@@SvenTviking I went a Stray Cats gig and figured, like you do to make my way to the front while the support were on. I got to the stage okay but then on came King Kurt. There was a guy standing next to me in full immaculate Teddy boy gear; embroidered waist coat, drape jacket, the lot! As he went over I grabbed his arm to save his outfit. He nodded towards the bar. We somehow made it back to the bar passed people doing flying leaps at each other. He bought me a beer for my trouble and we stayed safely out of the way until the interval. That was late '81. I was 20 years old at the time, 6 ft and pretty fit but I think I was actually scared for a couple of minutes. A bit later King Kurt were on TOTP doing "Destination Zululand".....I had flashbacks.

@@roypalfrey5694 A couple of friends were Kurt fans. They made concoctions of “gunk” flour, dye, eggs and something to create a pong, vinegar or pickle and they would bag it or put it in washing up liquid bottles for the gig. They were both scooterists and Kurt played a scooter festival. As the band came on they both started throwing gunk and spraying dye in all directions, to find that nobody else was joining in! There were no other king Kurt hard core fans there, so all these other people were now covered in flour, eggs, paint, lord knows what else! Oops!🤣

Amusingly, I live in North London less than 5 minutes away and almost on the same street to where he went to the Woodberry Down Comprehensive School, along with the other band members (and actually formed the band). Unfortunately it was demolished some years ago.. Buster Bloodvessel once owned a hotel in Margate called Fatty Towers, which specifically catered for larger customers with features such as extra large beds and baths as well as fatty meals. 😃

Nerd moment: The music for the can-can is the "Galop Infernal" from Jacques Offenbach's 1858 operetta “French composer Jacques Offenbach wrote this piece in 1858 for his operetta “Orphée aux enfers" (Orpheus in the Underworld). The music was the accompaniment for the Greek gods having a wild party. The video inserts are of French-style can-can dancers. The most famous place to see the can-can is the Moulin Rouge in Paris.

The lead singer of Bad Manners goes by the name of Buster Bloodvessel. I think Ska music was as much performance and entertainment as music. Personally, I didn't appreciate it at the time but my nephew is a lead singer in a band and they cover some Ska stuff which always really gets the audience going.

Underrated ska-band from the 2-Tone-era. We saw them live in west Berlin during cold war 80's and the German skinheads was so big and tall and full of muscles that we prefered to stay at the bar in the back with our beers. No pogo for us! :D

Buster Bloodvessel was close to 300lb here so seeing him dance and do cartwheels is impressive enough! I think this band are the dictionary definition of 'underappreciated' in the UK. Other bands in that category are Chas 'N' Dave, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer and Pittman (all entertaining acts in their own right but all totally different).

Love seeing you two really 'getting' us Brits, especially my generation who grew up in the 70's. Late 70's to early 80's was amazing times, all about not giving a fuck, and just having fun.

"What are they smoking?!" Well, funny you should mention that; I remember one drizzly, autumnal, Sunday evening back in the early 1990's. A friend of mine and I popped round to Buster's house (my friend had something to drop off there as he did a few odd jobs for him) and he had a couple of other mates with him and we spent about an hour sitting around, drinking tea and smoking puff. It all seemed a bit surreal at the time, but it's something I'll always remember. Nice bloke he was and surprisingly, softly spoken.
