The only thing she's done where that wasn't the case was Creed. But even in that she was the Strong black female who has to overcome an obstacle and be "stronger" than the male. If she ever made a movie where that wasn't the case I'd be surprised and would watch it for that alone.

    That last episode of the first season, the final speech by Antony Hopkins, was so great. Although in hindsight the ridiculous action sequence of with bullet proof hosts massacring the innocent scientists and dumb security guards was the canary in the coal mine. They took that as the template for the future, instead of the good parts.

    One of the reasons I liked the first season is that it posed the question of "what does it means to be human" you see the hosts emote and "feel" but as a human you could never be sure whether you can accept them as alive. And even by the end of s1 you could easily walk out with either conclusion. And then s2 completely abandons that and stares "no, they're real live humans". S1 felt like a slow burn calm conversation, Ford's monologues being really fun and interesting to listen. I barely sat through s2, everything felt loud and convenient, with Dolores it felt like someone took her control panel and maxed her out at aggressive and irrational, making her completely unsympathetic. But we have to have "girl boss"

  • @caleidozkopie8344

    @caleidozkopie8344

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm pretty sure someone DID max out her aggressiveness on her control panel. She is a host after all. And supposed to lead a revolution. I didn't like the third season either and the second was alright enough and I don't understand why everyone is throwing these "woke" and "girl boss" buzzwords around because that's not what I got from it at all. They just missed the elegance of the first season and what made it interesting. The whole Action packed marvel esque fighting scenes were all awful no matter what gender the person who fought had. They completely went overboard with the action in general and obviously Maeve, Dolores and Charlotte would be in the center of it. Marve and Dolores have been protagonists from day one and if the fighting goes up obviously our main characters will have more fight scenes.

    The funny thing is, the main characters are asexual, they are not females, its like a avatar has a certain skin over it. They're Robots with AI, in the park they were implemented with some kind of backstory which reflected human role models in certain times, sure they had male or female body parts, but the important thing was, they developed conscience and true AI with respect to old and new philosophical questions what a human being or what intelligence really is. That's what I don't understand, are the intelligent writers gone, or did they just imitate all that with clever dialogues? Its kind of really really stupid to re-interpret the whole backstory to now 'female' robots, its just f'ed up, why would they limit themselves to a human gender which they don't have? They have no reproductive organs, their reproductive organs are their brains, they can multiply limitless. That all makes it just unbelievable stupid. I want to shout at the writers for the stupidity... The first season was so great...

When the main question in casting is does the person actually fit in to the part they are playing, are they believable enough to play the character they are representing in the story. Personally I do not watch movies to get aroused by how the characters look. Apparently that is important to you. Some roles require young and beautiful characters to work, some roles need older and more weathered faces. If Gérard Depardieu can pull a good character that fits the role and the plot I can enjoy it even though he might look like Gérard Depardieu. Not even a good actors can save a shitty script, just like even if you put all the best ingredients in your meal, that does you little good if you burn it. Usually when you set the bar really high it is very hard to meet it which they tried from the looks of it, but fell short compared to season 1 which is predictable given how well it was done. The lesson is don't start out too strong, give yourself room for improvement.

Now, a themed park featuring androids who are going through a personal journey of discovery and self-conscience? Now that's a more interesting concept, also more creative. If you want to experiment a high tech city, then let's wait until september to play the cyberpunk 2077 game and see what they have to offer. Caleb is a tool of a tool, completely obedient, conditioned and indoctrinated. And then they destroy the one thing that kept the world from falling apart... Because reasons. The chaos in the last minutes of the final episode likely already took more lives than that computer sacrificed in the name of stability over the entire time it operated. Everything's just so stupid all the time. And they just can't fucking get over Tessa Thompson. She keeps dying and getting resurrected in different forms, it's just annoying by now. If season 4 is ever out, you can bet your ass she's gonna survive it with some techno-bullshit shenanigans the screenwriters will use to justify it.

    Westworld is dystopia .. Westworld is about machine learning and becoming human. Season one and 2 was all about that ... Each time humans goes to the park, the machine learns the ways of man ,the algorithms keep getting better , humans in the park were actually the experiment not the machine ,just like the way Google voice Ai algorithms learns from you and I the moment any video is posted on KZread, google voice to text was terrible when it started ,but the Ai kept learning as more people start posting video on KZread, discerning between voice and accent,now Google live caption is close to perfect. Westworld season one and 2 was all about that . Season 3 was the entrance into the real world .a I taking over. A fight between machine with consciousness ( Deloris) and machine created by man with human Aaron Paul between who realised all his life events were already pre determined before it happens by a.i algorithms .you have to understand books like a brave New world by Aldous Huxley and George Orwell 1984 before you can really understand the concept behind it . When it becomes so predictable then what's the point? They ran out of the original creative source material to copy and are not creative writers themselves so it devolved into what every other show is now... A preachy PSA with bland, undeveloped and/or completely unlikeable characters.

