My latest video with Wētā is now live and this time I’m FORGING A REAL SWORD from LOTR! I’m really proud of it, but it’s so different from my normal videos it’s not getting shown to all the folks who want to see it, so I’m here spamming my own comments to try and reprogram the silly algorithm. It would mean the absolute world to me if you gave it a watch. Thank you so much

I met Christopher on the tour, he gave us a brief run down on how they make the swords and which actors used it.
What an incredible video!!! It felt like I was watching a brand new chapter of the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition extras that I watched as a kid!!! Incredible work Lachie, this was a real treat!!!!

Good cause there's alot more on the way haha
As luck would have it, my engineering career was in full swing when Lord of the Rings was released, and I was in position to buy the limited run of swords produced by Peter Lyon himself. So while they aren’t exactly the actual hero-prop swords, they are the next nearest thing, and as a result I know quite nearly how you feel to stand in front of a wall on which Anduril, Glamdring, Strider’s ranger sword, and Sting are all hanging. No orcs here, baby!
The temptation to duel would've overwhelmed me lol
I loved that moment when you heard "His sword that never made screen time" your brain immediately goes into breaking down that sentence with both curiosity and glee. "Lets take that sentence a step back"
I wanted to thank you for sharing all this with us, the people who are unable to be able to see all this any other way.. so thank you for letting us join you on your new adventure. With that happy holidays to you and your family.

Thank you so much Christina, a happy holiday to you and yours too!
Weta's work is so brilliant when compared to pure CGI. I would like to see more real sets being built and actors wearing costumes again. Thanks for the video.
I got into making because of the extras on the LOTR DVDs and it was my dream to work for Weta when I was younger, never mind that I was on the other side of the world!! I’ve worked as an arms and armour conservator and a mail maker, and Japanese metalworker (inlay and tsuba making), and honestly what Chris does every day is still my dream job. He’s living the absolute dream doing this. Thanks for sharing it!
Wow, I wasn't expecting to see something like this. It was equal parts laidback and awesome.
I remember having a Sauron action figure with the mace and the sword and wondering why he had that - makes so much sense now, thanks for clearing it up, Chris!
I still maintain a dream of buying a replica of Theoden's sword some time. These movies have aged so gracefully since so much of the craftmanship was so real.

Oh my gosh I absolutely love this!! If it’s possible can you please do a video with the swords from Narnia??
Amazing, wow. What a dream come true. You have real talent in this interview, and the editing was great.
That was so cool! This is something us viewers never really get to see so it was really cool to see the swords up close :)
Amazing! Thank you very much for this tour! My only sad point is just that we didn't't saw Elrond's or Haldir's swords ;P
I gota say, I have huge respect to whoever decided to put gorgeous flowing floral etchings on Sauron's weapons and armour. Probably Peter Lyon. It's so something you wouldnt expect but it really gives it a regal, royal, sense of power and beauty.
Wow! What an awesome career that would be; I confess I'm envious. I've polished many a motorcycle crankcase to a mirror finish with Solvol Autosol, it's perfect for the job.
6:19 "Weird little swoopie bits". Couldnt have said it better myself.

I love it, at last we get some nice up close shots of Faramirs sword also. Most pictures I have found are of the replicas. But this is the first video I have seen of handling the sword. Weta had some pictures on their website in the past that looked really close to this, maybe that was the real deal. Seems like the leather have turned brown over time, instead of the lovely green.
Such an amazing behind the scenes video and love your energy and enthusiasm! Thank you! 😀🤘

This would be a literal dream of mine fulfilled. I've got a growing collection of United Cutlery replicas from the films, but the actual hero props themselves would be another world entirely to get to hold and examine. Glamdring is probably my favorite sword ever, so beautiful.

amazing youve been able to tour weta workshop like this in the last few videos; truley any hobbyists biggest dream !
Amazing 👏 the work and detail that went into the making of the movies is incredible.
I cant remember if I was a sword and black Smith enthusiast before LotR, but I can point to Weta's work as what really hypercharged it. I remember having a computer class and we all signed up for yahoo email to get geocities space to learn HTML. My entire website was Swords with a section devoted to the LotR ones. I always wanted the United Cutlery Sword of the Witch King. Its always stuck with me. And then the mask and gauntlets in Return. Is amazing how incredibly impactful those visuals were on my creative output as a child. I loved the Nazguls lol.
Seeing you being able to geek out with the Weta guy is truly amazing. I am rather jealous and would absolutely love to visit their workshops one day.

15:11 I'm a huge fan of Villains ( especially a massive fanboy for Sauron and the Witch King lol. Probably my favorite villains of all time are in LOTR and the Hobbit. Aka my favourite movies of all time ) I would've been screaming in major hype if I got to hold a model of Saurons mace like that lol it's such a gorgeous weapon. This whole vid was amazing getting to see stuff like this. Even though I doubt it'll happen, but Seeing New Zealand is at the top of my bucket list cause of these movies. My dream vacation is to get to see every major location spot they filmed for the movies , and see Weta workshop etc. That's my all time dream vacation if I ever get to do something like. It was mind blowing Robbie, just mental.
It's beyond clear that someone had a blast right there - and why wouldn't you? Props or not, there is quite a lot of artisan's skill that went into creating these - and it is nice to see them get the appreciation they deserve. Just one question.. what would you reckon Sauron's mace weighed when you held it? Even in aluminium I'd reckon somewhere in the ballpark of 15-20 kilograms?
