    Hey comment section, I recorded all 3 episodes before publishing the first one, so I didn't see any of your comments back then. I have read them all now. I can only rerererereview a tier list so many times but if there's any adjustments needed later I'll keep em in mind (as long as they add new arguments to the table)

    Props to Casey for the detailed analysis of kids. The old Awakening tier lists tended to just leave the kids untiered, which always disappointed me a bit, so I'm glad to see them properly done at last. I'm going to call out A Laurent in particular. I used Interceptor's guide to get through my first Lunatic+ run, so Laurent is probably my favourite of all the kids, too. Morgans are funny, but I'd like to say male should be above female, because both can get Galeforce, but only male Morgan can get Aggressor. Though I guess DLC isn't being considered, heh.

    both are pretty good, in base game galeforce won't be as common as most want it to be so unless morgan can inherit it or joins as a peg knight (because of the mum) then go for it but if for some other scenario it would be very late for female to learn it and for male you would have to get female robin at level 15 dark flier which is unrealistic on a more classic playthrough and once you reach it then male morgan might end up joining far too late unless robin solos the game. for dlc included min-max builds female morgan can learn aether (male morgan can do but it's at the cost for a weaker pairing for chrom as sumia is the best non avatar pairing) if the mum is lucina or another chrom child and overall out of the exclusive skills the morgans can inherit female gets better ones

    I think the best thing about Morgan is the fact that they have easy Galeforce combined with high stats and decent starting class allows them to be used for Galechains, as I call them, where you pair two Galeforce users (Usually Robin and Morgan), and then you kill one enemy, switch to have the other kill an enemy, then you can switch again, and get 3 actions in 1 turn on that pair, which is how you can 1 turn basically every map from 16-25 bar 22, when used in tandem with dancing and rescue. You don't even need that much rescue range when you're using this strategy (Except in 17, you need the most).

    Yeah, I used that kind of strategy, but without Olivia, becuase she tends to be very squishy, with low HP and DEF. I'm surprised alot of people say Olivia is S rank, despite joining underleveled and having low HP and DEF. If Olivia was like Reyson who can chant t o4 chracters instead of 1 character, then Olivia would be best support character in the game!

    Basically the viability of the children is determined by the viability of their parents. The biggest factors are the child's base stats and the inherent difficulty of their joining chapters. Inigo is really bad for example because Olivia has shit stats and his chapter is stupid hard. Morgan on the other hand is typically really good because of robin's stats and because it's an easy chapter so it can be completed early.

I had lucina second seal to cav and raised her to lv 10, promote, then raised to lv 15 paladin. This was complete around ch 23. This was a lucina with galeforce. Olivia gets a 3 chapter head start but has to dance her way to lv 10, reclass to pegasus knt with e rank lances, get to lv 10, promote, and get to lv 15 all while dealing with her bad bases and silver bows being everywhere. Just for reference, her absolute bases are worse than sumia's absolute bases 8 chapters ago. This is maybe feasible on hard mode because olivia might not die in one hit and exp gains are more forgiving, but i don't see it happening on lunatic without the exp dlc. Also inigo's paralogue isn't really feasible to complete until around ch 20+ which is incredibly late to begin training a unit anyways.

    Oh I remember awakening and fates pairing lists. Fates I just did marriage groups as enough replays and you get all the skills no sweat. Awakening wise I had to make lists and remake them for both best kids to make super units so all the galeforth kids and armshift were top tier while Gerome Laurent and yarne who had less detail to them. Same with how limited sumia is as well as chrom for somehow not having supports with a majority of people in the cast despite talking to them. Also two accounts as I loved both tharja and Cordelia a ton.

