This girl has no idea how sweet she has it. A whole high rise to yourself, in Seattle in your 20s early 30s. It's not even the apartment, it's the experience. Very few people get that kind of freedom and opportunity in their prime years. Enjoy it, you'll miss it dearly. ♥️

Shelby, your place looks so chic and inviting. I love that it's not cluttered and super minimal and clean.
One of the major benefits of living in hi-rises is the amenities that they usually provide (gyms, exclusive restaurants/bars, shared work spaces, pools, etc.). If you were to get memberships to all those different places, it could sometimes justify the higher rent cost. The other benefit of course is those views (11:31) on those lucky days when you are literally living above the clouds! ⛅ You did a great job with the interior design and warming up the place to make it feel less "industrial/commercial" and rather like a home. Looking forward to your new adventure in buying a property of your own.
@LordVelari
Жыл бұрын
I lived in one of those glorified cages before. The fact is, very few residents of these buildings actually use the on-site amenities (just go to the gyms/pools and count how many residents are there). People are so busy working (and depressed) that they hardly got the mood to do anything recreational, and when they do, chances are they want to go out of the building to feel a bit of a break. The gyms attached to apartments are seldom satisfactory. To avoid liability, they usually do not have heavy weights in case of injury. If you wanna go there and do some yoga stretches? Fine. Want to boost your max in bench press or deadlift? Better find a real gym. The shared workspaces sounds nice, but they typically come with additional costs. One of the apartments I lived in had this super fancy workspace, but to book it for a group (anything more than 2 people) is an extra $500/hour. In that regard why wouldn't anyone go to WeWork or a library and book it for $50/hour? Restaurants/bars are two situational, so I wouldn't say they are all great or bad, but typically liviing in an apartment building above wouldn't give you much real discount or exclusive rights to access, since no owners are against more customers. In general I think these apartments are nothing more than a golden bird cage - cool for experiencing for a while, and the prestige boost that comes without it. But in the long run, it's not worth it to rent, and certainly not worth it to own (the very limited property rights and the crippling HOA fees would be another chapter)
I really enjoyed this video. Loved seeing Pikes Place and I hope you have gone to the library which is beautiful. Thank you for sharing Shelby!
Congrats on the new place...Can't wait for the next vlog with the new unit fully furnished!!!
I used to live in Pioneer Square and had an expensive studio with a waterview. I also built a full size kitchen table inside my apartment. For $5,500 I would get out though and just have a nice house across the lake in Kirkland, Bellevue, or Issaquah
Love the personal sharing - space heater, using your phone while eating and the picture for the bathroom. 😂
Loved this video!! The apartment is soooo nice! And great insights to the city!

Such a good video! You are sooo good at getting high quality shots. Also I LOVE your hair in this video 😍
Shelby, this was a great video that truly highlights what the cost of living in Seattle is like. While it is expensive compared to many other places, I think something people dont understand is that you are really paying for the conveniences and desirablity of living Downtown. I really resonated with your points about the walkability and bikeability of the city center, and how you don't need a car because everything is within reach. But I also wanted to mention something I've noticed about downtown over the past few years. Since COVID hit, it's been a bit of a different scene - more vacant apartments, shuttered offices, and unfortunately, a noticeable increase in homelessness and crime. It's a sad shift, but cities are tough, you know? I'm really hopeful though, because downtown Seattle is starting to bounce back. More folks are moving back and tourists are slowly returning, and that's going to help make it safer and more lively. We just gotta stick it out. As for your move to the Townhouse, it sounds super smart financially. Living with Monica in a place you own is a big win. But, you're probably going to miss the luxury of walking or biking to everything. That's the trade-off, I guess. Suburbs and townhouses have their own vibe and charm though. Anyway, best of luck with your move! Can't wait to see your new place in your next videos. Take care, -Ben
Thanks for the tour! Really nice table Shelby!
Thanks for sharing, we can’t wait to see the new apartment
I'm moving into this building next month, super excited!
I’m visiting Seattle over Memorial Day weekend! You and Monica have so many local recos I can’t want to try!
Piroshky Piroshky is amazing! I stop every time. And you nailed the rain. It’s more gloomy than rainy all the time. People think it rains way more than it actually does.
So awesome to live that close the market. When I first lived in Seattle I was in Belltown, so the market was walkable, but it felt like an outing. Would have been so nice to be closer. I'm glad to see that a lot of my favorite shops are still there.
So much info , i been to Seattle once in January it rain every freaking day , love cool cloudy foggy weather though.
ugh so sad you’re moving from that beautiful place 😢 but glad you’re sticking around seattle! seriously you and monica are a huge reason why i moved here. monica’s videos specifically made me fall in love with this city. also thanks for not shooting b-roll of the homeless/users. i work for a non-profit downtown and those are my people. i would’ve been really sad to recognize their faces exploited for a youtube video. it’s little things like that that make you a wonderful influencer!
We were in Seattle for the first time a couple of weeks ago and the weather was perfect. We walked from our hotel down to the Market and all around trying out stuff.
Beautiful high rise condo! Its too big for me, I don’t need all that room and at the quoted cost, seems more of a fit for a couple than for a single person. Thanks for the tour! 😊
Can we talk about how incredible it was that you had a parking spot included? I live in a suburb of Seattle. I’ve never had parking included in rent. It’s always more and you are lucky to get 1 spot per unit.
Loved getting to see your neighborhood. I think the surroundings of home is my biggest pro or con…rather than the interior of the home I’d look at living in.
I remember that Monica showed this apartment before you did a year ago lol... and now your moving again, for the fourth time since I started following you :)
8:37 my training video when I was a teenager working at build a bear was these guys at this fish market, and how we need to learn to “play at work” and have fun with customers! So funny seeing them in your Vlog.

