I like the point you make about the steel pin and WS's approach to it. Over here we don't have parts bin trucks - they are all manufactured in house - engines, axles, chassis and cabs. Wouldn't mind a drive in one of these at all - they look well made. From a Scania driver.

I agree with not using huck bolts. If you ever had to cut a huck bolt with a torch and end up burning air lines or a wiring harness you would agree!

so u mention the welded on stand off pins for the harnesess and have thought about the road salt. so when those pins break off, what am i supposed to attach them to? break out the frame drill out and re-attach, or go against manufacturers specifactions and weld them back on?

Perhaps you could weld another stand off in the same manner, 1 inch below or above and then move the harness up or down. If you are in a salt and snow zone, it would pay to use a few cans of corrosion resistance paint and spray the base of those stand offs early on. They are originally installed pre-paint, but the newer paints on all US made vehicles are all water based.

I see them on the road they are not as popular trucks as the paccar products also they are HAND BUILT oppose to robotic built like all other trucks furthermore western star was more veered towards severe duty trucks such as oil field, mining, and log trucks versus highway applications furthermore their cab and sleeper is the best in the market i just seen one today and I’m extremely impress of the cab and wiring that was displayed Don’t believe me go hit the side of your peter/ kw then hit the side of a western star you’ll find that the cab and sleeper is far better insulated then the other trucks

Western star has been trash since Freightliner took them over just like all other freightliner products. No where near the quality of western star of old

Hey Western Star, your new 5700XE has huck bolts everywhere, oh wait I forgot, it's just a Cascadia with some lipstick, I think it's shameful to say "Western Star doesn't use huck bolts" when your latest and greatest model that your mass marketing is just a re-branded Freightliner, and that Benz Actros steering column/wheel that you put in the 5700 sucks too, very limited adjustablity equals very uncomfortable.

You have a choice at that time they weren’t producing the 5700xe I’ve looked at both trucks very carefully and it seems the only trying the 5700 and Cascadia share outside of Powertrain and maybe the frame is the airliner suspension When you purchase a truck your really buying the cab and suspension that’s it they all have same frame thicknesses all offer their own engines as well as Cummins and all offer automatic or standard transmissions with a various range of rear axle ratios Do your research and look at the trucks up and down and you’ll notice the difference in the trucks
