Well, granted those people that were salty might have been 15 years old, as most people watching school boy rugby should still be kids themselves…. Mighty odd for a grown up to be watching schools rugby unless they are family of the kids playing

We have always been a good sports school, but did not expect us to become a leading rugby school. Guess it makes sense after decades of the sports institute at work.

To be a leading one is more about consistancy I suppose, look SBHS had a great 2023 squad won the top 4, over the years had some great 1st 15s that have made top 4, in the 90s an 2000s they had some great 1st 15s, I think 1997 they made top 4 had like Flynn/Muliana/Dermody went on to become ABs, alot of others super an provincial players, but then they also have rebuilding seasons, this was also a different time when half the 1st 15s then were made up of 19 year olds lol, I know these days NZ 1st 15 comps are under 18, but 2024 I dont think SBHS will be anywhere near the top school in NZ, I read only 8 players returning, for westlake to be considered a top rugby school like others they need consistancy season after season.

As a NZer, awesome effort by both teams. SA have some upcoming players as well as Westlake Boys!

Calm yor self down broer. These are not nearly the best rugby schools in SA, these are our top 100 schools that have been doing "well" latley. Plus it isnt even school boy rugby season in SA at the moment, a lot of the boys are training for athletics, cricket season is in full swing, and it is summer holidays for all the schhols in SA so a lot of the boyjies are on holiday. The boys have been busy with final accademic exams for the past month and a half.

We had this tournament before in South Africa where you had to play our first teams and it was a massacre. So we all know what strength vs strength look like. We send pre season sides for next year. These boys played under 16 this year. You struggled against Hartpury. They toured South Africa earlier this year and lost to Westville. Westville ranked 40th. If you don't beleive me go look it up. Easy to find

Some poor comments here, EG Jansen is not a rugby powerhouse, its a normal school playing with alot of 16 y/o in their team. They are maybe ranked 20th and Oakdale even lower.

EG definitely in our top 50 .... Oakdale is lower But awesome game ... Nz and Ireland are closing the gap.... Reason we have to play u16 players is our school year ends in November so the u18s are heading to varsity... No excuse though at this level is pretty much even.... Good on EG and Oakdale both schools with great names.. Very proud boys

You do realise rugby is a type of football. Rugby split from “football” aka soccer in the 1800s. The English ruby association is called the RFU, standing for “rugby football union”. In the Uk we don’t tend to call rugby “football” but in many other parts of the world they do.

@@GBP4874 Changes every year depending on squads, very few NZ schools are consistantly up the top 1-5 for the season, maybe they are more competitive across the board than SA schools where it seems its always the same 1-4 schools that dominate in SA. Plus its also hard to gague whos the best school in NZ based on one top 4 tournament, bringing the best of the regional finals together, SBHS the 2023 winner might lose to plenty of other NZ 1st 15s in 2023 just they didnt have to play them only the winners of the regional final, I think NZ schools are more even across the board, also SA schools still have u19 players in their 1st 15 comps, NZ 1st 15 comps outlawed that years ago because some schools had excessive number, now a 19 year old at school can still play rugby just not 1st 15.

Got pumped last year by Hamilton Boys :)

Man we were good when I played for them back in the late 60's early 70's...we were unbeaten back then in 13 games...I also rowed for the school and was in the cross country running team...With clubs like Takapuna and North Shore and even East Coast Bays we had good young players..well done boys..will be waiting for the final results..dont let it get to your heads,,just play good rugby

This school is not even on Oakdale, or better yet Grey level guys come on

The way the SA school system work is that final year (Grade 12) learners have left school at around the end of September. Schools will play a tournement like this with the younger boys (not yet 18 as they would only turn 18 in their final year) to prepare for next season.
