    Thanks so much for posting this and the previous kitten food video! In addition to our cats, an outdoor cat recently adopted us 😻. We are on the county's list for their TNR program for her. However, about three weeks ago, she was in heat and three male community cats got to her so we're probably going to be seeing kittens soon 🤦‍♀️. I'd like to start them on good food so these videos really help! Sadly, we have to keep her outside because she absolutely hates our cats. She tries fighting them through windows and, if one of our cats come out out to sit on the porch with us (the only way they're allowed outside), she will attack them 😱. She is super friendly and affectionate with people so, if we find someone who is willing to give her a single cat home, we might be persuaded to give her up. Also, we live in a rural area and she is great at keeping mice and rats off our property!

    I wanted to ask your opinion on something. With inspiration from you, I set out with the best intentions to feed my new kitten raw. It was going ok but he’s been on/off sick since I got him (persistent URI then digestive upset) and then at 6 months was sadly diagnosed with FIP. We are attempting to treat him and it’s actually going ok BUT feeding him became a challenge. When he started to get sick with FIP, he was refusing all food, which is obviously extremely dangerous for cats. We were syringe feeding him (which is really tricky with raw). In an effort to try to get him to eat we tried everything including human baby food. Though he’d never eaten kibble with us, the one thing, he would reliably nibble on was Orijen kitten kibble. He now completely refuses raw. He will eat feline natural canned food but only from my hand but is happy to feed himself the kibble. We don’t know if we’re going to be able to treat his FIP. He is doing better but is only on day 27 of the 84 day treatment plan. Eating continues to be a concern. If he does recover, I fully plan to try and convert him back to raw. Anyway, long background story and I know your feelings on kibble (I’m worried about it too), I wanted to ask you if you know of anything that is kibble-like, but isn’t actually kibble, that he might eat because it’s kibble like but is more nutritious for him. I’d like to give it a shot to try and point him in the right direction again. Hopefully you’ll have some ideas. Thank you!

I was Learning and tried different brands. I feel scared to try different proteins. My vet recommended only one protein and we only do chicken pate for all my cats. I just got my new kitten, should I be more open to different proteins? I don’t understand how all the different proteins doesn’t hurt cats stomach. My cat Coco didn’t do well

    During pivotal periods of growth and development, like kittenhood and pregnancy, cats have increased protein requirements. To support their rapid growth, kittens and pregnant cats usually require food that contains 30% protein on a dry matter basis. This heightened protein intake promotes the development of muscles, bones and vital tissues in kittens and pregnant cats’ future offspring.

  • @jesscaticles

    @jesscaticles

    2 жыл бұрын

    That food is likely not complete and balanced. For example, cats eat the entire animal in the wild. Meat, bones, organs.. everything. Not just muscle meat. Most of those applaws are just "complimentary" and "supplemental" meaning it is just a treat or topper and not a standalone meal.

    I realize that my question isn't about wet food or kittens but i forgot where the info was so going to go with it in hopes you will see my question. I finally found organic chicken wings and cut the tips off and although my cat is still not on wet raw food yet he has been eating raw paws freezed dried raw and commercial wet till i get more freezer space etc. Anywho, I tried to offer him a raw wing tip and he just looked at me like I was cray, cray. Should i try gently cooking it first and if so, what is the best method to keep the most nutrients intact? I am almost sure you covered this somewhere but i forgot what you said. I gotta take better notes. Many thanks once again Jess!!!

  • @jesscaticles

    Hey! So you should never feed cooked bones. The transition to raw meaty bones will take some time. You'll have to introduce chunks of muscle meat first. Then gradually work toward raw meaty bones. Bones should also only be ~10% of the diet so offering bones should be planned specifically.

    If you notice your cat eat more on a freshly open can but don’t eat much after you feed them from the stored can in the fridge from the left overs, it might be that they prefer a wetter consistency. I always suggest avoiding fish-flavored foods for multiple reasons. Fish can cause picky eating because cats often develop an addition to it. Clean label project tested pet foods for mercury, lead, etc and found that fish-flavored foods were the worst. That's why my top suggestion is always homemade. But people ask me to review commercial food so there we go! Fish oil (very small amounts) is necessary for the essential fatty acids in these products.

    Feed your cats as close to their natural diet. No fillers, no thickeners, low sodium, all the nutrients should come from the meat , organic chicken, organic chicken liver, small oily fish, sardines, mackerel, mix in a organic egg from time to time , a straw berry, a few blue berries, a bit of broccoli and a few pieces of carrots. Not to knock your food list but I do not like most of them. Fillers are bad no matter what they are, pate is out its crap, only buy a high quality shredded food and do not be afraid to add the above.
