The most important lesson I learned from John is those microtonal bends like a singing voice, makes solos so much more interesting and soulful

I’m trying, I’m trying to you play from a head vibe - but without actually thinking, which can kill a groove. i’m top of that, singing when you’ve never sung for most of your life it’s hard especially when you have a limited range like me… The wrong key can take me down to the Gravley lower octave and make the tone a very difficult match for the guitar. (OK some point: My Crazy Fingers… sounds like crap Sung low.) i’ll keep working on that pairing, but maybe just get another singer!
