As the owner of two jet black poodles, I laughed at the parts of this video where we could barely see Siba’s face. I’m always angsting about that when I photograph my guys - dark eyes, black coat. You have to have to the right angle and lighting to capture the beauty. Yay, Siba!!!

@Pod My goofy boy Jack , now passed away, bit a bicyclist. He loved to chase anything that was moving fast. After he bit the cyclist, the cyclist stopped and Jack jumped up to give him a big kiss. You're not welcome. Jack made the mistake of thinking bicycling was a game of tag. I hope you weren't hurt badly and that it wasn't an aggressive attack. That's painful and traumatic. I was viciously attacked by a St. Bernard and was very traumatized. Decades later, I'm still afraid of St. Bernards.

Amazing standard poodle. Among some of the best in history. I’m hating all the comments calling Siba prissy or snooty. Poodles are down to earth and goofey clowns. My standard makes me laugh almost all day. They are also exceptional hunting dogs for both water fowl and upland game. They know when they are working and Siba puts on a show. The air of dignity is in their breed standard and she holds it well. :) All dogs in the BIS were deserving and we all loved the golden. However Siba had that special extra in the moment it counted.

It drives me crazy when people call poodles prissy. My miniature poodle boy is the most rough and tumble dog around! 😁 He's a Noodle Boodle Parti Poodle!! Also, he's quite the pittie poo!🤣 He fights and wrestles with me like a big dog! Nothing prissy about him! However, he's smarter than most people I know! He learns new commands and skills with an unrivaled quickness. When that collar and leash go on he's all business! Put on his Service Dog vest and he's lasered in!!!

My five month old red Standard male is a goon, affectionate, ridiculously intelligent, loves playing fetch (and getting dirty!), and is in no way a foofoo dog. People don't realize their badass roots, and it's a shame. To be honest, the fact that the Standard isn't classified as a sporting breed is strange.

Elise Leslie I prefer the puppy clip, but they’re not allowed to show in it after they’re 1. After that age they must show in an English Saddle or Continental. After they earn their championship they can go back for GRCH in a MCC.

I have purebred dogs that I breed & show (terriers) but have a lot of friends who show poodles. Most of THEM aren't crazy about the clip either, and clip the dogs down the moment they're finished showing.

  • @mobstercrow7515

    @mobstercrow7515

The continental is the historically accurate clip for the poodle. They are water dogs and the continental is there to protect their joints, while still removing some hair so they aren't weighed down in the water. The bracelets (leg poofs) are there to protect the joints, and the rosettes (butt poofs) are over the hip joints to protect them from the cold waters in Germany. The cold water can make joints stiff, so they left the hair on the joints to keep them warm and insulated.

Siba is stunning! So beautiful! My love-affair with standards began when I had to start researching to get my first dog a few years ago. I chose a red standard puppy & named her Autumn. I absolutely made the right choice for myself & I've been learning so much from my girl. She was so easy to train (which is what I needed because I knew nothing about how to train dogs). She's so smart & emotionally adept. My girl is 3 yo now & she is so silly & full of BIG personality. She loves attention & adores putting on a show for people.

I just took my eleven year old and my 5 month old Standards out the play ball. I’m trying to run the energy out of them. Those of you who haven’t had the “Standard Experience”, you have missed it. I was walking my oldest in the park. A man approached me and said he trains retrievers. He added that he is changing from Labs to Standards for retriever. He said they are great retrievers, very smart, easier to train and stay focused much longer than other dogs. I love labs too. If fact I love most animals, These two Standards are the first pure bred dogs I’ve had in thirty years.

They make fantastic service dogs, labs are more common though since they don't require a lot of grooming. I'm getting my spoo prospect on June 7th, he will be 8 weeks old and he will start professional training at 10 weeks. I've owner trained 2 previous service dogs, as well as pet dogs, so he will be trained daily by me also.

@Face in the Crowd high registration breeds ---especially if they have been popular for a long period of time-- almost always involve for different purposes. Genuine hunting goldens that have no chance of winning in the show ring and pure show dog so cannot possibly hunt. And then pet dogs that can't do either. Nothing wrong with a breed split if you are informed buyer and know what you want. This was a dumpy nonworking show dog. The group judge liked that type, the BIS judge didn't. Or he liked the Poodle better. Quite rightly.

Dog judging is not a popularity contest and affirmative action for under-achievers (which is what the pet people are whining about) is not a big factor. Standard Poodles have historically had real depth in truly knowledgeable breeders. Quality breeders producing high quality dogs consistently. This is an excellent example.

This is absolutely not true.... couldn’t be farther from the truth actually. I’ve yet to meet a decently bred poodle who didn’t ADORE children like it was their entire world. It’s even in their UKC standard to be great with kids. I’m not sure where on earth you are getting this info from lol

Any dog “can” be persnickety around anyone. They aren’t robots they all have different personalities. I’ve met pit bulls as gentle as kittens with kids and toy poodles that would try and rip your face off. It depends on socialization and and the owner’s commitment to training. Generalizations are completely ridiculous 🙄

It's not often the case that standard poodles don't like children. In my experience, quite the opposite. Standard poodles have a heart of mirth! They are goofy clowns, comedians who love to play. I got my first standard poodle when my three children were all at home, ages 7 to 16. Lucy loved playing with her human brothers, sometimes quite wild! She loved running around outdoors with the boys as the played Nerf. Lucy also was an incredible outfielder in baseball games! For me she was a dream come true, the best dog of a lifetime. My other two standards love kids to but by their time, the kids were getting older, leaving home. If you meet a snippy standard poodle, maybe it had some bad experiences.

Y’all relax , no I didn’t watch I rarely do unless one of my family has entered ,or is handling a dog. You see , we’ve been in the breeding , handling , judging ,trial, ect ect business for over 70 years. It was only a breed joke. Anyone who knows , knows the chances of a lab winning is next to 0. Even if it’s a perfect specimen. But I also know how upity dog people get when you pull their leg. And I just could resist it. Sorry 😁 🤠🎸🎶🙏✌️

It's nice to see that superficial, subjective based fashion shows for dogs are still a thing. Let's just keep our Catahoulas as far away from the AKC as humanly possible. We need them to show people what dogs were capable of before they all got turned into a sack of traits desired for looks and nothing else.

Standard Poodles were prized by the Germans, Romans and French for their retrieval abilities. The haircuts vary and were created so the dog wouldn’t drown by the weight of their coat. The puffs? Cover their joints and protect them from cold water. These dogs retrieve fowl on land and water. Are faster than all other retrievers in the water and on land. They are also passionate about their work.