    Great video with poignant analysis throughout! I really enjoyed this series, and I'm glad to have been introduced to Casey and his content. I would like to bicker a little bit in the comments, however, in defense of Lissa, Henry, and in particular, Henry!Owain. I think all 3 were underrated in this tier list, specifically for the Hard and Lunatic difficulties (L+ is a different animal entirely). Lissa: As mentioned, she *is* the only staff user for the first chunk of a rather difficult early game, so she gets a lot of free EXP this way. What was not mentioned, however, was just how much free EXP she can really get, since Rescue experience is absolutely ridiculous, especially for a Staff-locked unit. You get access to 2 rescue staves before they become purchasable at Port Ferox, and those 10 Rescue uses (which shouldn't be hoarded as the item becomes buyable fairly early into the game) have a base EXP value of 40, meaning that this is about 4 Lissa levels accounted for before she needs to spam Heal/Mend at all. I don't consider this an opportunity cost compared to giving this EXP to Maribelle, since Lissa has a substantial level lead and therefore a larger Rescue range than Maribelle. With this in mind, Lissa hits level 10 very quickly, and I find that she makes a nearly uncontested case for the first Master Seal, since units like Robin likely want to hop between basic classes before promoting and increasing their internal level. As a Sage, Lissa becomes able to contribute to kills with ranged magical damage, increases her Rescue range even further, and gets access to the two great Sage skills very quickly since Rescue EXP remains stellar even after promotion. Once she gets to 10/15, it's just fine to relegate her to "Sage Pair-Up bonuses lol" as you'll probably have a plenitude of better Rescue users by this point (Libra, Anna, trained Sage Miriel, etc.) Henry: I think that Henry is another great candidate for early promotion. His base stats increase with the game's difficulty, and with the Sorcerer promotion bonuses (and sometimes with the help of a Speed-boosting pair up backpack and/or Speed tonic to prevent middling-speed enemies from doubling him) he can immediately get to work in his join chapter by trading him a Master Seal and a few recently-buyable Nosferatu tomes. His join chapter is honestly worse for him than the bulk of the Valm arc, with its thralls of slow, bulky, low Res Knights and Generals that Henry absolutely feasts upon. This way, he's able to pretty quickly get to Sorc 5 for Vengeance, despite the reduced EXP gain of promoted classes. Early promotion to Sorcerer is pretty much the only way to make Henry perform well, especially on Lunatic, but this is sort of a blessing in disguise since with a bit of help in the form of a Master Seal and consistent statistical patchwork from Pair Up + Tonics, he can become one of the few somewhat-functional-at-base units in a game full of growth projects. Henry!Owain: While this Owain did get an honorable mention, he was glossed over due to understandable time constraints, so I'd just like to highlight him a bit more here. Innate Vantage/Vengeance is really great on its own, and makes him quite a bit more functional than some of the other kids from the moment he joins. Not only this, but for reasons I highlighted in my breakdown of Lissa, he should also be able to very feasibly inherit Tomefaire from his mother. For the price of 1 Second Seal (which are buyable at the Mila Tree before you unlock Owain's paralogue), he can reclass to Dark Mage, and by level 10 have Vantage, Vengeance, Tomefaire, Hex, and Anathema (which would be a totally viable skillset for an endgame unit) pretty much before the end of his join chapter. In this way, I think he's a lot more similar to Laurent than is given credit to him here, the big differences being that something like Gregor!Laurent can start with Armsthrift and a Tome rank while Owain always has innate Vantage to work with. However, the answer to this dilemma is "just use both lol". On the topic of Owain's Tome rank, it is worth noting that Awakening is pretty generous with Arms Scrolls, with 4 being available throughout the game, 2 of which are guaranteed to have been obtained before Owain's join chapter. These are valuable, but not in extraordinarily high demand, and Dark Mage Owain makes a great target for one of them, since Nosferatu is a buyable, forgeable D rank tome. Once he starts to snowball as a Dark Mage and gains access to HexAthema, he can then just promote to either Sorcerer for more Nosferatu abuse or Dark Knight for greater bulk and movement (as well as regaining access to the Levin Sword, which can be situationally useful against enemies with Aegis). Both Sorc and Dark Knight provide some very nice pair up bonuses, and his excellent enemy phase and HexAthema auras make him a great partner for any magical player-phase focused Galeforce units on your late game team. And while it's somewhat wasteful given this Owain's lack of Armsthrift, a Vantage Vengeance Tomefaire HexAthema mage can make devastating use of any spare Celica's Gales you may have collecting dust in your convoy. On top of all of this, I've neglected to mention that Henry is a relatively low-demand father in the grand scheme of things due to his late join time, reducing the opportunity cost of Henry!Owain relative to someone like Gregor!Laurent. In sum, I find that Henry!Owain makes for a very powerful and relatively low-investment 2nd gen unit that can really benefit from his parents both being great targets for early promotion, receiving piggybacked base stats and luxurious promoted-class skills that pair very well with his innate access to Vantage, which is a skill that is typically a massive pain in the ass to obtain. As I said before, just chuck him a Second Seal and an Arms Scroll and he's pretty much up and running as a solid enemy phaser as soon as you recruit him. Plus this gives Owain white hair, and it seems very in-character for him to give himself frosted tips. THANK YOU FOR READING MY DARK ANALYSIS

