Lyrics:
Sitting at this party
Wondering if anyone knows me
Really sees who I am
Oh it’s been so long since I felt really known
Fragile in the morning
Can’t hold on to much of anything
With this hole in my hand
I can’t pretend that we always keep what we find
Yes everybody splits apart sometimes
Living in the wake of overwhelming changes
We’ve all become strangers
Even to ourselves
We just can’t help
We can’t see from far away
To know that every wave might not be the same
But its all apart of one big thing
Oh it’s not just me, it’s not just me
It’s not just me, it’s everybody
Mercy is the only
Cure for being so lonely
Has a time ever been more revealing
That the people are hurting
Oh it’s not just me
I guess it’s everybody
Yes we all bleed the same way
Oh it’s not just me, it’s not just me
It’s not just me, It’s everybody x2

It also, particularly the video, reminds me of the old Beat Generation poetry about society being dead. It must be reawakened by a most romantic artist like her, for all that want to listen and know how.
Huge Carpenter Vibes, and I‘m obsessed! She has an angelic voice just like Karen Anne and many other great 70‘s singers. The later work of the Carpenters also went on to take more conceptual matter, like their last hit „Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft“, which talks about making contact with aliens and declaring intergalactic world peace day. Stuff that you wouldn’t associate with a soft and delicate voice coming from Karen Anne! This new song reminds me exactly of the contrast of lyrics’ meaning and voice delivery, and it‘s absolutely brilliant🫶🏻💗

"Calling Occupants" is a Klaatu song, the Carpenters didn't write it, lol
I fucking love her voice. Sounds like a warm summer day
I love this so much. I really think the pandemic really took a hit to my ability to speak to people properly. When I'm at a gathering, I freeze up randomly and every conversation topic I've prepared in my head just jumps out the window. I feel like an outsider, a stranger, an outlier. If people are able to talk this much around me, then what the hell is going on with me? Then, I think to how the pandemic has affected all of us. We've all had this shared loneliness, something we will probably never experience again (god forbid we ever experience it again) and now we have to relearn connecting with each other again. It may not be easy, it rarely ever is but remember that It's Not Just Me or You, It's Everybody.
@smellylorenny
Жыл бұрын
But clearly it’s not just the effects of the pandemic. I mean in the video there’s literally a phone eating the guts of a woman. This is a post pandemic warning, but also a smartphone era awakening... if you will. How many moments would we actually have to be able to casually interact with a stranger if we didn’t have our noses in our phones?? I think that is the sentiment she is also hitting on with this song.. and it’s quite tragic. In an age not so long ago, people would talk to each other. Just pleasantries mostly, but there was a sense of safety in the world, and of community to some level. Now everyone is just sort of floating around and ignoring each other. It’s hard to feel like anything impresses anyone or tangible earns their attention anymore. Let alone you as an individual trying to get the attention of another person...
@bug688

@@smellylorenny That definitely plays a massive part. It's so crazy how we as a generation have not been through a time without smartphones. We're the most connected anyone has ever been in the history of the world yet so isolated. This is too much for my brain to think about at 2AM.
@smellylorenny

@@bug688 I don't know how old you are but I've lived through a time where there weren't smartphones. I didn't get one til I was 18. That's not to say I didn't have some form of addictive technology as a kid (Nintendo DS was my vice) but even still this was different. The internet and social media was like a 'treat'. It was an exception to the norm, like you'd sit down at your computer and log in to a website and use it for however long until your download speeds started slowing down, or another family member needed to use the computer, or whatever. I mean hell I even remember my KZread video watching getting interrupted when my mother would get a phone call (internet and phone connection were all plugged in and phone lines disrupted internet usage). But now internet usage IS phone usage and it's with us everywhere, at all times. It's never been this level of invasive, and it's kind of fucking us up on an exceptional level. Sorry to add to your brain load but yeah lol. Just kinda crazy how quickly things have changed in less than 10 years.

This whole album is devastating. In the best way.
Dammit, she gets me every time. Astounding talent. Weyes Blood, you make this wild time so sweet.
it seems like the song could be perceived as someone waking up from a narcissistic bubble in which they have been dancing around with only to notice that other people exist, and that "It's not just me, It's everybody" refers to her realization that her consciousness in the way that she perceives herself as a self, is also shared by others in the same way. Through another lens, it's like the idea she wants to get across is that while we dance around in our individual bubbles we might miss out on people literally getting shot or eaten right next to us.
@RicardoMartinez-oh9sq

You are partly right, but she is beyond that: It is a comment about her age group, indeed, there is so much narcissism around, and if you take a look at the video the cell phone is hurting people: At the very end, the cell phone is destroyed, and magic of living restored.

She's breathtaking, and so is her voice, the composition and arrangement are too... Ahhh
talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before
i love when she shakes the phone character off her back and he breaks and is taken off the scene, only for him to reappear a few seconds later. pretty powerful music video, suits this magical song perfectly if you ask me ✨
Wow! I can't believe it! Weyes Blood really won the Super Bowl with this one!
Okay that had to be the trumpet fight guy in the beginning! You can’t convince me otherwise or otherblood.
It’s unavoidable to not fall in love with her after watching this
This girl is a contemporary genius
Those pants are so wonderful
This song, and indeed the entire album, deserves high accolades for the engineering and production alone, beyond the absolutely lovely songs.
Weyes Blood artist of the decade
It's really amazing that Weyes Blood can keep this high standard in all her songs. from album 1 and on - so much looking forward to the new one!
You don't need Disney, Disney needs you 💗✨
I woke up early this morning to see this video playing on TV without the sound. I thought it was a Rob Zombie movie or something. So creepy. Then I came here to listen to the song, which is gorgeous and completely jarring with this video.
I like this. Different but with a message and sung so beautifully.
Nothing brings home a deeper truth than contrast …what a compelling & catalytic contrast this video is….the visual, and in this case hugely ironic, extremities of death & dance, each bringing home something about the other ….and mesmerisingly holding me captive with the spell-binding rhythm of the song….& that voice that manages to always be both velvety & ethereal …delivered to a very special place by all these elements!

Put light against light - you have nothing. Put dark against dark - you have nothing. It's the contrast of light and dark that each give the other one meaning. -Bob Ross

Magic, yes, that is the word.
Wow this vocal with its range she's got some quality magic
Te amo weyes, debí haberte escuchado antes, pero nunca es tarde para la buena música 🎼
Such tender and alluring tone... So glad to have you back again!
I'm in love with this album
The future of music is theatre and music. Sold out everywhere.
Her voice is so unique, if I didn't know her and someone told me "this was a star back in the 70s" I would totally believe.
lyrics makes me feel less alone in my lonely struggles somehow :')
this song is addictive
Had my cry laughing in a few spots. Damn. First song of hers I have heard and I'm hooked.
Why doesn't she have 1 million, 2 million or 3 million subscribers yet??? Come on!!!
She can easily relax my whole body and control my anxiety, i’m speechless with her talent!!!
