Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

Not on the wings but at the tail. Wing flaps change altitude. Ailerons change tilt so that one or the other wings dip for better turning like a bike does.

What a wonderful video, Bruce! I love how you always find things I haven't found! My father was an aeronautical engineer who got his love of airplanes flying out of Britain as a navigator in WWII. He taught me quite a bit about it but never mentioned a word about Alexander Graham Bell. I had no idea that he had contributed so much to modern flight! And I see that the press was as awful back then as it is now: I wonder if the fact that Bell's instructions weren't followed to the letter was not conveyed to the public because it would then put the blame on our government's medical handling of the President? So coverups were around even back then! 😁Yikes. Appreciate all the beautiful shots of Canada's Eastern islands. I look forward to seeing more of that beautiful country in your future videos! Y'all take care now! 😊

Yep, after Bell invented the telephone in Brantford Ontario, he patented it in both the UK and the USA, but it was disputed for most of a decade in the USA, so he was forced to move to Washington D.C. After the legal disputes were over he moved back to Canada, to Nova Scotia, where he went on to make inventions that made airplanes durable enough for multiple use, meaning that airplanes became commercially viable rather than being curiosities. A guy named Curtis, who had worked for Bell, stole all the patents and started up Curtis Aeronautics in the USA.

Fascinating story Bruce. You can never rely on medics to do as they're asked😮. I read somewhere a long time ago that Mabel was deaf and the telephone was a by product of research to help her. My grandmother was completely deaf and had never learnt sign language so anything other than basic communication was written. My grandson has slight hearing impairment and has hearing aids which are so small you can hardly see them, I'd like to think Sandy Bell would be extremely happy with hearing aids like my grandson's. Have a great tour.

As for Langley, thank you for talking about him. I knew about him but many people don't. The US Navy's first aircraft carrier was the USS Langley (CV-1) in honor of Langley's research in aviation. The Wright Bros. used a technique called "wing warping" to bank an aircraft. It wasn't as effective as ailerons.

A'reyt Bruce. Bell had a great mind and put it to use to make things better. He had an appropriate name as well. What a great location too. You seemed to love the subject matter. Was there a physics teacher in there, bursting out? I struggled to understand my physics teacher at school, then at university an American student said he saw a note from the physics department asking why I had not taken it as my first subject. I used to hang around with the students from that course, having made friends with one as the first person I met there, but they were friendly and fun, not at all nerdy. Mind you my pal became an accountant and a politician. Hmmm! More stuff like this video might get more to want to study it and go on to make things better?

@ScotlandHistoryTours There is history about castles being burned and rebuilt in Scotland. Do you think colonizers were trying to destroy Scotland history and then covering it up. Second question: were the castles created after colonization or before by the native scots.

Kid that lived next door did that when I was a kid - we had our own private telephone connection ... until my parents discovered that he had it set up so he could eavesdrop whenever he wanted ... !

I thought this video was going to be about his tendencies towards eugenics and discrimination of deaf people (such as promoting oralism over sign language, which lead to an increase in communication difficulties for generations of deaf people).

Is the Bell museum no longer there, or were you not allowed to film in it? Just wondering; I kept expecting to see it.
