter tolerances on my balis, sometimes I just let my kraken go without oil for a bit, mainly cuz I feel like its a bali that doesn't need to be oiled as often (the tolerances stay pretty tight dry anyway) but things like my orion I oil quite often, mainly due to how I flip and the types of tricks I like

    hearing ur thoughts on tolerances is really interesting. its really just a matter of preference i can totally see why some ppl prefer super dry and loose balis i exclusively flip stuff with good tolerances and whine like a baby when something taps my only balis with bad tolerances are the balis i flip the least bc i hate how loose and free they feel. makes feels tricks feel less responsive imo. more unpredictable. the extra directions that the handles move makes a lot of stuff feel more inconsistent (but at the same time make certain things more consistent) but i like the control that balis with super tight tolerances have

    @@vavorrjust lube around every day or 2 if it’s a thinner oil like super lube or normal kpl I’d oil every day like every 18+ hours don’t oil it so much where old oil leaks out and gets on the handles and then gets on ur hands meaning it’s slippery and hard to flip if it’s carbon honey or nrb thicc/canto/any really really thicc lube then I recommend oiling every 1-3 days about everyday if you flip ALOT

    Awesome, I appreciate the rundown.👍 So if you ran ss washers and kept your oil schedule up would that negate any damage or is it just a matter of time? It sounds like PB is the way to go and to just stick with what works. Completely unrelated, what are your views on converting floating washer set ups over to the “regular” washer/bushing set up?

  • @DJEyelessPyro

    @DJEyelessPyro

    5 ай бұрын

    if you keep the bali oiled, itll take a really really long time before anything noticeable happens, it would be like one of those factory machines that just keeps running for ages before needing any actual maintenance floating washer vs regular washer setup is a pretty easy conversion, either swap the bushings or sand/cut em down, then replace the washers, the difference between them is that a floating washer setup puts the wear and tear on the bushings, unlike a normal setup where the washers get the wear. they dont really flip different, but floating washer is way more difficult to tune, if your bali has floating washers, has good tolerances, dont touch it, unless you wanna do the swap.

  • @mendozatwotoes5992

    @mendozatwotoes5992

    What is it that makes floaters harder to tune? I was under the impression one of the reasons they started using them was because you essentially slap a bushing in there crank it down and you’re good, so saving them some hassle. Lately I’ve read a few places that they’re actually more finicky to tune. I read regular you tune the bushing and on floating you tune the washer. Is there anything to that? What’s making floating systems a bitch that isn’t a bitch on regular set ups?

  • @DJEyelessPyro

    @DJEyelessPyro

    5 ай бұрын

    @@mendozatwotoes5992 tuning in gerenal is tedious and annoying, regular bushings is only the bushing, you tune the bushing to size, boom done, floating washer you have to tune the washers, but not always, sometimes you also have to tune the bushing, floating washer systems have to be a lot more precise to get good tolerances than regular bushings.

  • @mendozatwotoes5992

    @mendozatwotoes5992

    I really appreciate the info, man. Is there a rule of thumb for floating systems for knowing whether the bushing or the washer need the attention? Like on regular set ups if it wiggles oversized, if it binds undersized etc. Is there a if it does “this” it’s washer and if it does “this” it’s bushing way to diagnose?

  • @DJEyelessPyro

    @DJEyelessPyro

    5 ай бұрын

    @@mendozatwotoes5992 same deal, but instead it goes; if it's binding something is undersized, either washers are too thick, or bushings is undersized, if wiggle, then either washers are too thin, or bushing is oversized
