I know I'm not the only one who had an emotional reaction to these images upon seeing them for the first time. For goodness' sake, we have invented the closest thing to a time machine that could conceivably exist, and it's allowed us to see wonders our ancestors would never have dreamed existed.

@@nabeelhakeem3593 Yes. In the "deep field" photo, the redder the distant points of light are, the older the galaxy is because of how long it takes the light to reach us here on earth. The light gets more red the longer it takes to get to us. And light can "only" move at light speed, which isn't instantaneous. If for whatever reason, our sun just randomly popped out of existence, we wouldn't actually see the light go out for another 8 1/2 whole minutes and our sun is basically on top of us compared to how far these other galaxies are. However many light years something is away from us is how long it takes the light from there to reach us. The stars closest to us are 4 light years away, so it takes light 4 years to travel from that star to us, so we always see it 4 years in its "past".

Though “scientist” often use this phrase it’s logically impossible to view the creation of the universe in real time. It would be similar to you viewing your own conception. They like to say these things because it makes the whole idea more fun, but lacks any common sense. Additionally the idea of a Big Bang is similarly logically ridiculous - Everything from Nothing. Who would have thought Spontaneous Generation was a thing again.

The images of the JWST are not only breathtakingly beautiful for anyone who wants to look closely. They can even shake us, because they reveal the inconceivable variety, size and majesty of the universe more than ever. For me personally, they also trigger very deep feelings and questions - curiosity and the desire to grow very, very old in order to be able to learn and see as much as possible are just two of them. Above all, I wonder if and how this view of the universe, in which we are embedded like a tiny blue pearl, can serve to make humanity wiser? Yes, this may be a bit naive - but the power of these images is unique and they send a message that goes beyond the purely scientific gain in knowledge.

Beautifully spoken, but unfortunately majority of the world is so preoccupied with orchestrated worldly tropes and just trying to survive that I think these images will go over the heads of most. Modern day society is so self adored that I don’t think a few sparkly dots will intrigue the average person to dive deeper. It takes a keen interest and awareness to even be up on astronomical news and that of telescopes. I honestly don’t see humanity changing it’s ways or caring for outer space until something devastating or unbelievable happens. Like an alien invasion, or Elon making it to Mars.

The Carina Nebula is also my favorite nebula. They're all just so beautiful pictures! I can't wait to see more images from JWST! Thanks for sharing.❤️💐

I instantly made the carina nebula picture my wallpaper. Beautiful images.

i really can't wait for more images from the James Webb telescope! was excited keeping up with it's building, then it's launching, and now excited for it to see all the stars and more out there!

Awe-inspiring, mind-boggling, and somehow fiercely tugging at my emotions...an almost physical sensation when seeing these images...every time. In my mid-70s and hoping to hang around a bit longer and enjoy more of this fantastic show. Thinking of Carl Sagan.

Sorry, that will never happen. You are looking back into deep ancient times, multi-million to almost 13 billion years ago..at unfathomable distances. Because of inflation, these galaxies are estimated to be somewhere between 40 and 90 billion light years away and speeding up as they move away. Many may no longer exist. We will never no. The speed of light (which nothing can surpass due to the laws of physics) is beyond amazing, but it's not even a crawl at these distances.

I mean, we launched a satellite (Voyager) appx 40 years ago, it's traveling over 35,0000 miles an hour (fastest speed of a man-made object)and it's just getting to the far edge of our solar system. Our closest neighboring star is about 4.3 light-years away. At the current rate, it will take Voyager over 73,000 years to arrive there. Talking about mind-blowing. The sheer scale of the Galaxy, let alone the Universe is beyond comprehension. Even if we could find a way to travel close to light speed, how do you prevent collisions with stardust/particles (instant death), exposure to radiation, etc., etc. or how do you possibly slow the ship (+ gained-mass) down, and when do you start the deceleration so that you don't blow past the new solar system? We can go on and on. Bottom line, when we talk about visiting stars and such, I guess it's OK to be optimistic, Nevertheless, the chances of that ever happening is highly unlikely.

the James webb telescope has opened unexplored vistas of the space several light years away and watching that feels so good. The carina Nebula and the quartet and host of other things are beautiful celestial objects which gives us a heavenly feeling.

I have no doubt that in this mess of a period in history we are living in right now, the greatest event taking place by a large margin is the James Webb Space Telescope, and the amazing images and scientific data we are about to recieve as of now and for the next many years. I catch myself giddy in utter excitement for what is to come from this magnificent instrument, and what a contrast it is from the desolation of this horrible war, the entire Covid period, the destruction of the Amazon Forest, and global warming. At least we have something truly awesome to look forward to, and I was wondering why humans can mess up so much, when we can produce and deploy a magical tool like the JWST.

