Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

83 was s long life then. I'm sure all that knew him remembered him fondly and all that crossed him never forgot.
While I know the story of the Hector, the story of Rory Mackay was new to me. Crossing the Atlantic certainly allowed many Highland Scots the opportunity and bravery to tackle new challenges. Prince Edward Island saw the arrival of the "Alexander' in 1772 --one year earlier with Highlanders from Moidart, Morar and the Isles. Many of their descendants migrated over to Nova Scotia adding many more people of Scottish stock.

Wonderful story telling Bruce! Thanks for sharing. God bless, Rob
As a descendant of Clan Mackay myself, I greatly appreciated this story. Thank you. My own great-great-great-grandfather was born in what is now Manitoba (his father having come over from Scotland sometime before 1820). Charles McKay worked for a fur company that sent him, his wife, and some other families west to what is now the coast of Oregon to establish the fur company there. The company promised the families everything they needed to run farms. When the families got to the area, the fur company seemed to have forgotten its promises. Later, Charles McKay was selected as a representative of the British government to go to a vote at Champoeg, Oregon to determine whether the territory (including what is now the States of Washington and Oregon) would adopt a provisional government with the British or the U.S. This vote was in 1846. Charles McKay and one other British delegate remembered how they'd been treated and voted with the U.S., causing the vote to be 52 to 48 in favor of becoming a territory of the U.S.A. I have been to Charles McKay's grave near Portland, Oregon, next to those of his wife, his son, and his granddaughter. My ears always perk up when I hear a tale involving someone from Clan Mackay. Thanks again for this story.
Nice to see you visiting places I've been & I read all about the Pictou area in a really good book all about The Hector & the people who arrived at Pictou

The agreement with the ship's owners was an impossible situation for the highlanders. The requirement to get the supplies was to cut the trees down and start planting on their individual plots first. They arrived in Pictou in September - too late to grow food. The settlers would have starved before that. I am a descendant of Donald McDonald, one of the men who broke in to the storeroom.

An excellent video ax always but can I ask you a question? It strikes me that you are a true Scottish patriot with a huge interest in history and culture, so have you considered adding your voice to Paul Thorpe's campaign to unite patriots across Britain and Ireland to protect our cultures which are unique and under serious attack? I hope you'll seriously consider my question because we are having our culture and history erased at a frightening rate and if we, the silent majority don't stand up for it our children and grand children will be left with nothing. Your loyal follower and fellow Brit Polly. 😊 Edited to say I hope you have a fantastic 60th birthday. 😊

Shame. I always wonder how the poor Scots felt when they were dropped on the Eastern Cape beaches in the 1820s. There is a toposcope in Bathurst indicating the farm of a family Donkin, and many others. South Africa is really lovely in summer but an Eastern Cape winter can be miserable! I am so sorry. 😢
