What's the MOST important thing you've learned from another leader?

Being a leader means putting yourself in front of the people you are leading, to lead is to be willing to take the punches so the team doesn't, and to be able to sacrifice yourself so that others will not need to sacrifice. Leadership is more than its privileges, it is a responsibility to others and if we only have a heart for ourselves we cannot be good leaders.

to listen more than speak, and when you do, to be intentional with your words. And more than that, to be sensitive to what the Holy Spirit wants to do in the moment over being precious about the plan you had yourself 💙

First and foremost pastor John, I love you my brother…and so grateful for you and your life in Christ. The bait of satan so strengthened my walk and kept me aware of the scheme of the devil and kept free from offense in ministry and life in Christ till today. I, my friends and my close family(including brothers and sisters in Christ) have eaten from the fruit of that wisdom. Thank you! To answer in a word to your question, intimacy/friendship with Jesus, not to serve, to be used(gifted), BUT to simply be His. Like a bride who married her husband to simply be joined to them…to simply get to know Him more deeply for herself. Not for what she gets from him cuz they are married, nor how she gets to do things for Him…but she is simply married to Him for Him. If that’s is supreme within the relationship I believe anyone can endure to the end in love. Everything else(gifts, ministry, life lived on earth) is just the natural by product of our intentional focus and devotion to Love, Himself. Psalms 27…to behold the beauty…❤️‍🔥

I'm not sure I agree with this. Preaching the Word of God is no small task. There is nothing more terrifying than speaking wrongly about God or His word. A preacher that does not fear God is on a very dangerous path. I have known preachers who are nervous before every single message, even after forty years of preaching. I suppose I could concur with this if the thing that makes you nervous is the approval of men. But if you move away from the fear of man to NOT having the fear of man, that is only making it part of the way. "Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness." (James 3:1). The OT is full of references to God's displeasure with those who lie about His character and His word. The pulpit is not a place of comfort.

I have been reading Fear of God for weeks now, on week 5. I believe John means that in the act of serving he doesn’t feel a need to be pleasing any man but being pleasing unto the father. His holy fear is still there , ever present in his life. That line resonated a lot because even as a performer the nerves literally come because of who is watching but as I developed I notice this is a gift and now im serving 🙏🏾

This is so true, and I’m speaking from experience. I worship lead at church but when I was using my own strength and focused on the performance aspect more than the worship itself I had a lot of fear and if I messed up I would beat myself up for it but when I chose to surrender and just worship God the fear faded away because it was never about me or my strength but God and what He’s doing through me to speak to the audience, I’m just a vessel so I don’t need to worry I just need to surrender. I hope that this speaks to someone ❤️ bye😊

As a minister and a preacher, I’ll admit I have approached preaching as performance…so when people tell me how the message blessed them, I feel seen. When I don’t get the feedback I feel disheartened. It’s very easy to think the platform is the goal. Thank you for this podcast, it has convicted me and has brought necessary course correction in my heart.

One of the things that I am honored to say about the Beveres , particularly John and Lisa, they never came out to the public as celebrity ministers. Unfortunately, we have to admit that as believers we are to be blamed for creating celebrity preachers and now it has become a problem because we created a status for them that made them untouchable, unreachable, and very elite minded, and forget who they truly are - as servantservants of the Lord. We have ministries That have created a title for themselves and their wives being called First Lady “ and titles that elevates themselves walking with bodyguards, etc. it’s very sad to see and witness it.

So I went back to my night devotion which I had skipped for a few months. Then I heard an almost audible voice say; "THAT'S IMPORTANT" And now hearing you speak of so many people that have fallen away for not abiding in the word the Bible. I am so glad God has kept this widow he certainly has kept me close, as I keep him close abiding in his word, and in prayer. 📖🙏🙌 And praise.❤📖

I love this podcast with dad and son. It is true, you don't get nervous if what you're doing is in service. I've played the piano over 50 years and I can tell you, I used to get nervous until my daddy told me, it isn't to please the congregation, it is worship to Jesus and preparing hearts to hear the Word of God. As long as I humble myself to my Heavenly Father, what He hears will be pleasing to Him.

