What I like about you Debbie, is not only are you a great Gardner and you get right to the teaching of planting, but also, you do it being yourself, unlike some who turn it into a Hollywood fashion show of them selves, thanks for all you do!

Yay! I just purchased 4 lavender plants because I wanted to do my own science experiment with which I like best! Obviously, I want it to last, bloom, look gorgeous and be fragrant! I guess I better plant it in some soil that will suit these purposes!

I'm a new subscriber. I almost didn't subscribe because I didn't want " information overload" on the same subjects. I am so happy that I continued to watch your channel. I was so blown away by your knowledge of lavenders. I'm now getting ready to watch your video on bananas and cannas. Yes, another subject I have a question on. The first video of yours that I watched was on edging the landscape. I love the precise but simple way you present your videos. I'm so happy and grateful I found your channel. I've been gardening for 25yrs plus! Learning, just like gardening, never goes out of style! Happy Gardening!

Thank You so much for posting this! This is SO helpful. Very informative and well explained. My husband and I grew up with our parents and grandparents growing beautiful gardens. Both flower & vegetable gardens. We did a little bit, took a break when we moved & had a baby. Last year we started again with a couple of herbs and cherry tomatoes. This year we're expanding. I have a half whiskey barrel that we're putting a couple blueberry bushes in. We're also potting a few lavender plants, which I'm extra excited for. I had my heart set on the English because I like plants and flowers that have more than one use. After watching your video, I definitely feel confident that I'm making the right decision.

Perfect for beginner lavender growers: Lavandula stoechas - Spanish Lav. - blooms year round in the heavy clay of my San Francisco Bay Area home (Hardiness zone 10a). I’m currently enjoying a flush of late December blossoms. Extremely drought tolerant and abundant flowering habit. After established, I basically ignore them. They grow 4 feet wide and feed the native bees.

Fantastic video! I would just point out that despite the name, there is no such thing as “English” lavender. The English simply adopted the Mediterranean species best suited to their climate, which grows wild here in its native habitat in the foothills of the Alps in Provence, France. 🤗 Love learning about the growing habits of all these species and varieties. Thank you.

I thought I was the only one that didn’t like the smell.....well I just learned from you that I have the rosemary smelling ones. You mentioned they are herbs, but I remember reading some are not edible. And yes indeed, they need to be trimmed.....I have a large woody one that probably needs to come out, but when it blooms I get sidetracked and it’s still in the ground. I don’t have the heart to take out....even though I bought another 14 plants this year.

Hi! Maybe you can help me?!! I'm English and live in Greece and for years only managed to keep one Lavender plant which flowers every year. Have tried to propagate from it but with no success, it was grown from seed. Since then have managed to find Lavender here in garden shops, not sure which type but they have a flatter leaf and grow like crazy! Have managed to propagate this type by pegging stems into the ground but my problem is none of them flower except one which is on my parents grave, high on a hill in full sun with barely any water! The plants in my garden only put out a few flower spikes. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for the information, I research all I can about lavendar. I was curious about the pruning, I noticed that lavendar, phenomenal in particular, can become very woody. I do not prefer heavily woody lavendar. I bought three such plants last year and against all advice given here on KZread, I cut them way, way down into the wood, to the ground, in early spring this year in hopes of diminishing the woody growth this year. Fast forward to today and my plants grew back and are very fragrant with fresh new tender growth and almost no wood, it is all fresh new lavendar, thick and lush. Only difference I have noticed is that two of the 3 plants are not blooming but I think they are getting ready to send up spikes and bloom, they just seem to be delayed.
