20-year-old Grace Kinstler is one of several front-runners currently competing on season 19 of American Idol. This is not the first time Grace has auditioned for a television talent competition.
When she was 15 years old she tried out for “The Voice” but didn’t make it past callbacks. She then tried out for “American Idol” when she was 16 but never made it in front of the judges.
For her audition, Grace performed “Midnight Train to Georgia” by Gladys Knight & The Pips
After the performance, Judge Katy perry said, “Grace, what a voice.” Judge Luke Bryan asked what her second song would be and Grace replied “Natural woman by Aretha Franklin.
Grace told Chicago’s Daily Herald the decision to audition with the song was meant as a tribute to her dad. I have a video from when I was younger; he videotaped me singing ‘Natural Woman.’ So I was like, it would be really cool to pay tribute to him by singing that song for the audition,”
Before the performance, Judge Katy Perry offered a critique saying,” You’re gonna sing Natural Woman… The legend that is Carole King wrote it, the legend that is Aretha Franklin sang it, you need to sing it like the legend you want to be. Tall order. Don’t phone it in; make me feel it. Sing ‘Natural Woman’ to me like I never heard it before,”
For her second song of the audition. Grace performed Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin.
After the performance, Judge Lionel Richie said, “You actually have control of that amazing instrument.” Judge Luke Bryan told her, “I get brought to tears by stories and backgrounds of what people have been through and their struggles, but this is the first time in four years that just someone’s singing made me cry.” The performance earned yes votes from all three, earning her a golden ticket and a trip to Hollywood week.

Grace really is a star. People oftentimes underestimate how good grace is. Her vocal control is unmatched honestly. She’s always been hard working at everything she does, from naturally losing weight to singing to acting to performing. She is also the most humble and kind soul I’ve ever met. What a lot of people don’t know is that Grace also suffers from Vestibular Migraines which affects her hearing, and the in-ear monitors they gave her triggered it in almost every performance, giving her not only a strong ringing sound in her ears, but also limiting her hearing to only about 50%. Last week she was able to get a different set of in-ear monitors that have been better and allowed her to actually hear herself 90% of the time, hence her amazing performances of Adele and Coldplay. Grace truly is an extraordinary talent who knows exactly who she wants to be. She is inspiring and an incredible hard worker. I don’t know many people at 20 years old that can do what she does. Grace has a talent very few contestants have! It's so pure in honesty & openness. She continues to get more honed like a fine diamond revealing a brillance to light up the world!!

When I first heard Grace in auditions I said the exact thing. She sounds good to me
Grace has always been a winner since I met her at age 13. So proud of everything she has accomplished and overcome.
I do believe she can win and live a good life and knowing how proud her dad would be he is dancing in Heaven go get it it's all yours.

This young lady knows who she is and she knows those pipes can work, and work for her. I just hope she doesn't get let down to hard if she does lose, but if she wins I surely hope she takes it to the stars, but don't get lost in space if you know what I mean. This young lady will go far if she can get the right manager and vocal leader. Any of the 4 can win. It’s not just the voice now. It’s about stage presence, likeability, personality, attitude and the X factor. Grace has the voice, is a beautiful woman, likeable, and a great story about her background. I don’t know about the X factor.

They're all great
She s got a voice and a style that can do anything ! She is not predictable like Mr Raspy voice who thinks he won the title already. Grace seems humble and someone who lives and breathes music and knows to perform well. I Vite fir her. I will always listen to what she s got to sing

Win or lose, she made it to the final 3 and got a chance for the hometown visit which I can't wait to see video on the final show. I can't wait to see her live on her first live tour. She might start out in small venues, which is fine. Her crowd will be old and young. Her voice has a touch of Streisand, Mariah Cary and yes even Celene Dion, but yet has her own unique voice. I can't wait to see her live 😉

There should have been a tie...Grace and Willie. OMG Fantastic voices and could sing anything. Loved Chayce but I only see him singing certain types of songs and he already has a record deal. These other two have voices that are so powerful, incredible ranges and control. What a sad ending to such a magnificent contest. I don't think Idol will ever see performers like these again.