    I know next to nothing about Awakening, but I wasn’t very surprised at the notion of most kids outclassing their parents due to better growth rates and better class access. This seems to be the game where class access matters a lot, so someone with more options will be able to complete builds easier than someone with more limitations. What I wasn’t expecting is Stahl and Gregor being such good dads. But Gregor is the best, so I can’t be too surprised. Those three parts were very insightful and I will definitely use them as a guide if I ever decide to do Awakening Lunatic runs. Thanks a lot you two ❤

    Child units having higher growths is a misconception. Their growth are mother+father+basechildgrowth/3. Base child growths are +- 20 of their parent so the difference is negligible. The real difference is their base stats. Children base stats are mother+father+basechild/3. This means that you can have the equivilant of a lv 20-40 unit at lv10. This drastically affects their exp gains which drop quickly at high levels especially on harder difficulties.

    Not joking last time when i said that tharja is really underrated on this list. If she gets two rounds of combat in her joining chapter with gaius to get c support, and give her the secret book and goddess icon, she is capable of clearing out the right side of paralogue 3 by herself averaging 85-95 hit and doubling everything but the mercenary at base. After that she is literally self sufficient in ch 10 onwards with combat only eclipsed by robin and maybe super heavy investment Miriel.

  • @aduboo29

    @aduboo29

    Given the need to drop two stat boosters on her and lock her into a specific support for purely mechanical reasons (which not everybody wants to do) I honestly wouldn't say this puts her that much higher up the list. I'd probably put her above Miriel. Everyone above her at that point either comes online without two stat boosters and a support fairly easily or is ready to go immediately or will naturally progress towards galeforce. Or is a dancer.

  • @gameboyn64

    @gameboyn64

    Жыл бұрын

    @aduboo29 first of all, the secret book and goddess icon aren't in high demand. Skill and luck tend to have diminishing returns after you achieve 100 hit and zero crit so it's unlikely that anyone else is going to want it. She isn't locked into a specific support. Robin, gregor, lon'qu, stahl they all work. Gaius is the best because it's in the fast growth category and requires minimal effort to get to c support. C is attainable in 1 chapter, B is attainable after 2, A after 4 (3 with one sparkling tile), and S after 5 (4 with 2 sparkling tiles). This is compared to other supports that take 2 for c, 3 for b, 5 for a, and 6 for s. Besides every character above her in this list are also highly dependent on their support partners. Panne needs bulk and atk, nowi needs lots of speed, miriel needs lots of speed, cordelia needs speed and atk, sumia needs atk and bulk. There is another thing that boosts tharja. She not competing for the early game exp that the other characters are desperately fighting over. She also doesn't desperately need a second or master seal like the rest of them either. This makes her less resource dependent than just about every character on this entire list. Finally the amount of survivability she has is unmatched by most of the cast. All of the gen 1 character, outside of robin and Frederick, even when trained will struggle to survive multiple rounds of combat while tharja can start to do that almost immediately. Even after you get galeforce on sumia and cordelia, unlike them, she can just go off on her own and trudge ahead. Sumia and cordelia still require you to limit your exposure quite a bit and stick to the pack.

