this is what i actually realized in college while reading Deep Work. In an 8 hour work that you would do only 2 or 4 hours of it is the only time where youre making actual focused work, usually. there will be instances that you can work in a really focused and meaningful way past that, but its rare, and people who can do it regularly more than 4 hours are just special. so i guess its a good reminder that if you feel like youre just slogging after doing concentrated work for at least 2hrs or 4, most times what youre doing above that is just busywork, in the sense that you have already expended your focus juice.

Whenever I get some free time, I end up wanting to draw something that looks nice and implement it into something interactive. I suck at drawing, and my coding isn't good either, so I end up giving up after a few hours. But somehow I keep finding channels like yours, with people that create awesome things and I keep trying again. Although I never really get anything done, your channel motivates me to keep going back to it as a hobby until one day I make something interesting and fuctional.

Remember this the next time you feel like giving up. "You did not fail, you simply found a way it did not work.". With that mindset, you can keep trying until it works. With Game Development, that's all this is. Trying until you succeed. You can do it, I believe in you.

I'm glad you promoted the act of walking. I walk an hour every day as well. We live sedentary life styles that we're not meant for. Start every day with a long walk, listening to a podcast, lecture or audio book.

There was a recent study that showed that not having any interruptions while walking (e.g. podcasts etc) boosted your creative thinking, meaning that that could be a great time to come up with more interesting mechanics and ideas.
I like your realistic attitude towards indie dev. You see all these other youtuber's working 25 hours a day, 8 days a week on their games and it really gives off an unhealthy expectation as to how you should manage your time. The little things you mentioned such as being on zoom with family, getting carried away talking with friends shows the correct, healthy attitude that all aspiring devs should aim for. Glad you're seeing the success you are.
Your course taught me how to model and texture retro graphics inside blender, thank you sm. - A complete beginner
Title says 8 hours but we only got 21 minutes. Smh 😤😤😤
i’m obsessed with your channel dude! notifs always one
"When you spend two hours editing video, and you only manage to get a minute done, you know it's gonna be a slog...This video better get a million views" As a video editor myself...I felt that in my bones.
Thank you for the 2 hours a day comment, anytime I don’t hit 4 or 5 hours a day I end up beating myself up over it
You've really opened my eyes. No more 8 hours a day after after my day job, more sleep, daily walks and visiting the Gym.
Fun fact, there is a html variant for VR websites. something like 6-7 years ago there was a vr app called janus vr, they created their own markup language called janusXR. Haven't seen anything new in a while about it, but it still exists as far as I'm aware

That was a good video, I enjoyed it.
you and Louis Rossman have been the better influences in my own self-work. I really need these readjustments, because I either try to overdo it and get nothing done, or do nothing and get nothing done.
Watching casually explained, love that guy.
The thing I miss most after having to move back in with family is having the freedom and privacy to work in this sort of way. I can't just wake up and get straight to work on a day I feel like doing that. I have to fit my work time, eating schedule, etc around my family's. No longer having the flexibility that I used to makes it very hard to stay motivated. If you have that freedom, don't waste it. Look after yourself, keep yourself busy without wearing yourself out, and get your game made while it's the best time to do it. Don't do what I did and put it off until you have to do it on hard mode.

This was an excellent video man. Keep it up, seriously.

