Back in the day, it was just Louie and me at the Columbus YMCA. Regarding deadlifts, I peaked at 655 for three reps before my last meet as a light heavyweight. The guy knew all the tricks to get that out of yourself. I've never stopped deadlifting (or doing good mornings). I teach a powerlifting for seniors at the rec center I go to.

In 77 Joe Spack trained at the Flatbush YMCA in Brooklyn. The YMCA had a meet named the Brooklyn open,I completed there and so did Slack. Man Soack had a back as thick as steel cables . Unreal strength, and training was very seldom, maybe once a week. Heavy deadlifts with lots of rest

How should a recreational lifter squat to build the posterior chain like you guys always preach. Can the arched back, sit back squat used for regular squatting without gear? I ask because I can’t brace and get a tight core when I stick my butt out and arch my back? But most important, can I apply this technique arched back, butt out and pushing the feet latelary out for dumbbell or bodyweight squats when the Center of mass is different? Is your squat technique suitable for every squat, regardless if its a barbell back squat, a bodyweight squat, belt squat or goblet squat? Please explain the difference for the box squat between your technique other squat techniques? Why Louie teach "relax on the box, rock back and release the hips" with knees behind and everyone else teach "stay tight, don´t rock back and don´t release the hips"!? Whats the difference and what technique is better for a recreational lifter who wants to stay healthy and strong? How should someone learn to squat? can I use the box squat with a dumbbell to learn proper squat technique or is a straight bar on the back neccesary because the center of mass is different between barbell and dumbbell? A lot of questions, sorry guys, but please make a squat podcast

I’m a raw lifter and have followed Louie’s teachings for years. I box squat and free squat. My best free squat is a 635lb (back in 2020, I’m sure it would be higher by now if I had not detached my calf pulling a sled. It’s caused knee pain on that side and hip pain on the opposing hip) so I’ve backed off the last few years. I can say without a doubt, you can squat just the way he describes. You initiate the squat by pushing your hips backwards. This happens before your knees bend. How do you sit on the toilet? Do you hover over it and drop your ass straight down? Or do you push your ass backwards until it touches the seat? It feels a little awkward at first, because you have to bend over at the waist. There’s no way to keep your back completely vertical. (Stan Efferding talks about this). Gear lifters use the same cues, their squats just look different because of the ultra wide stance. That Ultra Wide stance allows them to keep their backs more vertical. Don’t try that as a raw lifter, unless you want to detach an adductor. Louie has done lots of videos regarding the box squat you just have to look on KZread for them. @honeybadgerlift is my Instagram account, you can see some of this done raw there.

I know I'm nit pickin here but going back to look at a couple WSBB articals on the topic after reading your comment, this was sconsistent Here are examples of basic DE lower and upper training waves: Lower Week 1 - 12 x 2 or 5 x 5 @75% (50% bar weight 25% band weight) Week 2 - 10 x 2 or 5 x 5 @80% (55% bar weight 25% band weight) Week 3 - 8 x 2 or 5 x 5 @85% (60% bar weight 25% band weight) nit picking because the difference is only 5% lol I might have to go back and rewatch this vid to see where my confusion lies, maybe I just misheard the info in it@@justanormalguy1120

Posterior chain focus with a lot of isolation exercises as they mention here. To train the quads for the function of the deadlift, Louie likes the deficit deadlift on speed day when needed. When box squatting make sure the box is low enough (10inches -12inches or so).

  • @cejaay13

Think about your question, why would you want to neglect any muscle group? Focus on the posterior chain and do quad work. Any muscle imbalances, invite injury. If you want to continue to progress, and get stronger you have to strengthen the muscles on both sides of a joint.
