I have a pair of 12.2s, Elac Debut 2.0 6.2's on the cheaper flank, and a pair of Polk R200's on the higher end all lined up in my listening room right now. The clock is ticking on which ones to keep vs. return. When I am almost ready to send back the Wharfedales, I hear a track with which these speakers truly shine. Percussion. Synth. Acoustic Guitar. Piano. Bass. Male Voices. It comes down to this for me: It's a very special speaker for rhythmic music, country music and male acoustic music. It excels at reproducing TV and soundtracks. Not airy enough on the high end for jazz or classical for my tastes. It sounds "limited" in the 8k+ range, in the electronic sense. But when bombs are dropping or Law And Order is going "duh-dung", the 12.2s are in their zone. I think I'll keep them.

Interesting you mention the weight. I recently picked up a pair of Klipsch 600-M online based mainly on your reviews. I was swapping out a set of 5.25 Polk RT bookshelfs. The Polks are built like a tank. I was worried about my purchase when the larger Klipsch were lighter. Well, weight isn’t everything. No comparison in the sound. Thanks Steve. I enjoy your channel and appreciate your willingness to serve the entry level audio enthusiast. I can certainly afford the higher end stuff, but I’m very happy in the value sweet spot.

Posted this on another channel hope it helps folks out: i just bought a 12.2 and love it! Thats a huge compliment as my current stable has Kef LS50, Focal chora 816, sonus faber cremona auditor. All at far higher price points. I bought it because it can give me something my other speakers cannot. A warm and relaxed sound that is tonally well balanced and not too exagerated. Sure it can’t match the accuracy and speed of my other speakers but the warm sound can keep me in bliss and listen far longer (and fall asleep on the sofa). What suprised me the most is that the sacrifices in speed, accuracy and top end air is fairly small so am really pleasantly suprised how good budget speakers are these days!.

@GeneralCurtis3LeMay I don't really believe in the sound of "British construction". A thing is a thing, it can be assembled in Mars and it still will sound the same. The brand belongs to IAG. And measurements proof that they know what they are doing. For now I use Wharfedale 230 and I'd call them a speaker where middle frequencies are it's bread and butter. British sound is basically "good sound". Maybe also "mellow sound" cause of the well known "BBC dip".

@GeneralCurtis3LeMay Do you realize that there is such a thing as technology? I have lots of things that is made in China, a really high-tech stuff. Like optics, processors etc. It doesn't matter where stuff is made, if technologically they are made to the same tolerances and QC. I'm perfectly fine with Chinese made products, I have a problem with Chinese tyranny but that is a different story... Lots of manufacturers have Chinese factories nowadays, BW and KEF are perfect examples of high-tech mechanical stuff. And China is not what it was used to be, it's starting to be a technological pioneer, for example my Godox strobes are IMO better than European and American offerings, so are DJI drones. Even Tesla is building a plant there, and they say that Chinese engineers will make their own Teslas. Your thoughts are dated IMO.

@GeneralCurtis3LeMay I say what I think. Being friendly is not my top priority. I try not to be rude but what I'm doing on this page is not your business. You can start your own channel and then say who can speak there and who can not. I don't care about all that Soviet goodies BS, that's from another era, from a fake era by the way, and being Russian I can say that 99.99% of soviet goods were horrible with QC, they are not even close to my Wharfedales that I partly disassembled and I was amazed by how good they are made inside for that price. I've had some famous Soviet speakers and they are as bad as it gets. They sound horrible and they are ridiculously bad in terms of craftsmanship. As I've said, British sound is just an acronym kinda for a good sound basically and the famous BBC dip is part of it. Take care!

I had a lifetime license but I moved to the subscription version. Light processing is the best setting. As most of you know there is no better service than youtube for "live" recordings. I have been to at least 250 concerts dating back to 1966. I saw almost everyone. I saw Cream I passed up "Band of Gypsy's at the Fillmore East. due to a snowstorm on New Year's day in NYC. I was at the closing weekend at the Fillmore with the Allman's and I saw Led Zeppelin's second tour of the U.S at the Singer Bowl. To me live music is the magic.

At the moment I have a JBL extreme 2 but I hate having all the sound in one speaker and no sound stage and the sound is either full of bass and too little trebble or too much which is why I want to go back to an old school set up like I had in the 90s . I want physical volume and treble and bass knobs and speakers that can be separated and are flexible so I can turn them up when the neighbors are out and not disturb people if everyone is home. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I have a Diamond 8 surround 7.2 system with 8.4's as the front that I use as 2-channel stereo to listen to music. You nailed the description. Wharfedale Diamond's have a specific sound that is very, very, very British. The highs are clean but not pronounced. The lows are full and tight. The mids are like buttah. This is the deal with British loudspeakers. They might not be for everyone but if you are going after the high production value type sound grounded in the BBC they could be for you. Wharfedale Diamond's have always been an extremely high value. You really do get an awful lot for your money.

Steve thank you, I'm seriously considering these for a new tiny home. There's an interesting connection - they are designed by Karl-Heinze Fink who recently stepped in to finish the last job his friend Ken Ishiwata started but died before completing. This was going to be a special edition Rotel A11 and CD11 series that KI was putting heart and soul into after mysteriously parting ways with Marantz. He got as far as approving prototypes apart from some minor changes he thought they still needed. Then he died. Now the series has been named Tribute (A11 Tribute and CD11 Tribute) with a Japanese character placed on the front that translated means something like 'respect' or maybe 'reverence'. It's kind of a shame on Marantz as far as I'm concerned that after he gave them 40 years its Rotel that is honouring him this way. Anyway, I don't know if you're a big Marantz or Ishiwata fan? Can't recall any reviews on your channel but in any case I really hope you get the Rotels in for a run. This is epoch endings stuff and part of that KI legacy is that they kept it affordable, very much like these speakers.