    @@gameboyn64 I know this is from almost a year ago, but I'm trying to beat awakening lunatic. Is there any reasonable build outside of sol/nos-tanking that can be done without super heavy investment? Like something that prioritizes avoid over anything else? I'm struggling on what to do because the game has too many options and not enough time to do it. I'd run out of money before I get the units *I* want to use up to par, and I just can't do my own thing. @@leargamma4912 sorry in advance for the wall of text. You can realistically get by with any build in lunatic. Sol and nos builds are the most popular because they allow you to do absolutely obscene things like neutralizeing an entire section of the map making your life easier to do other things. Other builds typically still do have to adhere conventional fire emblem strategies which can get difficult with the high density and complete lack of defensible terrain. Realistically once you get enough stats anyone becomes functional as the mid game doesn't really scale as fast as your own growth rates. It's pretty hard to do a full avoid build as most of the skills are spread out but most times just a little avoid is usually enough. You are already getting 10 avoid from supports, 15 ish avoid from any speed pair up, and a 15 ish percent chance to nullify all damage. The easiest paths to immediate avoid boosting is to progress through wyvern rider to wyvern lord for tantivy and quickburn. Trickster also has a relatively quick skill for evasion in lucky 7. Another option is to go through 1, 2, or all three of myrmidon, mercenary, and cavalier for their 10 avoid skills. Generally i find you only have the resources to make about 3-6 early game characters work. I typically run paladin/great knight chrom with great knight sumia, Robin with hero cordelia, and sorcerer tharja with a speed backpack. The rest are their kids and various support characters like anna. You have to have patience though when bringing up units as the early chapters are not particularly conducive to raising multiple units quickly. Something to keep in mind is how internal levels work. Internal levels only increase when second seals are used and promoted classes are treated as lv20+displayed. This means that the best time to reclass is when you are lv10 unpromoted and there is no punishment for promoting at lv 20 other than getting your promotion stat buffs later. That being said its usually best to pick a class line and stick with it. It's pretty difficult to get to lv 15 in two promoted classes quickly I find cavalier to be a very solid line with fairly good skills and stats. Great knight has better skills but paladin has better stats. Myrmidon is really only good for vantage which is difficult to make use of early game but can be busted with waste and/or vengeance of the sorcerer line. Mercenary has armsthrift which incredibly good once the mid game hits and patience is decent. The archer classes, especially bow knight for magical units, make for pretty good backpacks. Sniper has a decent niche using the long bow as well, especially because of dual strikes. The flying classes all have good skills and are decent for moving units around however i feel generally uncomfortable using them past the late mid game as combat units due to the sheer number of silver bows everywhere. There also isn't a whole lot of terrain that they are bypassing as time goes on either. Dark mage is probably the most optimized class in fire emblem history. Aoe avoid and crit avoid reduction, reasonable physical bulk, 50 magic avoid, increased damage with hp loss, access to hp restoration; brave magic; high crit magic. I personally don't care for the vaike>robin strategy. The way i typically play awakening is early focus on robin (male spd+ luk-) and once he is sustainable, focus on other units. For chapter 5 i usually have 2 combat pairs, robin with chrom and Frederick with sumia. One pair goes up the other pair goes left while everyone else stays back and help if need be. The goal is basically to get to the middle fort before the wyverns begin to move. If you aren't using robin, you could try going north to the fort with Fredrick paired with chrom or sumia and have everyone else handle the lower section. Lon'qu with vaike is ok. Miriel and virion are also decent to bring along for initiating on enemies. Miriel is also useful to ensure lissa can rescue Maribelle turn one.

  • @jierdareisa4313
    @jierdareisa4313 Жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I remember planning those pairings to gun for the best team for Apotheosis. All the following remarks should be taken with that very narrow goal in mind. Turns out Sumia is probably the best wife for Chrom: passes Galeforce to Lucina and sires a daughter in Cynthia who gets Aether (Aether + Luna on a female do be good). After a fair bit of testing, General turned out to be the most solid class for many physical females, provided they met certain speed benchmarks: +8 Str compared with Hero and +10 with Assassin is far from trivial when you're quadrupling. Even taking half damage from dragonskin into account, that means +16/+20 damage per round... This led me to go the for following pairings: Sumia-Chrom, Lissa-Ricken, Sully-Donnel, Miriel-Libra, Maribelle-Lon'qu, Panne-Stahl, Cordelia-Vaike, Nowi-Henry, Tharja-Gaius, Olivia-Frederick, Cherche-Gregor, Plus_Speed_Minus_Defense_Female_Robin-Laurent. Nah will be the only child who could have Galeforce but won't (there's bound to be at least one) but since she has low speed that's a small issue: she makes a fine support Valkyrie for Morgan... who will have a lot of fun with his 84 Mag and 75 Spd as a Sorcerer. He's the only one who can go nuts to this extent with Vantage + Vengeance + Waste.

I know you also mention if it's hard for a child to get Gale force on their, going through the actual class, but I swear y'all mention passing it down too

    So, is getting 2nd tier LVL. 15 skills like Galeforce by Chapter 14 possible in Lunatic without Early Promoting? That's the only thing that's not clear for me

  • @lanceknightmare

    @lanceknightmare

    I would say yes and no since my recent Lunatic+ run has a Lissa Sage to Dark Flier level 1, S affinity to Kellam at Chapter 12. This is a Lunatic+ run where I distributed the experience well. Robin can get as high as level 8 by the end of the first level which allows for level 10 during the second level. Reliably you will hit level 10 in order to get the ability Solidarity for Robin in Vaike and Miriels joining Chapter 2 far more often. So it is possible with Female Robin to achieve Level 15 Galeforce by chapter 14 without early promoting due to the added experience from the ability Veteran.