John, I remember you from that ministry, my pastor from 1979 to 1997, although final years were spent in intercession, mainly. This ministry started out with such a sweetness, the early days in the warehouse were awesome, seeking God. I learned so much, was filled with the Holy Spirit and fire there under Charles and Frances Hunter after having given my life to the Lord a few weeks earlier, also there. Many ministries were birthed during this time. I remember seeing you holding TL Osborne's coat and the Holy Spirit spoke in my heart telling me you would rise to a great ministry, because of your humbleness of heart. The Lord gave me a vision of the future of that place and ministry around 1982 during a service with Norvel Hayes. It shook me, but was not given permission to share, only pray. He had a heart for God, I pray that hunger returns.

I started this episode a little while ago and just finished it today. I have been saved since I was a little girl and consider myself to have been walking with the Lord for the last, at least, ten years....but God, today revealed in me the selfishness that has been keeping me in bondage. John, I have the want to call you pastor because I want to honor you, you have just pastored and fathered me in a way that only Holy Spirit can do with a willing vessel. I am in tears because of how beautifully you've walked your life out as a servant. I have wanted to fully submit my life to God but have been missing something and it is this first part of the verse y'all couldn't get past! Lord make me a servant and help me to live all of my days just like that, serving You and serving people.

Two people can be doing the same thing, one can be sinning one can be glorifying God. It's the heart and motives in which we do things. One focused on serving and honoring God will not be concerned with numbers or influence. God is the door opener and closer it's His ministry. The position is at completely different ends of the spectrum. SERVANT VS LEADER one is striving for the top, but the servant is striving to be last, not concerned with where they sit at at the table. Hence Jesus.... Love going your way. Thanks for your Godly wisdom John.

I was about to exercise and tune into KZread music but ended up listening to your Podcast, so I listened and watched, then trained after while listening to your podcast again - I've NEVER trained without music till today. Ended playing it a third time and now a fourth. " _When we in the word we're actually in prayer_ " " _When is the easiest time to pull a plant out of the ground is when it's young?"_ I also heard with my ears how social media is a tool, you're so right. Although shouldn't we practice Romans 14:1 "As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him but not to quarrel over opinions." I also LOVE how you John and Lisa are accepting your elder age, it shows the action of humility by allowing your natural white hair to grow. Whenever I am looking for a wise person, I go by what the Bible leads me to and that is by going to those whose hair is white. Those with white or grey hair from age are clear markers to me that they are for God, elders of self-control and disciplined, it's clear you've died to yourself on a daily basis and your hair and your slimness shows the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did say we'll know them by their fruit. You're of the good tree and the Beveres have corrected and helped me navigate my way to that narrow path. Better open rebuke of a friend then a kiss of the enemy. Any elder who covers their white hair tells me of their maturity. So thank you for following the Holy Spirit and putting Christ first. It's a relief. Arden did bring some interesting points about how media is attractive now due to social media but it all boils down to the agenda of the heart and the right character and to whom and why we're on the platform in the first place. I will remember "If I'm serving, I don't get nervous." Staying focused on Jesus does remove those self-centeredness of the "I".

Thank you, John B and son, so much for this vital message that goes to the root of the desire for the "fame game" in ministry. Allowing for the divine litmus test, a heart-revealing test to uncover motives, God can then deal and heal roots of self-deception and narcissism. Jon B your teaching today grants the freedom to give themselves permission to become humble and authentic and fulfilled in ministry in Him and ONLY for His glory. ✝🌎🌏🌍

Now make Him Lord, give Him your life, all of you. Then ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:38-39. The Holy Spirit is our Helper/Paraclete, Teacher, Comforter, Guide, and will open the Word of God to you and give you a hunger for more. God bless(make whole and holy) you.

Thank you for such a good discussion and reminder on the topic so relevant to all who is serving in the Christian ministry. The most important component is the heart and motives of the person serving. ❤️

❤LOVE❤ LOVE ❤LOVE this.!!! John, are you nervous before speaking to 10,000 people? "No. If I'm nervous it's about performance. If I'm serving, I don't get nervous." SO GOOD! Your focus is either your self or others. Can't be both.

John I love you and Lisa. Always have. This is my first time catching a podcast. I don’t think we’ve heard enough from Arden during this podcast. I was interested in some of his thoughts that weren’t completed.
