Weta Digital’s Beginnings: Peter Jackson’s Oral History of the Company’s Earliest Days

Few digital effects companies have been as transformative as Weta Digital, the New Zealand company founded in 1993 by Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor, and Jamie Selkirk. In this exclusive sit-down with writer, director, and producer Jackson, Rotten Tomatoes dives deep into the company’s beginnings as a one-computer operation experimenting with effects on the critically celebrated “Heavenly Creatures,” to the challenge of creating CGI cloth for “The Frighteners,” to Jackson’s big a-ha moment watching Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park.” These were the scrappy beginnings of a company that would come to change the way we watch movies.