I dont understand this either. Why do we have to be petty about land and resources, race, color, gender and other crap. There is so much space, so much resources and so much potential for our growth and prosperity. For a civilization that is 12000 years old we can do incredible things, now imagine what we could do if we stop being idiots and start seeing the bigger picture. We are curious species which drives us forward, yet we still do things our animalistic ancestors did, people are greedy, they never have enough and want more and more. I dont know if we have a place among stars but I certainly hope that we do and reason wins at the end. If not, lets hope that intelligence is a common occurrence and we are not the only hope this universe has.

I’m amazed by the vast number of background galaxies behind the main focus of the image.

Amazing explanations and video. Imagine sending a second space telescope up, set it up at the other side of the solar system and be able to capture a sort of depth perception to these natural artworks :o obviously you'll only get the true experience viewing through VR and a very expensive luxury but hey. I'm just glad they haven't made learning science into a subscription yet.

I like looking at the tiniest dim spots in the image and imagine they must be primordial galaxies or star clusters. This all blows me away. I think the fact that we exist pretty much proves their is "intelligent" life elsewhere. Statistically, I reckon, based on sheer numbers, it is impossible that we are the only technological civilization.

@@papa-steve It's because of the hexagonal shape of the mirror. 6 beams give a hexagonal shape. On the Hubble telescope you will find four beams.

I found it mind blowing in the deepest image ever taken....on the nasa website they said that the image was from a patch of sky the same size as a grain of sand at arms length by someone on the ground and look what we have seen in a grain of sand patch of sky....all those galaxies....insane.

Yep that totally twisted my melon, I just don't have room inside my head to grasp how many grains of sand it would take to cover the sky and therefore how many galaxies there are in the Universe. And then stars. And then planets.

These pictures 📸 of space 🌌 ✨️🌠 are memorizing and beautiful. It so cool to know that we can just take a break from this crazy 🤪 world 🌎 and just look out into what's going on in space 🌌 ✨️🌠

Why didn't they design the Webb telescope with features to search for signatures of life on planets outside of the solar system like this proposed Luvoir telescope? Luvoir isn't even scheduled to be launched until 2039. Took this long to get Webb up there. Should have added far more instruments.

Yeah, Ive seen so much hype thank goodness they actually released these images.

The James Webb has just seen even more galaxies than Hubble could resolve. Its galaxies all the way down!

JWST is one of my lifetime's human race achievement. I am still speechless and greed for more pictures from this milestone.

@@MrC9Oh3 more questions usually lead to more answers :) The biggest scientifical breakthroughs came from things we haven't expected, you can't really plan great discoveries, you just need to stay curious, and that's what JWST does perfectly. Back when they developped quantum mechanics, everyone said "why would i need that? It's just some atoms, we don't need that, we have the real world here"... But what has come out of QM? Modern computers, LEDs, Solar Power for green energy, phones... We have no idea how today's research will help us on the long run. But we have to do it.

These are nice images, true enough. But the same targets seen through Hubble were great too. I would like to see a comparison to find out how much better they are. How much more Webb can resolve than Hubble.

A lot of people are really jazzed by these images. I led off my weekly space vid (Space World Update) with JWST, and these are just the first ones. I hope people stay interested!

Man we can’t even imagine the true depth of how far these beautiful places are. The beauty and magnitude shown in these photos I feel doesn’t capture the full extent to how it would look in person (obviously we wouldn’t be able to but it’s nice to think about). Imagine the colors that we’d see, colors we can’t even think about, the sheer size of it all would probably make us go insane, it’s all honestly so beautiful in a way. I love space

Seeing these images of the vast physical universe hopefully expands our minds beyond the borders of our earth to recognize we are not the center of life, but only a small particle of sand on a beach stretching out beyond our capacity to imagine, much less understand. Marshall Vian Summers refers to this large panorama of life as the Greater Community. Here is an excerpt from his writings (revelations received over decades about humanity's place in the universe and the purpose for our time here on this small planet). "Beyond the curtain of shining stars above us is the living cosmos, pulsing with movement, change, conflict and relationship. It is a vast community --a billion billion civilizations undergoing a relentless process of birth, growth, maturity and decay, all in an expanding universe whose outer limits none have explored... Without such a revelation, could we know our place and purpose in the universe? Could we know the destiny of humanity and what awaits us beyond the borders of our world? I have been mesmerized by outer space since sitting in my 4th grade classroom watching Alan Shepard blast off into outer space. I was also enthralled by the fact that the teacher brought a T.V. so we could watch. Brilliant. 😂😂
