How to SQUAT! With Ed Coan (Greatest Powerlifter Of All Time)

Спорт

Ed Coan, the greatest powerlifter of all time, breaks down the squat step by step with Mark Bell and Silent Mike.
Ed Covers:
-How to set up for the squat.
-How to choose your stance and bar placement.
-How to properly breathe and brace in the squat.
-How he walks the weight out in a squat.
-Using a belt and knee wraps in the squat.
-"Opening the taint" instead of pushing the knees out.
-Arching the mid and upper back rather than the lower back.
-Cues from the start of the squat, to the bottom, to the top again.
-His favorite assistance exercises for the squat.
AND MUCH MORE!

Part 1 - Getting under the Bar 4:35 Your stance is determined by what is comfortable for you. This is determined by invisible variables such as muscle, tendon, ligament and joint geometry. Muscular Tension: Push every lower spine muscle into the spine, and ever upper spine muscle into a locked tense position Arch the MID back 2:14 The Importance of a Routine Preparatory Phase regardless of the Bar’s weight Part 2 - The Walk out (40%> Take tiny steps, with a long pause in between steps to avoid the Vibrations. Hey Mark. I tore my meniscus 2 years ago, and only had surgery 4 months ago. I haven't been able to squat at all in the past 2 and a half years because of this; whenever I get anywhere near parallel it feels like someone is stabbing me in the knee. I just tried the cue in this video about opening up in the groin, opposed to pushing the knees out... I FELT NO PAIN AT ALL! This has quite literally been a life changer. Thank you for the great video!

sonic34314 True. Squat and deadlift are overcomplicated. Coan doesn't squat with textbook style. Do whatever you gotta do to squat and get back up without losing balance. You'll find out for yourself what the best bar position is, stance width, forward tilt etc. They all depend on one another and time will learn what works for you.

  • @akw1312

    @akw1312

    7 жыл бұрын

True but there is a certain point where everyone can do the same thing and benefit from it. Every one is either going high bar or low bar, that's it. So, I think we can take pieces of info from each squatter such as the squeezing all muscles as Coan was saying, it's important to do that when lifting anything over 315 IMO... But yes we are all differet, yet, we can all learn from listening to squatting advice.

This is amazing. The squat has always been an intimidating lift because it's so complex, but this video really helped break things down for a knucklehead like me. Thanks guys.

More videos with Ed Coan please! Just got back home from the greatest squat workout of my life and had to give thanks. Plateaued at a measly 225lb squat for my 155lb bodyweight for at least a month. Tried different cues like in Chris Duffin's bracing video but wow… just wow. Literally just those few cues from Mr. Coan (especially about pushing up through the bar with the back) and the weight felt completely different. Thank you to the Super Training team and to Mr. Coan!

You know what, the tip about the taint is absolutely the best part of this entire video. I incorporated it in my lifting and I no longer feel myself falling forward, I'm able to drive up more with my back coming up, and for the first time my back is sore after a workout without being tender. You guys made my squats into skwaats!!
