Thanks to Christopher Fancher for sharing some opens I missed from the original comp (ex: the 1988 “Live at Five” open).

The 1995 opens still look pretty fresh
Thanks, man. This video is dedicated to Arch Deal, who is featured in the very first open of this compilation video. Deal passed away earlier this year.

Arch Deal worked at all three Bay Area network affiliates: WTVT 1958-59, WFLA 1959-75, WLCY 1975-77
Rod Carter is now at Raleigh-Durham, NC sister station WNCN & Steve Jerve retired in August 2021.
The longest set is the 2013-2016 intros, with a time of 2 minutes and 38 seconds
I love WFLA-TV.
WFLA had to modify the opens beginning at 7:50 that debuted in Sept. 1995 because NBC complained about the peacock logo.

Probably more upset that they cropped the sides of the peacock, which you’re never supposed to do with someone else’s logo

Those first News Channel 8 packages were horrific

WTVT 13 was the market leader in the mid-70s. They tended toward a minimalist - CBS News approach and 8 & 10 usually followed suit. The most famous packages of the 70s such as "Classical Gas," "Cool Hand Luke", "Move Closer to Your World", etc. never found a foothold in Tampa as the market never embraced the full-out Eyewitness News/Action News approach in that era. Even though some channels used those particular brands at various times.
It was the original Media General station.

Can you please tell me why did WFLA-TV dropped their previous "(Remember You'll Have 8) On Your Side" news music package from Gari Communications in favor of Sample Music's "Bold Horizons" in 1995?
WFLA, the NBC affiliate in Tampa FL, is owned by Nexstar Media Group. WFLA is the sister station to CW/MyNetworkTV affiliate WTTA in St. Petersburg, ABC affiliate WMBB in Panama City and CBS affiliate WKRG and CW affiliate WFNA in Pensacola.
