Western Swing RULES #17 by Robert Huston Productions

Western Swing RULES further explores the oft mislabeled difference between a "country" guitar and Western Swing guitar. Former Texas Playboy guitarist Joe Settlemires gives the best demonstration to date of why Western Swing is not country but a form of Jazz AND how to play it. Subscribe to Western Swing RULES and help keep this great American Music art form alive.

A superb demonstration of the principles of Western Swing rhythm & lead guitar. Joe does an excellent job of delineating the nuances that today seem so often to be overlooked in approaching this style. Thanks for this!

Thank you so much for this. I am wanting to build up my western swing guitar skill. I am well familiar with the feel. I just need to learn - and practice - some of those chord voicings.

I used to take lessons from Joe. he's my cousin's husband! soooooo freaking good. It's not my style but his technique is absolutely impeccable and I used to get mesmerized just watching him play. I wish I was half as good

Play like Django Reinhardt. You will see it is closely related to Western Swing. Make sure your bowels are evacuated before attempting to play. Then you will be comfortable.

Makes me feel good about the Epi Les Paul I just got for Christmas. Would like to know what gauge strings he uses on it, and if they're flat wound for this mellow sound.

I am no expert by no means on Swing or any Style for that Matter. My felling on Swing is Feelings of course in any music but lay back to in comparison to on top of the Beat like a shuffle. Shuffle is on Top Swing is laid back while the song is moving forward at the same time. Speaking of Eldon in my opinion if Eldon wouldn't have been there for Bob there may have never been Western Swing and not only did he play it he Knew the Theory of every thing he did, In Conclusion if he wouldn't have known the Theory he wouldn't have known what he was playing. 2 Chord Take Me Back To Tulsa For instance. 1/4 notes?

RMP, thank you for your comments. They are well taken. Eldon is credited with polishing Bob's sound more than any other musician. His knowledge of theory and chord structure are legendary. Love your real estate video work. Keep Swingin'.
