Isotopes are atoms that have the same number of protons and electrons, but a different number of neutrons. Changing the number of neutrons in an atom does not change the element. Atoms of elements with different numbers of neutrons are called "isotopes" of that element. The atom is the basic building block for all matter in the universe. Atoms are extremely small and are made up of a few even smaller particles. The basic particles that make up an atom are electrons, protons, and neutrons. Atoms fit together with other atoms to make up matter. Protons are tiny particles inside the center of an atom. They they make up most of the weight of an atom, but they are still very small. In fact, if an atom was the size of a baseball stadium, each of its protons would still only be the size of a marble! The electron is a negatively charged particle that spins around the outside of the nucleus. Electrons are attracted to the nucleus by the positive charge of the protons. Electrons are much smaller than neutrons and protons. About 1800 times smaller! In case someone is really for exam here

crash course is like a revision for what you took, thats why its so fast and tries to put as much information in a small amount of time. this should be what you watch before the exam, not what you study from.

Okay, I had to comment. I have been having the hardest time doing Chemistry. I've been having so many breakdowns from it and the book/teacher was just not making sense in any possible way. I would spend hours going over and over my book, again and again, trying to get it and watching video after video and reading article after article. Just to understand. I came over your videos today and I cannot tell you how much I understand now. I feel so incredible. I have been freaking out all day on how much I understand chem now. It all is coming together. And I just wanted to thank you for that. You are seriously not making me want to quit school now.

Thank you again. This from a 47 year old woman who never understood science until I found you! I've watched all you videos and they have helped mr to move one with confidence in the science world. With tears in my eyes I say, thank you.

Whyms you are right is he simplify Isotopes better than my biology book. The schools and colleges books are so complex that the average student cannot understand these books. Thats why some people come to youtube and get tutorials to learn what is written in these books. These books need to be simplify so more people learn.

Everything cannot be simplify but a lot of things in books in school and college need to be simplify so more people can get a better understanding. Things need to change in education. Its time far a Revolution in education.

I wish it was explained this way in class. Most chemistry professors teach as if the students already know the material and they are just refreshing. Thank you for sharing. Pharm, D hopeful!

Finally! Someone who can actually teach me chemistry and me actually understanding. That was a very well thought out lesson plan. Bravo!

Love how these videos were made in 2012, and it's not even JUST the students who rely on Tyler anymore! MY CHEMISTRY TEACHER LITERALLY SHOWS US HIS VIDEOS AS LESSONS!! THAT'S HOW AMAZING HE IS!! THANKS TYLER!!!! YOU ARE SAVING ME FROM COMPLETELY FAILING GRADE 11 CHEMISTRY!! No cause I mean that literally smh I've been sick for basically the past week, so I've missed most of the week. Actually its the same formula. The only difference between water and ice is the bonding between the molecules,the molecules in the ice have stronger bonding,that's what makes it a solid,while in water they have weaker bonding and that's what makes it a liquid.

After 20 years I’m going back to college and needed a biology refresher, something I dreaded because high school biology was tortuous: a combination of not understanding or having interest in the subject and like a lot of young students I thought it was a me problem. Turns out the teachers and the way it was delivered were severely lacking like many US public school systems. After watching many of these videos I’m stunned to learn that I LIKE science excited to learn more. It’s an amazing feeling to grasp these concepts with confidence. Thank you Tyler for your gift of teaching passionately. The world could sure use more teachers like you.
