    Mine shifts perfectly but starts to slip and shift rough as it heats up. When it's cold shifts like a dream but when it warms up shifts horribly. Is that a sign of a bad valve body.

    My car did that. I added Lucas oil trans fix and it went away (but shifting was delayed). I later found out the 1-2 shift solenoid wasn’t working well and it crapped out on me completely on a road trip and I lost 4th gear lol. I replaced both shift solenoids and the pressure control solenoid. The car now basically doesn’t go into gear, or if it does, it’s very strange. Turns out that damaged valve bodies can strain shift solenoids. In short, maybe/yes, but it might a root cause whereas a shift solenoid is causing the immediate problems. Any check engine light? What gears does it shift roughly into? And how many totally gears does your car have/what speed is your transmission?

  • @gunsole64

    2016 Hyundai Elantra automatic transmission. Car won't go into gear. Oil looks just like yours. 225k. If you put it in second and push the gas it will sometimes go into gear and you can drive. It doesn't slip at all and shifts good when it goes into gear. As a last ditch effort I did an at home flush. Same symptoms. By the way it still doesn't slip when I get it in gear. Here's my question. In the valve body is there two or more solenoids that engage for 1-4 gear? I have a hunch one of the solenoids is not engaging properly.

    Well it turns out that it wasn’t the valve body. It was the Under drive clutch. I decided to replace the transmission with a used transmission. Runs great now.

  • @femensah

    @femensah

    2 жыл бұрын

    For my 2009, when cold, it's like slipping tranny, however after starting on cold and put in drive whiles stepping on brakes, with the temperature rose above the 1/4 level getting to midrange, that is when releasing the brade has the car attempt to move. After that it gets to drive normal and will shift perfectly upwards and downshift.. Only issue is in between long stops and engine cools down you need to start card, engage tranny and wait for about 5 to 10 minutes before you can move. The only tranny code I've had is P02757 that indicates torque converter clutch solenoid. Where's that located? Oil recently change with new filter kit.

    can adding fluid cooler cause valve body issues?

  • @jacoblami1731

    @jacoblami1731

    Жыл бұрын

    If the cooler is cheap and has metal shavings left over from machining it could...Also if there's some spot where the barrier between coolant and transmission fluid is broken you'll introduce water and PG and spoil the trans fluid as some types are quite hydroscopic. If your fluid looks like a strawberry milkshake this has likely occured.

  • @HR-rt9nh

    @HR-rt9nh

    @@jacoblami1731 Hey thanks for the response. I have a high quality external cooler, well it looks well made, it cost pretty penny, no shavings no leaks, no contact with engine coolant. my concern was if an additional component added inline would restrict flow. but from what i been told by various forums flow restriction would be negligible unless the cooler its self had bad design with internal restrictions which this cooler does not have as its basically a pipe with external fins.

  • @jacoblami1731

    @jacoblami1731

    Жыл бұрын

    @@HR-rt9nh I doubt it. The stock cooler is already the bottle neck as far as restriction is concerned and the cooler lines are narrower than most ATF passages on any decent coolers. The only thing I'd worry about is if the after market cooler were for some reason less effective than the stock cooler and things got toasty...overheating will kill your seals, TCU, etc and then from there your planetary gears and clutches get toasted from lack of fluid pressure and the heat.
