Flight tip: If you are given the option of a "western" and traditional meal on an airline, always choose the western one when leaving the airport, and the traditional one when coming back. The food is prepared at the country you leave from, so you'd want to choose the meal that makes sense from where it was prepared!

I used to be a wedding photographer in San Diego...out of the 400+ events I covered I would have to say that my first Ethiopian couples wedding was one of the more memorable ones... Both the bride and the groom were over 2 hours late for the vows :) :) But after the formalities the entire wedding party and guests went over to Mission Bay Park where the families had set up a few small tribal style tents facing out into the bay... 3 of the tents were dedicated to food and the 4th was reserved for the bride to greet family and friends for short personalized visits... They had also arranged some musicians...they played traditional drums and some odd looking wind and string instruments. The weather was perfect (San Diego), the guests wore super colorful clothing, the music had everyone dancing until the police came by and told us the park was closing, but for me...the food was the highlite of the day...I don't even know what I ate mostly but...the flavors were all fantastic IMO. Those photographs were some of my favorites during my 24 year "career" ...:) :)

My happiest memory of my honeymoon was Ethiopian food. My husband and I found a tiny restaurant close to our hotel and it was our first time trying traditional Ethiopian food. We love cultural food and was so taken by the food and staff that we ate there 3 times in one week. We never found another truly authentic restaurant again once we returned home. We returned 5 years later happy to find that they still existed and enjoyed the food that gave us so much joy!

Ethiopian Airlines! I have memories of going on an Ethiopian Airlines 707 in 1979 (or 1980?) when I was 7 years old. I was travelling with my mum and brother from London Heathrow to Rome via Paris. Due to a bomb scare the flight was delayed for 24 hours. Strange, though being so young and loving planes at such a young age, I loved the flight and the delay. For years I remembered the beautiful colours and the planes interior including the seating. Around the middle of the plane, 6 seats on both sides were facing each other with a table in between (some passengers therefore flying backwards). Amazing memories..

Ethiopia is by far my favorite place to visit. The food, the people, the country, all beautiful. I was spoiled by the food, and even the best Ethiopian restaurants here (I've been to many...East Coast mainly) don't compare...some have come close. However, we have long time Ethiopian friends/family here in the states, and in their home is THE ONLY place that gives the same taste and quality. It is like in Ethiopia, it is all "homecooking" no matter where you go. I miss it so.

Ethiopian food is like drugs. It’s addictive 😍 Also, the Mitmita is probably heroin with Cayenne pepper, otherwise I can’t explain why I keep eating it despite not loving spicy food so much. 😍🤣 And injera is a miracle onto itself. It’s so chewy and cloudy because the doe is left to ferment for several days and the pancake ends up being airy and gluteny - but the original grain (Teff) is absolutely gluten free. My first time eating Ethiopian I thought I’d be in pain afterwards from all the bread and spicy food, but I felt light and got hungry again pretty soon. It turns out it’s the most hypo-allergenic food ever. The only down-side is that the companies who sell both injera and the Teff flour tend to stuff is with other things. So sometimes your injera might come with some percentage of wheat flour, which is justified as “westerners might like it more that way” - but in fact, unless the injera is badly fermented - it’s the best doe ever and no additives needed. And the four - they add sand to it, either that, or they don’t wash the grain before milling it..so as much as I used to love Teff flour, I stopped eating it because I was tired of crunching sand… And the meat dishes (all the watts 😍), and the simplest thing, like Gomen (which is a specific green they eat, but you can make it with almost any collard green. It just tastes like it was freshly picked and healthy… and it’s al Liron the spices and cooking method. And the potato dish that I forgot the name of. Just some comforting potato (probably cooked in ghee), with turmeric. That you put on the injera after the spicy foods. And the red lentils… Omg. Just go try Ethiopian and you won’t regret it. (But bring your own sanitary wet napkins and toilet paper, the toilets in Ethiopian restaurants I’ve been to are… well… scary).

Despite what the media so often portrays, this show proves that if one can respect differences and see them as an opportunity for growth/adventure, we’d ALL be better as a planet! 🌎

Just for a tip, you can come here after like 6 or 7 weeks because we Ethiopians are gonna be celebrating our version of Easter & you can be able to experience a good culinary tradition that mostly involves meat as the cristian people will be fastening /no meat👀/ for 2 months before Easter. Anyways if your thinking of coming to Ethiopia then that's the right time to do so since you can be able to experience the whole shebang.

Looking forward to your Zimbabwe videos. Have never been, but it's on my list. Ethiopia, and its food, is amazing. Hope you have a chance to actually spend time there sometime in the future. Oh, and they didn't forget your bags. With barely any time between your connecting flights, there was no way they were going to be able to get your bags from one plane to the next before it took off. Hope they showed up promptly on the next flight.

Love Ethiopian Food injera with Mild split peas, spicy chicken is my favorite food, unlike other grains like wheat, barley, and rye, teff which commonly beak the flat bread injera is gluten-free. This makes it a good choice for people who have Celiac disease or are sensitive to gluten. It can substitute for other flours that contain gluten, like regular wheat flour.
