I thought it would be fun to break down the gear I'll be carrying on Lost Coast Trail later this month! I hope you enjoy!

Done this hike a couple times, bear canister is required and can be obtained at the ranger station.

I carried mine. I have it on most hikes unless I know for sure there aren’t bears in the area.
Are you planning to do a post-trip gear review video (favorite items, items you would swap and for what, items that didn't work for you)? That would be really useful follow-up info for this video!

I hadn’t planned on it mostly because everything worked and I wouldn’t really change anything haha.

I have a few odds and ends to sort out, mostly in my food. But other than that I’m pretty well ready.
I did this hike last year. Walking in the sand was the hardest part.

That’s what I’ve heard. Did you wear boots or shoes?

@@LostAgainwithJim Altra lone peaks with gaiters. Felt like a whole different set of muscles used in sand.

You must have ticks in Nevada, right? Looking forward to your video of this hike. Please take some night video of the night noises for me. ❤️❤️❤️

We do have ticks at lower elevations. In the sagebrush. But I don’t spend a lot of time hiking in those parts of NV to be honest. I’m so close to the high elevation ranges of the Tahoe Basin and Sierras that I spend most of time further west. The only time I’ve really had to deal with them was on the Ruby Crest trail.

@@LostAgainwithJim We have ticks all over the place here in the spring. When warmer weather hits they disappear. I will start spraying my pant cuffs with insect repellent which seems to help, but they also seem to fall from trees, soooo…..what can I say, they’re icky.
Rad! Have an awesome time out there!

Thanks! I’m sure we will!
I did this hike five years ago. It was beautiful. Be aware of the ticks.

Yeah. Long pants and permethrin are the plan
I am really liking that same pad. Sometimes I wish I had gotten the wide rectangle though, because it's a little slim. I was of course trying to trim weight. Sometimes you just gotta go for the wide. Curious how you'll find it. I think it's comfy.

I got the regular as well. I might be in the same boat as you.
Hey man I just landed a lotto permit and will be doing the Mattole to Shelter Cove stretch tomorrow. Just crushed a big snowshoe climb up the Sierra Buttes near Sierra City, have you been up that way? Thanks for the detailed look at your gear!

I have! I hiked the PCT north from Sierra City to Tamarack Lake, and on another trip, I hiked south from Sierra City to Tahoe City. Beautiful area! Enjoy the LCT trip. One of my favorite hikes. I’d love to do it again!

@@LostAgainwithJim Update: LCT was unreal! Funny that what you said about the smell of them seals! My god they reek haha. But yeah man, I grew up south of King Range and spent a lot of time exploring there but never did the full hike. So glad I did. It was just awesome. Totally desolate (I did it solo) aside from a few friendly meetings, great weather, zero wind, and all the wildflowers were in bloom! I'll be subbing to your channel and looking forward to seeing more adventures of yours.