    I love Casey's point of view on not only for no grind Lunatuc runs but also some Apotheosis runs as well. The only nitty grindy thing to point out with Inigo is that Vaike is a thing. Inigo will overall have great stats but access to Luna as well. Most of the time I use Vaike or Stahl for the strength and Olivia will give skill and speed anyway. I think he should be in B tier.

    I'd say some of the best Awakaning pairings are: Robin (any version) with Chrom. Very easy to build A/S rank in early chapters. Flier with ground unit, because when Flier is the Primary unit fighting an enemy, the ground unit can atttack on ground in the fight. If you are up against an archer enemy, simply switch to ground unit to avoid bonus damage from enemy (Yes I know there's lotes shield, but thats DLC) Archers can attack close up, as long as they are 2nd unit, whereas the primary unit has a close range weapon (hence why I almost always have Virion as 2nd unit in a pair up) I almost always use pair up in Awakening, its really broken with the only downside being you get fewer turns during player phase.

    I would like to ask Casey for a question I have all the time with Awakening about Robin. What's the best Bane? Because the offensive stads are a no, Skill and Luck Matter because of proc skills and bulk also hurts. What would be good combinations for Robin?

  • @wayward41

    @wayward41

    Жыл бұрын

    Not Casey but I will say that you probably want +Speed or +Def on higher difficulties, and +Speed, +Mag, or +Str on Hard. +Speed is always good for obvious reasons, but +Def on Lunatic allows Robin to hit some really important early bulk thresholds. On Hard, you really just want to boost Speed or your primary attacking stat just to hit late-game damage thresholds more easily. For the Flaw, I'd recommend -Skl most of the time, since realistically procs aren't really impacted very much given how quickly Robin levels up and how many Secret Books are available in the campaign. -Lck can work, but you face low % crit rates the entire early game while also having the same base accuracy as -Skl Robin, so it makes the already-annoying Awakening early game all the more annoying.

  • @wayward41

    also for Merc->Imagination Robin (generally the best build), each point of luck contributes 2% to Armsthrift procs while each point of Skill only contributes 1% to most offensive proc skills (other than Vengeance if you go Sorc), and Armsthrift is also online substantially earlier, so each point of Luck is individually more impactful than each point of Skill in the grand scheme of things

    Most people pair Chrome with Sumia or Robin, right? I can understand Olivia, but I feel like the other two just aren't good options. Also as someone who is biased towards Galeforce, there's two male parents who I always think about, being Donnel and Gaius since they can give Pegasus Knight to female children. Thus I usually pair the two of them and Robin with one of Tharja, Sully, or Nowi, whose kids don't get base Galeforce.

  • @nightwish1453

    @nightwish1453

    actually Olivia is one of the weaker mothers (some argue the weakest only being above the maiden), Sumia is the best as she gives high speed and skill and can basically be magic or physical making them very flexible. Maribelle is the magic pairing which is notable here with magic being really good in awakening, Sully's niche only exists in the base game by having some solid stats to pass down, Kjelle can be pretty good with chrom as her dad. Olivia is pretty bad as for one chrom wants to be with his spouse a lot and pairing a dancer is kind of awkward as chrom will likely never be refreshed, stat inheritance is pretty weak for base game and using inigo in the base game and expecting a lot from him is unrealistic as his paralogue is way too hard to get him early

  • @NarrowSpark96

    @NarrowSpark96

    I can understand Maribelle (though I personally disagree with that build), but I don't really see a reason to choose Sully over the others. Especially considering she is the only mother who lacks Galeforce. Olivia may be bad, but at least she has that going for her.

    @@NarrowSpark96 but with Olivia she severely gimps chrom because of the pair up, you might be pushing on galeforce a bit as it is a level 15 promoted skill and trading that over better stats isn't really an appealing trade at least for base game also there is more of a use with Chrom!Kjelle than chrom!Inigo

  • @NarrowSpark96

    No, I completely agree that Olivia is bad. And it's Galeforce, man... Either way, my issue is that you aren't addressing Lucina here. I'd argue Pegasus Knight is a better class to pass down to female children than Wyvern Rider is. And the differences between stat modifiers aren't that big with Sully and Olivia.
