I don't know why people are having such a hard time with this video. The story is obvious: Caroline meets you in a coffee shop, you drop acid together in a box, then she turns into a manticore and says something that gives you a panic attack and chases you through a construction site trying to explain herself, and to make it up to you she invites you along on her latest museum heist. Whatever was in the jug you stole caused her to have a very severe allergic reaction, so you take her back to your place. Then you turn into a goat and she throws you into the sea. Like, very obvious three act structure here folks, perfectly straightforward storytelling. Really don't see what the problem is.

I'm an older person who has 40+ years of musical exploration. When I was 12 I heard Kate Bush and she blew my mind with her creativity and unique vision. Since then, only a handful of female artists have blown me away like that, like Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, St Vincent, Florence Welch. Caroline Polachek definitely up there with those greats. Happy to be alive at a time when artists like this are making music. This is an absolute ****ng banger.

I see it as a reflection on her father having died in 2020 of covid, while Caroline was in lockdown across continents, having to say goodbye remotely. In my interpretation, she is speaking to her dad in funeral dress. I hear a *lot* of grief on this album, in addition to wondrous desire. Crude Drawing of an Angel also feels heartbreaking in this way. But anyway, the flat affect she uses to say “welcome to my island/hope you like me, you ain’t leavin” while in the bottom of a box/in a parched sandscape also reads to me as someone grieving/depressed needing connection while being aware they are stuck in their lower places.
caroline’s energy is so witchy and chaotic, i love it. this is so insanely beautiful 😮💨🖤

Popper said there are three worlds; this is Caroline making a contribution to the Third, it's coming straight from her Second. Noticing it now. I hope you're okay.
Im not a music video type of guy. Like.. lana del rey is my all time favorite singer and i didnt watch all of her videos. But when it comes to caroline's, i dunno what happens, i keep coming back to watch them again and again and again... And welcome to my island is hands down my favorite. Absolutely stunning, mesmerizing

what do you think the song is about?
My brain is chemically working again, thanks Caroline
First 25 seconds is like an Awakening @___@ Like... you were in coma for 10 years, and this song has just woken you up... or like truly understanding music for the first time, like Ears Wide Open thing... Just mesmerizing @__@
It’s July and this song is STILL the best one to come out this year.
Also, I don't really know how to elaborate, but the last shot of her as the train passes by is wildly cinematic and nostalgic and invokes a lot out of me emotionally for some reason. It seems like a scene from a movie shot in the early 80's. There's just something about it.

pseudo is right, i was about to say fallen angels (1995) directed by wong kar wai. it’s probably the color grading and handheld camera that makes you feel that way. unsteady, constantly moving, sorta like you’re there. check out both of these films if you haven’t already, they’re really incredible :-)
Always delivers great productions with great concepts. Best artist of our generation ly caroline

what do you think the song is about?
Vernon from seventeen loves this song
I can’t stop listening to this. Over and over. Thank you so much!! 🎉🎉🎉
The visuals. Caroline is so creative. The album already sounds so good.
Ela prometeu tudo e entregou tudo oq prometeu, arte pura essa mulher
She is totally underrated 😔
the improvisation and randomness makes this video more funny than it needs to be. Running past the construction workers and the opening moaning scene were my favorite parts.
Such STRONG KATE BUSH eyes and energy in this MV - LOVE it!!!
okay that's really cool that the ending connects to the album artwork

She's creating her own mythology, her own world, and we definitely ain't leaving.
her sound is so unique!!
I learned from her wikipedia page that her father passed away during the covid pandemic so that bridge resonates even more
