@@Trag1cVision the TG lads made sure to bring up the new changes when they tried to go to the US for a special the next time. They had whole new rules for filming set out for them. But the lads had already adopted the, let's piss about & have a laugh, attitude to the show.

@@cariad4297 correct on both points. When they filmed the Alabama piece, they went under work visas for doing a review show for the BBC. After that, the US would only give them work visas for doing an entertainment show. So there were certain tiny little things they couldn't do any more. I think one was not being allowed to film on a Sunday because of the new visa (someone please correct me if I am wrong). But ALL made by the BBC

@@andrewmoss3681 the specific episode where they bring up the visas is the muscle car tour to Bonneville. However, it was because they could NOT get entertainment visas and were noted to be filming a factual based program. As a result, the film is filled with gags about the fact that they cant say anything funny or the American government would deport them.

The way he rolls up to the camera "I've just remembered, I've got loads of petrol" is so perfect 👌

this whole episode was great. They started out with the idea "can you buy a car and do a roadtrip for less than renting a car, then sell the car at the end" and ended in the wake of hurricana katrina and just went ahead and gave their cars to people who where affected by the hurricane

@@robocop3961 Sounds crazy, but technically you could, like if it was advertised as a 2000 model and free, but it turns out to be a 1995 model, and you had spend $200 travelling to pick it up, but I wouldn't bet on a positive outcome for you!

This was just after Katrina, as you correctly guessed looking at the petrol/gas prices. At the end of their trip they found a local Christian mission and donated their cars for free to victims of Katrina who needed them. ...then, shortly after, they got sued by the Christian mission because Jeremy told them his car was a '91 Camaro when it was actually an '89 lol

This era of Top Gear was untouchable. Best show on the TV

I love how this took so much fear away from that state and just turned them into a laughing stock for the British.

This episode really opened my eyes to the damage of Katrina. This was a year later and the journey was from Florida to New Orleans, I was shocked at the damage that was still there. All of the Top Gear specials are fantastic.

I remember seeing this on TV when it aired in the uk, it was the funniest shit me and my mates had ever seen. The fact that they got a pickup truck full of guys to deal with these three is so funny 🤣

Just so you guys know, the special was to go from Miami to New Orleans, buying a car for less than $1000 to prove you don't need to rent a car. It was post Katrina, and even though the cars were knackered, they planned to attempt to sell them in New Orleans. But they couldn't after seeing the devastation, so they donated them... And the one who got Clarkson's car threatened to sue because the Camaro wasn't "what was described".

Yeh, most re-runs etc and even the specials dvd don’t show certain bits, one bit that comes to mind is where Hammond reveals his grill, may reveals his wardrobe and Clarkson reveals his shower, most iterations now just show them already being there and Clarkson just all of a sudden is taking a shower “… but IM COOL!!” 🤣

I live in Mallorca, people here are quite laid back and no one will run after you but people here do not understand when a person from the US starts a sentence by saying "I'm American and....They do it quite often(It seems like they expect to have some kind of privilege for being American and it sounds like other nationalities deserve less attention) Not good. And yes, do not dare mess with their football team 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

This was a brilliant episode of top gear 😂

You should see their Patagonia Special, they get chased out of Argentina, it ended up a diplomatic row between the two nations...............Had nothing to do with a number plate, honest!

I would love for you to review all the TG Specials. Bolivia, Africa, Veitnam, Middle East are some of my top favourites from when they were on the Bloody Bollocks Corp. I missed them when they moved to Prime.

I kind of wish they’d do the opposite but in somewhere like California or so. Decorate each other’s cars with pro Republican slogans and deep south culture references, and then drive through the liberal parts of California or somewhere that’s ultra liberal

3 things: 1. You could always drive around the East end of Glasgow with "The Pope smokes Dope" sprayed on your car!! 2. You must watch the rest of that hour long 'Special'. Cooking roadkill, putting cheese in James' air vents, donating their cars in New Orleans, etc. Great! 3. You also need to watch the Patagonia Special. This was the episode that saw the classic line-up chased by thousands out of Argentina and was their penultimate warning by BBC bosses before being fired!!

To be fair none of them were fired. The BBC didn't renew Jeremy's contract, and that was in response to him punching a member of Top Gear's production team, nothing to do with the infamous Argentina episode. The rest of what you said is accurate though. The Glasgow thing in particular. I can confirm that that would DEFINITELY get you in trouble.

I'm sure a lot of this was staged but the premise was definitely there as they've mentioned in interviews afterwards. The presenters just wanted to troll and it was funny as f**k. I did like the music towards the end from Black Hawk Down - ramped up the tension 10 fold, haha.

Haha so glad you watched this I love this episode and its good to get some americans take on it, the rest of the episode where Jeremy brings a dead cow on the bonnet (hood) of his car back to the camp is also worth watching.

Remember watching that ep and it was genuinely 😨 scary! We Brits were not chuffed that our boys were in real danger! i don't think it was long after Katrina. If I remember right, their 'tour' took them to New Orleans where they offered their cars free to a church to gift to victims of Katrina. The church promptly tried to sue them for mis-describing the car model number.

Don’t get me wrong some people use ‘gas’ in the UK too, but this is where the abbreviation of ‘gas’ came from. And as petrol is the source of it, petrol cannot be the wrong term to use 😂 either way I don’t care, call it liquid money for all I care 🤪

I remember watching this, it was hilarious. When they were in Argentina they literally had to run for their lives.

All time classic clip. As said elsewhere the only one that went worse was the Argentina episode. Not sure of the date of this one but they did do a trip to New Orleans after Katrina, with the usual hilarious results. Well worth you checking out.

Yes, they'd be in more jeopardy if they went with something like "Millwall sucks, West Ham rules!" and drive through the right parts of London but, even then I don't think they'd get in too much trouble. To get in real danger, they'd have to put something pretty extreme. But I think it would cease to be entertaining long before they could provoke a seriously violent reaction.

I remember that, that's the Botswana Special. Noted for the first appearance of Richard Hammond's beloved "Oliver"... I remember that it's Jeremy and Richard's idea to put the cow's head in the boot of James' Mercedes, and also putting other pieces on the car, to attract insects and animals as they're about to go to the Okavango Delta. They also put a cowbell on the underside of James' car... And when they camped for the night, it was Richard's idea to take the cow's head to James' tent, as he claimed that it's not working on attracting insects into the car. And while he and Jeremy were trying to put it into the tent, they were disrupted by a hippopotamus... The next bit of conversation is priceless... Richard: Um, hang on... Jeremy: What? Richard: That's my bag in James' te- Richard: *_THIS IS MY TENT!!!_* Jeremy: (starts laughing) Richard: Oh, man! Get it out!!!

Petrol is a shortened term of Petroleum Distillate, Gas is short for Gasoline which is a trade name like Ford or Hoover

In the UK you might get the windows smashed when you park up for something like that, but to get something this severe in the UK you'd need to get in a tangle with a gang... Maybe in Northern Ireland if you write something about the IRA - that's still a raw subject for a lot of people!

it is utterly terrifying and horrific to me to see the irrational and totally disproportionate response of the people in the self proclaimed hick town. The vitriol and the hatred, literally because of some graffiti that was exceptionally tame, is fucking batshit. I mean they were obviously taking the piss, but even still, that doesn't warrant death threats, hate speech, pelting the cast and crew with rocks, trucks full of people turning up. It's awful.

gas is short for gasoline, which is a liquid
