Thanks for this Ian, I'm a proud Sandgroper (West Aussie). The people in the orange SES (State Emergency Services) suits and the majority of the rural fire service are volunteers. What you see in this video is repeated through out Australia wherever a fire service is needed. We are so blessed to have these people in our community who put their own lives on the line to protect us.

That Tatra cab is the military, air-transportable cab (Force line), designed with ultra simplicity in mind. That's why it has unified old style switches and gauges and that super simple shape, with flat windows. Those properties are welcomed in the firefighting as well, thus the derived civilian version. There are other cabs, like Phoenix one (is shared and was designed by DAF), or a classic Tatra cab, or another armoured (by Excalibur, I think), which also has a firefigting version.

Fun trivia for you, Ian. The dog enjoying the water at 2:00 is Piper, part of the State Emergency Service Canine Unit. Both the dogs and handlers are SES volunteers, and they have an amazing record in search and rescue. I got the chance to volunteer and try to hide from the dogs in a training exersize a few years back. Failed miserably. 😂

The city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands was the only city in Europe to purchase American Ahrens-Fox fire engines in 1926. I remember how we used to stare as boys when they were polished outside the firehouses. And I even saw them in action once during a major fire. Sadly, the city has gotten rid of them in 1972 and only a few remain in museums.

AUD 35,000 is about USD 22,000. Qld Ambulance used to sell their outback & rural ambos as campers. They were landcruisers in the 1990s, the patient area makes a great sleeping area, and it's full of storage and lights both inside and out as you'd expect for an ambo. Of course kept in great condition too.

In the Czech Republic there is a specially protected tanker "Triton" on Excalibur Army Triton chassis. The cabin and chassis are protected against mechanical damage, with protection corresponding to ballistic protection class 2. In addition, the occupants are protected against contamination by toxic chemical and biological substances. The vehicle is also protected against the effects of fire and heat. All electrical, fuel, oil and air lines on the outside of the vehicle are specially shielded.

Those types of trucks are very special though, with very few units allocated to fire department centers. Ordinary fire trucks looks very much similar to those shown, just the European style hides more the equipment, behind shutters, covers and doors.

If you look closely at the tatra you’ll see it has a metal tube around the cabin. I think it’s called a “halo” system. This is a fire suppressant sending a spray of water around the cabin protecting the fire fighters. It also has drop down fire proof blinds in the windows. The fire can pass over the truck with the fire fighters surviving. These trucks can literally drive through the fire. In 2019 in the fires here in NSW Australia I was chatting to the fire fighters and one of these had all the plastic surrounds around the side windows dripping down the doors. They were having a quick feed and going back out.

@@fugawiaus The tanker "Triton" has a completely different task than the Tatra in the video. "Triton" was developed to fight vegetation fires in ammunition depots or on areas contaminated with munitions. For this it has the ballistic protection of level 2.

@@fugawiaus It's really no fun with that. The development of the vehicle was triggered by the explosion of an ammunition depot near the village of Vrbětice in 2014, where about 50 tons of ammunition were detonated. Immediate firefighting and rescue operations were followed by a total of six years of evacuation and recovery under sometimes extreme conditions (inaccessible terrain, ammunition load).

The tax system is one of the primary causes of high car prices in Australia, especially the Luxury Car Tax (LCT). The Howard government established this tax to operate together with the goods and services tax (GST). The Australian Luxury Car Tax came into place to replace the wholesale tax in the 1980s

You'll generally see 1.4, 2.4, 3.4, 4.4, 7.2, 12.2. U =Urban, R = Rural, B = Broadacre. Different build based on those roles - stowage, equipment carried, pump / foam system varies between them. The Toyota Landcruiser 70's are a 4.5L V8 Turbo Diesel. Absolutely unbreakable and fantastic to drive in anger. Yellow trucks are ANCIENT. Talking more than 25 years. Would not be many about.
