Happy (belated) birthday America! To celebrate here is my third longest video showcasing the ABC affiliate in the nation’s capital. This was gonna be uploaded yesterday but I waited to get more opens from Studio 31 Media Archive (full clips will be on his channel soon in 60fps).
Strap in for 38+ minutes of a station that went from a last place finisher to Sinclair’s largest station with a very small-market product to boot. Also feel free to take a drink every time you see “On Your Side” in the video!

Sad news to report. Former Chief Meteorologist Doug Hill passed away on Monday. Doug was meteorologist in Washington, DC for almost 34 years. Doug started in DC at WDVM-TV now WUSA TV 9 (CBS) for almost 17 years and then moving to WJLA-TV (ABC7) for 17 years before his retirement in 2017. He will be truly missed.
Once WMAL-TV, Washington DC. This from Sinclair, whose ABC affiliate in St. Louis hasn't had a local news operation since 2005.
Knowing what type of product Sinclair was known for watching WBFF out of Baltimore growing up, I had really hoped the Albrittons would have sold the station to Disney/ABC considering the type of market DC is. I really can't stand the way Sinclair runs their newscasts.
WJLA, the ABC affiliate in Washington DC, is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. WJLA is the sister station to Fox/MyNetworkTV affiliate WBFF and CW affiliate WNUV in Baltimore MD and fellow ABC affiliate WSET in Roanoke VA.

WJLA-TV went downhill when Sinclair took over.
Why 7 News as a name? They could have kept ABC 7 News or go back to its original name: News 7.

No. Sinclair Broadcast Group owns Channel 7.

It's weird that Dale Solly left Washington, D.C. for a little bit to work for WJW in Cleveland, Ohio. Then, he came back after.

First time was an update to TL’s original video (2018). Then it got updated for the new Sinclair graphics (2019), and then this year (2021) they changed their name to “7 News On Your Side” and I wanted to upload it around the 4th of July.