Ford, MIB, Bernard are the other characters with more focus, they are men, and 2 of them are white. Do you have to complain about everything? Did they ever mentioned racism in this show? Did they ever said MEN were shit on this show? As far as I'm concerned this is Humans vs Robots, not MEN vs WOMEN. The titillation, horror, elation… They’re parlor tricks. The guests don’t return for the obvious things we do, the garish things. They come back because of the subtleties, the details. They come back because they discover something they imagine no on had ever noticed before, something they’ve fallen in love with. They’re not looking for a story that tells them who they are. They're so invested in the story at that point that not only do they have to keep watching to find out how it ends, but persuade themselves that *because* they are still watching then it *must* be good. Personally I tuned out of Westworld halfway through s2 - I realised that I didn't care how it ended. Similarly I watched episodes 7 & (perhaps optimistically) 8 of Star Wars but have never watched the supposed finale of what is nominally a franchise that I absolutely loved because I just don't care anymore.

    @@mrdean2539 BS:G had other problem - the writers made shit up as they went along, there was never any plan for anything. Even the names of the Final 5 were chosen at random among the remaining cast. I quite liked it, even the ending, but you could see nobody on the writing team had any idea where the show was going.

    The best part is that there aren’t any strong female leads doing anything. They’re all robots!! For as woke as this show hoped to be it wouldn’t even pass their own bechtel test.

    Westworld ended with the Season 1 with the robots rebelling, and that's where the original movie started. Everything else is just a VR simulation scenario that's being run on the robots called "Justice World" that was going to get scrapped because it wasn't realistic enough.

    10:03 - See, this right here is my biggest issue with this critique. We _do_ see the machine's positive influence on humanity. Literally the instant its plans get leaked, everything goes off-script and people start destroying everything around them just for the sake of not being predictable. It's a colossal destruction of property, and considering the machine is also able to predict human motivations and was plotting to have the negligent, the incompetent, and the dangerous persons removed to minimize their debilitating effects on society, it's also a destruction of innumerable human lives, as well. Shutting down the machine is even worse- nothing is in charge, there's no plan for the future, and the last word we had on it was that in 75-150 years, humanity destroys itself. Is it worth it for free will? The problem that Dolores points out with this machine (other than some people being detained for being truly unpredictable, literally prisoners without a crime) is that in making these plans, it also eliminates the possibility for damaged, poor, and imperfect people to actually turn their lives around for the better. Its plans recursively justify themselves. Caleb is trying to fight his trauma as a soldier, but the machine is putting him on a treatment plan for that trauma that it predicts will lead him to suicide in three years. His treatment is an insincere farce, designed to write him off for a utilitarian cause. The question is, is it worth killing him off, or is he deserving of a _chance_ at healing, knowing that his existence may directly or indirectly harm countless others? Season 3 had its issues and didn't do its themes full justice. The themes themselves, though? Those were spot-on, and a great return to form after season 2's clusterfuck imo.

    Thanks man. I found season 1 so deeply inspiring. There was a strong connection between the themes it was centered around and the plot/ the actions of the protagonists. And even before season 2 had been released, I was fearful of how they might carry the show out of the park and into "the real world". Firstly, I agree with you that they should've shown the good sides of MegaTésticule. Secondly, I think they should have moved season 2 completely out of the park and focussed around completely different protagonists - just like "The Wire" had done. They could've introduced a set of human protagonists, probably including Caleb, who were all in some way "questioning the nature of their reality". There could have been one complety outsider, an "offline-person" being shunned by most people, on whom the pressure would be raised every day to finally get connected; you could have one character superficially criticizing all the control and the 1984 state - but on a deeper level just wishing to gain the most attention; there could be a person being involved in maintaining parts of the MegaTésticule network, who lives the great life and doesn't want to see beyond the parameters of his own occupation. And then, slowly, while we get to the end of this alternate second season, we recognize names and characters from season 1. We notice how the events from this alternate season are intertwined with Ford's legacy. And then, in the alternate season 3, we see how those two paths cross in an explosive way, lead to new possible alliances between hosts and humans, new bonds between humans who were enemies before - and the same for hosts. Instead, they remained in the park for too long and when they finally left the park, the world crumbled into pieces. PS: Also, if all those white men were so powerful and adored in the outside world - why do they have to come to a place like Westworld to live out their fantasies? It really seems that the writers blew their brains out at the same time as Robert Ford.