The coolest thing about that apartment are the appliances are hidden by giving the feel they are just cabinets.
Wow! It's a beautiful condo and I've enjoyed watching you living your life in this great space! Actually if one can split the rent, it's not that bad with all you get.❤
Love your videos! I live in Seattle and I’ve been looking for an entry table like this for months and and I think it time to make my own. 😂
I've always loved the views from that condo. But seeing how bike-able the area is really has me wanting to visit the west coast. Could you talk about the projector set-up a little more, please? I'm intrigued.
I’ve definitely driven by your building when I visited Seattle that so funny!!
That console table is impressive!
First time I see an european kitchen in the US! Lovely house Shelby!
Your space was stunning Shelby and man that walkability is everything!! I just recently moved to a great spot in LA with amazing walkability as well and let me tell you, it is a game changer to not have to take your car everywhere. Thanks for taking us along and sharing your space, it looked like a really great one to be in for the last year 😊

Seattle has a heavy Nordic population ( and museum) many in the early 1900s moved to Seattle because it reminded them of home. Fishing and mountains
When I am in town I stay at Embassy suites, I love the views especially at dusk… one of the best urban views on the west coast. Seattle gets a bad rap but its nothing like Portland or SF which I am very accustomed too. There was a person freaking out in-front of the hotel and we just ignored him, he wasn't bothering me or anyone else. Just yelling and screaming….
Walkability is a huge factor for me. Idk if you've checked out downtown Boston (Back Bay, Theater District, North End, etc.), but it's amazingly walkable too.
Great content love your channel ❤
Really nice video!!
No view is amazing enough to trade off for the beautifully safe feeling of being grounded to Earth
Last week I went to Seattle for the first time. What’s good about the drugs and homeless in Seattle compared to Europe is that they’re all in 1 or 2 streets in downtown (west lake and 3rd/cherry street). In London or Paris they’re more spread out and less predictable and bother the entire city.
I love Seattle. The ferry boats and restaurants on the ocean piers when it's sunny is such a VIBE
Another good one!! 🙌

Shelby, you forgot to mention the wonderful amenities in your building! The gym and pool! Though it was a bit pricey. I have seen some in L.A., going for $10,000.00 or more! You pay for the views, convenience, and safety! The shops and stores are amazing; at your Condo! Unfortunately, every city has bad areas! Be watchful and safe! I look forward to your next move in video! 👍💯 Shelby, where is Sam? 👍😅
Wow. Nice furnitures
Whats crazy is that I live in Phoenix which is decently walkable depending exactly where you live, its a huge city, but all of our expenses for a couple including gas, car, rent, bills, literally everything is under $2000...We own our home so it's definitely different than renting, but renting instead of owning would still put us under $4000 per month. I guess you would factor in the better weather, the high rise view, and just the fact that it's a more expensive state to live in...5,700 a month isnt bad. Its kinda cool to see the comparison :)
I see links for most items - thank you so much! I didn't see a link for the beautiful black marble lamp on your entry table. Can you share any info about this lamp or where to purchase?

Visiting a city like Seattle I highly recommend not getting a rental car! Like she says in the video the city is so walkable and there’s tons of the scooters you can rent for cheap. Thanks for noting that downtown Seattle is just like every downtown and has its problems. I lived there in 1994 (when I was about the same age as you are now! ) to 2000 and it was always the way it is now, as far as homelessness and drugs. I remember it was often sketchy for me walking around there but I loved going to the market and to the waterfront and just all the conveniences of downtown. I miss it a lot. I moved back to the Edmonds area when I got married and had kids. I try to get there as often as I can. I worked there for a long time so I loved getting to see it that way but I still miss being able to walk everywhere so easily and I was in great shape! So hopefully downtown Seattle will recover again from whatever people say is wrong with it, which I believe is exaggerated! Great video and best wishes on your new place and hope you find a great fixer upper to live in soon!