ngl man these videos are super inspiring. This is what getting the bag actually looks like, just a normal fucking person doing what they like and cranking a product out at the end of the day. No fake hustle, no #grindculture to mask a lack of direction. Just getting shit done and enjoying yourself along the way.
your video made to stop hustling myself, i was thinking about it lately, thanks, dude
This video has a really good message. Thank you!
This was super insightful. I hope one day my work pays off so that game making can sustain me with out burn out!
1996 VR manual is nuts! Your overall books selection is cool. More!
I know this is a totally new style of video for you. I think it turned out really well. I hope to maybe see something similar in the distant future.
YESS So hyped for next four devs jam!
Really cool video, i like how you do your routine and im also getting slowly into indie game dev. Learning 3d modelling now. I haven't played Rought Flesh yet but it looks really good! I need to play it when i will be able to. The intro sequence with the space capsule u made looks great and fits withe the style of the game. I do have an idea about it tho - when the camera zooms on the planet it would be cool to see the zoom go on longer - from the whole planet being in view to going in closer over cloud level, then over a continent, and then over the area where it lands. Bcs the planet is so big it would take a while to get there at that speed. Great work man!
This is extremely encouraging!
forever the best. love that shared what you do without perpetuating hustle culture.
I love this. Good job!
Dropping another comment to say thanks. I know the intention wasn’t for it to become a #motivator video, but for where I’m at and looking to be as an indie comics artist, this was very inspiring.
wow 2 whole hours? One day I'll be able to concentrate that long
Interesting idea to do 8 hours a day. I've recently found that style of working does suit me quite well. I more say by 8pm as long as I've got stuff done in the day, I'm fine to "clock out" at that time
This was so helpful to hear

You are really talented, I hope you get a small team one day.
I'm sooo happy you can live that 2h/day life ♥ Self care and especially personal time are what we live for, and you still can achieve sooo much while working less
Excellent book collection !
It might be a good idea to make another video just about books you’d recommend.

Cool. Good experiment, can definitely see the five hours for five days straight being a workable balance. For building gaming and game design eBook collections I definitely recommend HumbleBundle. Nice food selections, congrats on healthy living and exercise. We just picked up a combination toaster oven and air fryer, great for bringing life back to day old sweet potato fries.
Appreciate the book recommendations!
I really enjoy this kind of stuff
Smart guy. Cool video!
that title screen looks amazing
great video man
Yo dude, I like your book collection. A lot of those books were things I've read or would typically read.
The VR HTML thing - that was totally a thing. It was called VRML. I remember learning about it in the late 90s/early oughts at a computer camp, even then it seemed mostly limited to academic and experimental use but the idea of loading a web page and getting immersed in a 3D environment was pretty incredible. I was much more interested in MUDs and whatnot than VRML - they had so much more utility and much richer content than clunky 3D.
Lost Relic Games would love this gritty realistic dev log. Not a radish garden in sight either!
Beautifull snow and that view. I could just work and look at snow eating pizza.
You need to make one where we go with you for the whole day! Love this video btw!
Love this guy so much.
Hey, Audacity is good but it's very slow to work with. I would recommend you check out Reaper for audio recording/editing, because it's lightweight, fast, customizable and basically free. Anyway great vid!
Thanks for breaking dogmas really helpful
Hey bud, Andrew Huberman (Neuroscientist) talks about strategies backed by his research and data that suggest 90 minutes of pure work/focus is an ideal amount of time (15-30 min ramp up followed by 60 min pure focus and then 15-30 min cool down). He suggests working optimally people might be able to accomplish these 90 min sessions twice a day, usually one time in the morning and then again in the late afternoon/evening. Agree with you, the whole crunch time thing is rediculous and probably unproducitve ultimately. I think 3-4 hours of work a day is realistically accomplishable, even your 5-6 might be a stretch!
thank you for being so real
one thing i never considered until now is that 8 hours of work a day only leaves you with 8(probably 6) hours of free time in the rest of you day. Assuming you also sleep for ~8 hours.

Worse with school. I have school for 7 hours(there is a 1 hour break, so 6 hours), then I have to sleep 9 hours, and then study like 3-4 hours a day near exams. Nor necessarily worse as school is a bit more fun, but given I'm only 14, seemsike I should have more free time on my hands

RE: The VR HTML thing you mentioned. VRML was used as a 3D object format for some old metaverse/social apps. There's a more modern framework that's similar called A-Frame that makes it super easy to make 3D/VR scenes on the web :)
