This is just a rebranded Jinbei strobe. Jennie has been around for along time. Adorama also rebranded this strobe as the Orlit. Jinbei are less expensive.

it's more of the HDPRO, but with slight tweaks. Same system, but a rebrand. I support it as they seem to have US exclusivity now. Nothing new from Orlit and Adorama sells Wescott... Jinbei has just about disappeared from Ebay now. Just speculations lol

When you first used it did you do the camera prep that’s in the manual or just hook it to the camera and experiment?

What I love is that I can control this light from my canon transmitter!

Does it come with a cover for the tube when not in use or shipping?

Does the FJ-X2M support a multi shooter mode like the Good system. Can one FJ400 flash be triggered by multiple cameras/triggers at different power settings without first sending a test signal to set the power level?

Excellently produced video as always. Nice models too! I've been eyeing a move to Godox from my Alien Bees studio setup. Will give this a look.

Thank you for this review as I am in a quandary about buying the Godox AD400 Pro... Question has Wescott FJ400 been consistent up to this date? Some reviewers have said that the FJ80 has been giving trouble after some months of use. I really want to invest into this technology with Westcott because I use there modifiers already.

Westcott & Adorama do not make these transmitter nor lights. ATG/Jinbei. You got better luck going ATG/Godox or ATG/Nissin. ATG is no longer with Jinbei. That caused the biggest downfall because Jinbei didn't want ATG services/supports in North and South Americas.

I have 3 of them. 😎

It would depend on what I want to shoot video of. Do I need the range for the 55-250? Personally, I wouldn't get either because I would be looking for a faster lens. kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4mE08yJo5ivp5s.html (see some options)

Is this your set, Tech Gear Talk? If so can you try to see if your FJ-X2m can enter into TCM. That ATG TCM is one nice feature that even Pocket Wizard, Quantum Instrument, Profoto & Interfit didn't thought about it.

@@TechGearTalk I and my staff really hate all TTL/M monolights because they simply DO NOT display F-stop reading. Those darn number are useless to light meters & TTL/M speedlites. And without the TTL change/invert to Manual (TCM), then we can use any lights. You will notice when using TTL, the display will not tell you what F-Stop nor power after the shot.

I have Samsung nx1 camera the company told me it will only work on manual mode what's the downside shotting manual mode only with the Fj400??

If you want other strobe options look at the Jinbei and Orlit by Adorama since the FJ400 is a clone of the Jinbei lights they will work and are also cheaper

Might just be speculation, but I think Wescott has the exclusivity now for the licensing. I can't find Jinbei stock anywhere & Orlit RT's have been on backorder for months now. Just my thoughts, but probably the case.

I'm not sure if it works for high speed sync, but check the link in the description and go to their site because they update the list regularly.

Hey just wondering, Can I use the FJ-XR Wireless Receiver with the FJ-X2M Universal Wireless Trigger and control let's say a Jinbei strobe WITHOUT an FJ400? :) OR does an FJ400 need to be present?

Probably a bit late..... Yes...however you may not need the FJ-XR as depending on your Jinbei strobe the X2m will also work with the Jinbei. If the Jinbei is compatible for use with the Jinbei TR-Q7, it will work !

Will the Westcott FJ-XR allow HSS or is it just a pocket wizard for 1/200 sec and slower shutter speeds for other strobe brands

Hi Shane. It depends on your camera body and is listed on their website. For example, I could not get HSS to work with a canon SL2, but could do HSS with a godox trigger and light. Hope that helps.

@@TechGearTalk thank you. Your videos are very helpful. I am under the belief that I would need to stick with one brand strobe if using HSS. For example I couldn’t use a Westcott FJ400 and Godox AD200 together with a Godox wireless trigger for HSS, or Westcott trigger. It would be great if wireless triggers communicated with multiple brand for HSS. I like Westcott but they have few options for strobes. I believe they are releasing new products soon.

yup. triggers off the same system too. Just bought one and it works with my Orlit RT's.

Start out with camera model, transmitter model. They make many transmitters. Able to change power manually?

Tech Gear Talk, do you or anyone knows if the transmitter can do ATG TCM? I am sure they do not have ATG AF assist beam like the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT III.

@Pete Fox The LED light is useless for AF beyond 7 feet. You actually have this transmitter & it does do ATG TCM? Reason why I said that because ATG/Jinbei transmitters are non-TCM, & non-ATG AF assist beam. FYI: ATG/Godox enabled some transmitters with TCM on ATG, Bolt, Godox, Flashpoint & Neewer. Lucky my ATG Gold X2T has TCM & compatible with ATG/Canon/Bolt/Sony/Orlit/ Rollei/Nissin/Profoto/Westscott

Just rebranded with slightly differing firmware.....but given the uptake by Westcott, there is much more info available on the FJ system and better after sales support !

Your thoughts on the Godox AD300...?

Even the 500ws doesn't have the power. The reason they are pushing to 400ws was because ATG wants buyers to buy and selling it to photographers that want light & little power. Many times we used a TTL 1,000ws still doesn't have the power enough because going thru softbox Since we are talking & video on 400ws TTL monolight: 1. Do you know much lost light lost from 2 feet respect to 1 feet (if this a 100%)? 2. Do you know how much light is lost shooting with a softbox or reflective umbrella? I will give you a hint, you will loose 2 to 5 F-Stops using a softbox and diffusser. So 400ws, now become a weak candle light. If you think I am wrong, what is 1 stop less from 400? Something many companies & photographers refused /or failed to tell you.

You have the most beautiful teeth and lips I've ever seen on a human being. It's fun to watch you speak. SOOOOOO handsome. wYour wife is quite lucky. Quite lucky. Now on to my comments on the video. YOu did a great job at covering all the bases! I purchased 4 of them and also the FJXR and the FJ80. I am So pleased with Every aspect of it.

Westscott like Rollie don't make this & as well as the transmitter. ATG makes them for anyone that buy in bulk volumes. The pros preferred the ATG due to RT for Canon, RT for Sony, RT for Nikon with ATG TCM also on Hasselblad/Fuji. 1. ATG 2. ATG/Jinbei 3. ATG/Orlit 4. ATG/Rollei 5. ATG/Westcott And you thought Rollei makes their own equipment. This is a well known Germany company. Even Profoto & Interfit don't make them, guess who makes for them? Hasselblad lenses are no longer German but ATG/Fuji.

@@TechGearTalk ATG will soon have 600ws pro model. ATG 2.4GHz TTL/M 1,000ws to 2,000ws are way to high for many photographer. Only the ATG Gold will be compatible with Hasselblad & Fuji aps medium mirrorless systems. But one transmitter is all you need to run all those lights. ATG's HD-2 is in the final tests & won't be available until 2022. ATG & staff are working for a stable block when using it on Sony. ATG Gold transmitters are user battery replaceable. This transmitter has drawbacks: A. ATG AF assist beam disabled B. ATG TCM is disabled C. Special battery required D. Block (HD-2 mounted) will break when mounted on Sony Again, Westcott & Rollei will not admit that this not new or do they make it but really an ATG which has been out over 2 years ago. Tech Gear Talk, five lights can use the same battery. Well done on this video.
